The illustrations were gorgeous but I was hoping for something more of the ever popular tumblr-style of poetry.

Words cannot express how much I *love* and connect with this collection. Confessional, raw, and deeply reflective, Nocturnal calls to the parts of ourselves abandoned to the wilds of the world; it's like a song of hope and longing that speaks to all the things we can't speak out loud.

I have come to realise over the years that contemporary poetry might not be for me, so take my review with a grain of salt. From a semi-objective point of view, I can see how this collection could be a gem to fans of the genre, even though it did little for me personally.

Nocturnal is a stunningly formatted and designed collection of poems centering around a theme of darkness, the starry skies and the silent thoughts that roam sleepless nights, accompanied by gray-scale illustrations. I'm a sucker for the combination of multiple artforms, which was what drew me to this collection in the first place. In that regard, it didn't disappoint. Although the poems themselves didn't do much for me personally, they work synnergetically with the illustrations to create something stronger than the sum of their parts.
I'd recommend this collection to fans of poetry in the style of Rupi Kaur or Atticus.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC. This did not affect my rating. 3.5 rounded up to 4

As we all know, poetry is absolutely subjective and poems I have loved at one point in my life, do not connect with me at another point in my life. I admit that when I first began reading these poems, the connection was missing. I knew that meant it was not the time in my life for these poems. I was overwhelmed with work, family, and so much more, so my mind didn't care for these poems. I picked this up again and absolutely enjoyed it.

Yes, many of the themes are themes you will find in other poems, but paring the poems in the artwork, just added a layer. I recommend picking it up from a library if possible to see if it is for you. This is one I added to my wishlist in order to add the physical copy to my collection.

This poetry collection is soft and inviting. The themes of nature, landscapes, sunsets and night time reflect the intimacy, loneliness and desire that ebbs and flows in relationships.

I will be looking out for more from this poet.

Unpopular Opinion Time 🐸☕️

Actual rating: 2.5 ⭐️

Some lovely poems. Some (the majority, tbh) very flat and cliché ones.

It was a lovely experience to read mainly because of the illustrations.
The poems were somewhat lackluster, in my opinion. They did not impress me, unfortunately.
All in all, this was ‘aight.

Favourite Poem

Hoping for a miracle.

i am falling,
but my voice doesn’t shake
on the way down.

Words fall flat. Doesn't incite any genuine lingering emotion. Sounds like a plea. Zero creativity. No rhythm, no flow, might as well have been random words stacked together. It's more like somebody's ill construed love letter that only the person for whom it was meant for might find interesting, if even her.

I really liked this one. Although repetitive at times, I really liked the dark tones. Definitely one that makes you think about life.

Nocturnal by Wilder poetry is a collection about self-discovery and self-healing whilst dealing with relationships, present and past. Though the collection was enjoyable, there was not really anything that striked me as original. I felt like it was a book full of cliches that could have been explored and developed a lot more than Wilder did.

What saved the collection for me was that I found the illustrations beautiful. I am someone who really enjoys a combination of poetry and illustration and the collection is packed with this. The contrast of the light and dark pages also adds to the mood of the collection and adds a little more depth to the poetry overall.

I really enjoyed this collection! It made me feel happy. This book is themed heavily around nature and if full of beautiful art, often with imagery of the night sky. It was an absolute delight.

poetry is subjective and either hits you if you are in the right mood or does not touch you at all.

I've always had difficulty connecting with poetry but there was something about some of the poems in this collection that spoke to me. Some didn't strike me as hard the others but the ones that did definitely made an impression. I do think it needed something more to stand out as modern poetry nowadays follow the same formula this collection followed.

A quick and light read that I enjoyed. I love the entire aesthetics of this book, from the colours (shades of white, grey and black whether it's the cover, pages or text) and illustrations to the theme (galaxies, nights, dreams, love and loss etc) and vibe (whimsical, serenity etc).

Beauty goes beyond skin deep for this book, whose content and poems were as enjoyable as its appearance, unlike modern poetry books. Definitely looking forward to checking out the author's other works.

I recieved an ARC of the book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This collection of poetry has themes aiming around self love, insecurities, love and loss all the while making it really beautiful with touch if nature and beautiful imagery.

I really resonated with the poems about insecurities because that's all I see when I look at myself. So when the self love poems came I really needed to read them because I need to start loving myself. So I kinda wish there was a little more though out the book. I'm gonna give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel like some poems was a little repetitive but still enjoyed every single one all the same. I can never get enough poetry. If anyone wants a sample of the book you should get on her Instagram because she posts poems on there everyday and the pictures are just as beautiful as the book. She is really creative with imagery.

Another perfect poetry book!

I would love to thank Wilder, Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for this gorgeous book in exchange for an honest review.

This book has quality poems and amazing pictures! If you loved "milk & honey" by Rupi Kaur, I highly recommend this book!

there is something graceful
about the way time passes by -
how it gives itself away,
never knowing whose hands
will stop to hold it before
it leaves.

They told me to run like
The Wind but I was the one creating it.

and if the world stops,
all i want is a little more forever
with you.

And many more! I totally recommend it!
