This is the tale of a Hollywood marriage that goes wrong in a big way. The story is written almost as a TMZ exclusive look into the lives of a power couple and the divorce process. Now I enjoy a bit of celebrity gossip and will be the first to admit I look at the magazines in the checkout lines.

I really wanted to enjoy this one but I just didn't. It was just a train wreck for me. I did not enjoy the writing style and I know this deals with Hollywood but oh my was it over the top. I just did not care about any of the characters at all. I found no redeeming qualities in Agnes, Trevor or anyone else. The characters were so superficial and I just couldn't stand to read about them any more. I think this was meant to be funny or humorous but it really fell flat, almost as if it was trying to hard. I wish I had more wonderful reasons you should run out and get this book, but I don't.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Not my cup of tea--stopped at 15%. Other readers may really like it.
For me, the sentences were choppy--like being struck with words. The scenes started and stopped abruptly so that I found myself going back and rereading, thinking I had missed something. When the talk of sex and sex toys started, I'd had enough. I already disliked all the characters for their meanness and pettiness, so it wasn't hard to walk away.

LOVED THIS! Hilariously funny and often extremely frustrating but not in a bad way. So many feelings and emotions reading this book. The only thing that could have made it any better was a beach and a margarita. Must read!

I wanted to like this book, but it just didn't work for me. The premise seemed interesting, but the story did not follow through. It was very choppy and disconnected and sometimes I didn't know what was going on.

This is Been There, Married That written by Gigi Lavangie. This is my first book by Ms Lavangie. There was so much going on and an abundance of sarcasm that made it pretty difficult for me to grasp and retain the story. It feels like it was pulled right from one of those “housewives” reality shows. Lots of cattiness and back stabbing and just bad behavior. When Trevor decides to divorce Agnes he also quickly pulls the house and everything from under her feet. She will have to fight to make this work. Can Agnes save herself and Pep without losing her soul? This book is an in-depth look at the lives of the rich and famous behind the curtain. It’s also a sad testament of the definition of “fair weather” friends.

I requested this book through Netgalley because I thought it would be a light, funny read about people in Hollywood. However, it was nothing of the sort. The stream of consciousness writing makes it very hard to read. I also felt like I missed a chapter because the author rattles off names and doesn’t explain who the characters are. Lastly, I found some of the language and labeling/description of certain types of people offensive.

I rarely give up on a book, but I stopped at 22% and chose not to continue.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this free eARC.

Hysterical! When Agnes' Hollywood diva of a husband decides he isn't into their marriage any longer, she, too, decides to be done with the Hollywood scene. The high road she takes will have you cracking up and just wait until Fin, Agnes' ex-con sister arrives on the scene. Five stars.

Thank you to #St Martin’s Press and #Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC. This is a funny book about a divorce. But not just a plain old regular divorce, this is divorce, Hollywood style!!! It’s so absurd, it’s funny!!!

At first glance, Gigi Levangie’s ‘Been There, Married That’ has all the hallmarks of a zany, entertaining examination of a Hollywood marriage gone sour. Unfortunately, in practice, the novel is a lot more meandering and over-the-top with superficial characters.

When Agnes Murphy Nash discovers that her husband, Trevor, has changed the locks, she realizes that her “perfect” marriage is quickly deteriorating. Multiple misadventures then ensure as her gaslighting husband tries to “win” the divorce. Thus, the novel is more of an exploration of Agnes and all of the crazy misfortunes that befall upon her on her way to divorce.

‘Been There, Married That’ tries desperately to be funny, but mostly isn’t. (And in some cases, I’d argue that the “humor” comes a little short of being politically correct; there were moments that I felt uncomfortable reading because of this.) The plot is choppy and jumps around nonsensically, making it quite difficult to follow. I also didn’t feel like there was enough exposition on any of the (numerous) characters in the book. So I didn’t have any sort of feelings or connections to any of them. I had to put it down multiple times and give myself a pep talk to finish.

In the end, the ideas are there, but the execution isn’t. Thank you, NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was fluffy and light. I felt like there were too many characters at the beginning who were introduced briefly and it was hard to track who was who. It was hard for me to get into at the beginning. As the story progressed and there was more focus on the core main characters it got more engaging.

I’m not a Real Housewives watcher but if anyone is they will love this book. For me it was just OK.

A pretty humorous take on the Hollywood lifestyles of the rich and famous dumped wife. Agnes gets notice of her divorce from ultra famous, powerful, and narcissistic husband by being locked out of her home while away for the evening. Thus begins the woman scorned, fighting to navigate the divorce, keep her child, and sanity. None of the characters are super likable, but the humor woven in and out keeps it from being a train wreck divorce plot. If you like to poke fun at the craziness of the Hollywood crowd, you will find some laugh out loud moments and enjoy the book overall. Probably not the best I've read with this kind of plot, but a fun enough ride for 3.5 stars.

This book started out quite difficult to read, but as the divorce progressed it got funnier and snarkier. Some of the writing was hard to follow at times, with scene transitions missing (to me at least). But as i got more comfortable with the writing style, the more I liked it. I wondered if any of the characters were based on real people, but this book definitely made me scared to ever live in LA.

This book is so convoluted that o can’t figure out the storyline. It is too busy, with too much side talk and I have no idea what’s happening.

I was only able to read the first few pages of this book, before I decided it would be a waste of my time. I didn’t like the style of writing at all, so I gave up.
Thanks NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the advanced copy.

This is my Fifth Levangie excursion in literature. It’s brash as usual, it’s full of Hollywood insider tidbits, each more amazing than the last. It has it’s cliques and pitfalls. It exhausting I don’t know how people sleep, with trying to keep up with the latest and greatest trends. I have always liked the rhythm of her dialog and this did not disappoint.Sadly or happily I loved her exciting of a sister more than Agnes our “star”. But then my bread and butter is not tied up with a narcissist with an egotist eye for detail. It is Fin who not only levels the ground for her sister ,it is Fin who reveals this circus for the chaos life it has become. The author has always used a bit of this altered reality and pushed it through a kaleidoscope of characters and systems all for the sale. It was fun .

I am so sad, because this book is exactly what I love to read!!! LOVE the cover, love the premise, but the book itself was no good. Such choppy dialogue and the story jumps around all over the place. To be honest, I think I would prefer to listen to this book, because I think it would be much easier to follow in an audio version.

Been There, Married That is a briskly paced tale of life in the fast lane for a Hollywood power couple. While Trevor is a big-time producer, Agnes is an author. Their daughter, Pep, is clearly having some issues, but neither parent seems to be able to see that. Trevor decides he is done with the marriage, and it becomes clear who really has the power. When I began this book, I almost quit reading it - it seemed that both Agnes and Trevor were exceedingly shallow. As it continued, I began to see the humor in this situation and how the author has skewered the mores of the rich and famous. This ended up being a very entertaining read.

This book had all the right ingredients for a fun read. Unfortunately it fell short, Too many personalities and an unlikable cast of main characters.

thank you for the advanced copy of this book for a voluntary review. I must say I did not care for the book. The author seemed to be trying too hard to be funny. The characters to me tried too hard. The plot was okay but the humor for me fell flat. The writing was good, and I read no obvious errors. If you like way over the top drama and comedy this book is for you.

I knew from the moment I opened this book that the author was trying too hard to be funny. She wasn't!! Her sarcastic wit, her attempts at poking that sarcasm around the glitter of Hollywood, completely turned me off. Not that I find Hollywood something to be enamored of, they are, after all caricatures of themselves. So, I tried getting into this book, into the scene...didn't work. I've never read this author's work before and I'm disappointed that this was my first experience. I will leave Agnes and Trevor behind, perhaps to others who will find the pair and their friends more amusing than I. By the way, don't they have something similar on reality TV....don't watch or care for those either.

My thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I'm giving the book 2 stars, for Ms. Levangie's effort.
