Quirk Books sent me a digital copy of this oldie but goodie. I think this must be a new edition but couldn't tell. I missed this one entirely and am tickled that they have my taste in books pretty much pinned down. After reading this, I'm only like 70% sure that I'm not living in a horror movie. :)

It's so, so funny. I want to buy a hard copy to have it on my shelf. I didn't realize that the author also wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which explains how he knows so much about the subject of horror movies.

What are the ten ways to determine if your house is haunted? (Do your faucets bleed? Does the house tell you to "get out"? Are you strangely compelled to murder your entire family with an ax every time you arrive home? If the answer is "yes" to all of these, chances are good your house is haunted)

I have always been bothered by the silly girl who hits the killer once, then flails off screaming. I’d bash him into unconsciousness, then tie him up! ( I know how to foil a vampire,werewolf and zombie.) This book is a survival manual with references to horror movies you are familiar with.
It is totally enjoyable and you will love reliving scenes of your favorite movies. I have received a free copy of this book and am writing my review voluntarily.

I had read the first version back in 2013 and adored the pictures. It was nice to see an updated version and all the added stuff. The humor made this even better. Thanks again!

Quirk books is gearing up to release a shiny new edition of this clever and humorous study of the horror movie genre.
Written with Grahame-Smith's usual tongue-in-check flair it's an easy to digest info guide with short, sharp chapters and break outs that break down the conventions of a host of horror sub genres, along with settings, archetypical characters, motivations and cliché plot points.
A fun and gentle introduction to the genre that will have you in stiches (hopefully just of the laughing kind if you heed it's advice).

I own the original 2007 edition of this book, so of course I had to compare them, page by page. There are definitely improved and updated bits of this book, but not really significantly enough to justify buying a new copy. That being said, it is worth buying for the humor of it all and anyone who loves horror would get a kick out of it, especially if they missed the first iteration.

An insightful and hilarious guide to surviving a horror movie. Cleverly written, this book pokes fun and sheds light on all of the situations in which you could die in a horror movie. Wes Craven writes the introduction!

As a lifelong horror movie fan, I absolutely loved this book! There are tons of references to horror moves and at the back of the book is a must watch list of movies. The artwork included was well done and I would highly recommend this book to horror movie fans.

Does someone "know what you did last summer" ?  Are you a babysitter and the creepy phone call is coming from inside the house? Is a slasher dude wearing a hockey mask and chasing you through a summer camp? Chances are, you might be in a horror movie. This revamp of the 2007 book How to Survive a Horror Movie by Seth Grahame-Smith is updated to include survival tips for the more recent horror movie survivor.  

How to Survive a Horror Movie is laugh out loud funny  and super entertaining to read with a group of friends, especially if you've just buried a hobo you accidentally hit with a car and are starting to get weird threatening text messages from. The book goes through step-by-step instructions on how to determine what type of horror film you're trapped in, and to determine if perhaps you're confused and are merely in a thriller. The illustrations in the book are campy fun, and intentionally so.  If you're concerned about a killer doll, car that is trying to murder you, or are pretty convinced the house is trying to eat you, How to Survive a Horror Movie is the book for you.  It's also a fantastic book if you're just trying to find a laugh when going back into the school year. Make sure you don't miss the foreword by Wes Craven.
