Cary Kelly is a trained health coach and had many years experience in medical offices. This book is based both on her personal experience and medical research. The Health Recovery Zone is written from Kelly’s perspective as both a Christian and a trained health expert. It discusses the many causes for chronic illness as well as the diet and lifestyle changes needed to heal.
As a degreed nutritionist I agreed with the substance of this book. As a Christian I also agreed with her premise that God made our bodies with the ability to heal and that, in most cases, it is the natural consequences of diet and lifestyle that causes illnesses.
This book could have used a professional editor, in my opinion. The writing style was juvenile and not professional with exclamation points and writing in all capital letters used multiple times in almost every paragraph. Here is just one of many examples from the book. “Here is the first place where we should notice answers rather than blame everything on the bad family genes or it must be God’s will that we suffer this or that disease! We can’t blame this stuff on God or the devil! The devil only has the power to deceive! Humor me and stick with me for this chapter! Collectively, we can uncover the truth that may just set us FREE!”
I would give this book a three or four star rating on the content, but the writing style was so poor that this reduced my overall rating to a two.
I received a complementary copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own.

This is a very personal recounting of the author's personal journey to health and her advocacy against unhealthy living habits. I did find by the middle of the book useful information on nutrition and eating habits . As a vegan and healthy eater I have already incorporated these habits early in life but am sure that people with unhealthy eating habits will find much to inspire them here. If your starting a health journey and do not know much about eating right for your health I highly recommend this book .

The Health Recovery Zone is a faith based (Christian) book on recovering your health. There are quotes throughout the book, mostly from the Holy Bible. Starting off with the 12 step program, author Cary Kelly shows how to take control of harmful behavior like eating the wrong things that are addictive. Overall, it is a good basic book on what is considered genuinely health to eat so that one can prevent disease, reverse disease and live in a healthy way that combats inflammation.

There are plenty of side topics that are entertaining (probably truly accurate as well) but it seems like several detours occur before the book gets down to all the details that I want to read: What Kelly is recommending to eat. Finally, we get down to the nitty gritty and she does share her macros. She also goes into detail on exercise and why it is essential to keep living. Breathing exercises, staying hydrated, and learning more about why eating healthy macros is important for reversing disease.

There are many things on nutrition that I agree with in this book. Eating clean, "one ingredient" foods is just one of the things that resonates and makes perfect sense. Our food has become way too over processed. I also agree that the nutritional pyramid from the USA from way back when of eating way too many servings of grains is wrong for our bodies. The last part of the book goes into different sections that I find interesting, but do not necessarily agree on. She discusses toxic chemicals, vaccines, cleaning supplies, and medication.

I received an ARC of The Health Recovery Zone and wish to thank Cary Kelly, NetGalley, and Christian Faith Publishing for the chance to read this book. As always, my opinions are my own.
