Thank you NetGalley and Encantos Media Studios for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

My 3.5 yr old and I adored this book! When I am shopping for children's books, I want a pleasant read-aloud, inspiring illustrations, teachable aspects like colors or numbers or hidden items, etc. This book checked off all my boxes and is absolutely something I would buy for myself or as a gift. It depicts Mexican Day of the Dead art and tradition in a silly, beautiful way.

The illustrations are stunning! It's predominantly black and white with each page featuring one eye popping color. Each set of pages has an analog clock with a rhyme and large number for the hour that is a wonderful teaching tool both for my pre-readers learning numbers and colors, and later learning to tell time. We read this digitally, but the description states that the physical book has a moveable clock which very, very cool!

The characters include both animal and human "Skeletitos" which sparked fun conversation with my toddler as we looked at the bones, shapes, and fun faces. The book is full of "movement" that we talked about, dancing together and apart, sleeping, etc. My son immediately asked to read it again, and I liked enough that I wanted to! I'm always appreciative of children's books that are quality and beautiful enough that I, as the adult reader, enjoy it too.

Skeletitos is a very cute children’s book. It goes from one o’clock to twelve o’clock and what the skeletitos are doing. At one there is one skeletito and each hour one is added. The illustrations are great.

When is a book not a book? When it is a fun interactive book, a sing along (complete with app), a telling time activity, and comes along with printable activities. Skeletitos is all this and more. Stunning black and white artwork. I can see this book being a real inspiration point for song, dance, reading, telling time and coloring. Beautiful style, playful and upbeat. It is time that you read this all in one book of Skeletitos.

This fun and silly skeleton counting book has great artwork and catchy rhymes, complete with a website, song, and downloadable activities! Great for kids who need help with numbers, telling time, or just like a little silliness. Gives great Addams family and Coco vibes. <3

This is a very cute way for young children to learn their numbers up to 12. There is a rhyme and adorable illustration for each number and (this is hard to see on a digital version) it seems that there are fold-out pages throughout the book. I'm excited to add a book like this to our shelf.

I like this book a lot! It is very eye catching with the vibrant colour popping on each page and the illustrations based on Mexican calavera art. There are fold out pages and a simple action rhyme on each page that describes what the skeletons do at different times.

Quick question: the book is called ‘Skeletitos’ and based on a Mexican traditional song, so why is the text only in English?

I noticed that there is an app related to the book and linked, downloadable activities are available. It should certainly make learning numbers to 12 and telling the time a lot more fun!

Super cute. I liked that animals were included. Good use of color for the number word and digits along with the clock. Perfect for Day of the Dead celebration.

I usually don’t read a lot of children’s books, but this one piqued my interest. I am so glad I came across it. It is a sweet little book that teaches counting/time with a Halloween and Dia de los Muertos vibe. I just loved this wonderful little book. The illustrations are amazing, and I really like how one side of the book is English and the other Spanish. Thank you to Netgalley for the providing me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

When I asked my two kids to help me review Skeletitos by Susie Jaramillo, they were excited to read a new book. My 7 year old can read by herself, but she still enjoys being read to, while my 3.5 year old will let you read to him all day every day.

Skeletitos is a short picture book aimed at children who want to learn numbers. We read on a digital copy, but the physical copy comes with a clock manipulative on the front; the combination of aural and physical stimulation is fantastic for young learners.

When we were done reading it, my daughter said, “It reminded me of Coco.” The association there is spot on, as both Skeletitos and the Disney/Pixar movie Coco pull from the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos and papel picado artwork. The illustrations are inspired by the iconic work of Mexican illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada, which is another way that this book emphasizes its ties to Mexican culture. Even the title is a nod to this culture, as “skeletitos” is a Spanglish approach to “little skeletons.” Technically, “esqueletitos” is “little skeletons” Spanish, but I can see why Jaramillo decided to change it to the Anglicized “skeletitos” given her desire to appeal to young English-speakers.

The book largely features a black and white palette, but each number is associated with its own color. Pops of that color show up on the pages and on the corresponding number on the clock.

The book is short—appropriately so for its audience—and captured both of my kids for the duration. Each number from 1-12 has at least a 2 page spread devoted to it, and there is a short quartet for each number. (The entire book uses ABCB rhyming, if you’re interested!)

My daughter said, “I liked that it was Halloween-y because there were skeletons in it.” I agree with her. This book would be a fun read-aloud for preschoolers or early elementary children as part of a Halloween or Day of the Dead unit.

There’s also an app that includes sing-a-long options (see the video below), and a website to learn more about the author. Skeletitos is the first in a series featuring the same style of artwork and characters, so if you’re kids enjoyed this book, I’d suggest checking out the others.

Recommended for: preschoolers, children who are learning to tell time

Skeletitos is an adorable counting board book featuring multiple skills at once. Telling time, on an analog clock? Yep! Counting the skeletons on each page, which matches the numeral? You betcha! Rote counting? That too! Counting up to 12? Matching numerals with the hour hand on an analog clock? Rhyming, which is important for early literacy? And cultural exposure? Bingo! Pages 5 – 10 feature foldouts, which kids love!

This book also features calavera-style art; the skeletons, which are obviously not alive, are festive, quirky, cute, and not at all scary. Many kids will probably recognize this style from the movie Coco. Other features of Mexican culture are present, such as papel picado and ofrendas. Another great feature of this Skeletitos is it also features a free, downloadable app with sing-alongs and downloadable activities!

The only thing Skeletitos is lacking is Spanish. Having bilingual books to reinforce Spanish and to expose my daughter to her Spanish ancestry is very important to me. There is a version of Skeletitos called Little Skeletons/Esqueletitos which is written bilingually, but is not as easily found as Skeletitos.

Skeletitos is an illustrated book that uses Day of the Dead-style skeletons to teach children both to tell time, and count to 12. Each hour on the clock corresponds to a different activity of the Skeletitos.

I am absolutely blown away by the illustrations in this book! I have always been interested in Day of the Dead and was so happy to come across a children's book that incorporates it. This is a super great book if you want to find a fun way to begin teaching your kids to tell time, or to count. It would also be good for anyone looking to introduce their children to the Day of the Dead celebration, and the cultural significance behind Skeletitos. I definitely enjoyed the cute rhyme scheme as well.

The inclusion of an app was also a nice touch! I thought it was awesome that you could sing along with the book, as well as do some additional activities. I wish I had had something like this when I was younger so that I could have practiced reading in Spanish and English.

Really I think this is a cool read for any age, even if just to appreciate the beautiful images!

Disclaimer I received a copy of this book via Netgalley

I once again wish creepy cute style was present in picture books when I was a kid. Using Dia de los Muertos themed illustrations to teach time on a clock face is an idea I would have never thought would be successful but it is. The concept is entertaining and memorable.

This is an adorable children’s book that uses cute skeletons and a Dis de los Muertos/Day of the Dead theme to help children learn counting from 1-12 and telling time. I loved it and recommend it for parents. Obviously I read the e-version here but I think the hard copy must be even better in person!

Skeletitos is adorable! I know I say this about just about every kids’ book I read, but I can’t help it if there are a million adorable books that kids should read out there, and I’m definitely not sorry that there is plenty of cute in my own days to go around. This one is extra cool, though, because it can be even more interactive than just reading a story and counting. There’s a free singalong app and downloadable activities on the official website.

I love how media is adapting to our digital world. It’s almost like a video game’s replay value. You can read the book. Count the numbers. Tell the time on the clock. And then you can go download an app and activities to keep the fun and learning going.

It’s not every day I go on and on about how cute skeletons are, but these Skeletitos (little skeletons) are too cute, and as the book goes on and time goes by, they participate in all sorts of fun activities. My favorite one is sleeping, but if sleep is an option, that’s usually my choice.

This one isn’t out until August, but definitely keep it on your radar and check out the website to see if there’s any early viral content to prep you for the release of the book. Purchase from your local bookstore or request from your library. It’s a really fun ride.

What a cute children's book. I LOVE the art but I don't know enough kids to tell if the little Skeletitos would scare them. It looks to be useful for counting to 12 and telling time. I do find the words a bit clunky for a children's book, but there's an app and activities to go along with it, which helps to boost up the rating a bit. I like that it is a peek into the Mexican culture, as well. I'll have a new niece or nephew soon, so I will be buying this for the little one.
