This book wasn't what I expected to be honest. A collection of poems by a psychiatrist with reoccurring themes. Not my cup of tea, but I am looking forward to re-reading it at some point in the future to see if my opinion changes.

I'm sorry but unfortunately none of the poems in this book resonated with me. I was so so excited to read this but it ending up being the opposite of what I expected from a 'zen' book. The overall tone seemed quite negative and it didn't raise my frequency the way I would have liked. I'm glad this book works for some people but it just wasn't a good fit for me.

Lot of reoccurring themes - running, tea, love, sitting, wind, he, yes, time, seasons, today to name a few. My initial thought when I began reading was “I would have liked to see the common themes collectively rather than sporadically throughout the book,” particularly if interested in a particular theme, they are easier to find. The compilation interestingly appears to be randomly put together, irrespective of themes. However, once getting into the rhythm of the author and the poetry, I realized several things, patterns, and themes, that made this book leagues more brilliant than my initial introspection. Many times, I found, the last line of one poem will lead into the next. There were several patterns I noted, making this such an intriguing and much more interesting read. Towards the end however it is evident the poems become longer as the reader delves deeper into book and the rhythm more patterns arise. Many of the poems end in some form of that which isn’t. There are others, where reading the last line of each poem almost creates a separate poem or story in and of itself.

I think this was an exercise fo the author to empty their brain the healing came from writing their their emotion and feelings down. For the astute reader, there is much to be discovered “between the lines” in reflection of the authors own thoughts and perspectives. I found the poetry to be more thought provoking and insightful, thinking from teh authors perspective in the context of the writing and themes what issues they were/are working through healing in their own life. There are certainly several themes that will be relevant to the reader and impactful to thinking upon them in teh dynamics of your own personal scenario. The potty certainly resonates. For me, I was expecting it would be more meditative emptying of thoughts from teh brain, quiet the mind. While not what i was expecting I did enjoy the book for what it is and while not what expected, I cannot say it failed to live up to expectations, but rather, I had to change my mindset and expectation of what the book was delivering. In context, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, its themes and relevancy to common adversity and the work as a through provoking approach to self reflection and healing.

A fascinating collection of short poems by a psychiatrist. I like to use poetry for writing prompts, so I was curious what this book had to offer. the poet has a good sense of the spare but artistic use of language in poetry. the poems are not very long, but they still managed to evoke a memory, and image, or a sense. Autumn seems to be an inspiration. I think this book might be fun for me to explore as the basis for stretching my own creativity.
