The Autoimmune Protocol Meal Prep Cookbook written by Sophie Van Tiggelen is an amazing way to help you streamline your way of making and eating this specialized diet plan. Following the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) has a list of foods that can be eaten, and foods that should be avoided. It also uses some specific ingredient to make recipes work in AIP. This cookbook not only provides a wonderful variety of recipes to use for everything from breakfast to snacks, but she also takes approximately 5 recipes and creates a series of meal plans. These meal plans are something that you can batch cook at the beginning of the week and then you are ready with 5 days of healthy AIP options with variety and a way to mix the menus up so you are not eating the same thing for every meal for days.

Meal Plans make it easy

Each meal plan contains recipes that will cover you for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. What I love, is the grid at the start of each meal plans that shows how you could map out your week. Each recipes makes about 4 servings, so she breaks those down into different meals to keep your AIP plan interesting without feeling like all your are doing is prepping and cooking. She includes shopping lists for each meal plan, and even calls out the equipment and tools that will make the prepping process easy.

Now, here is the part that I LOVE about this book. You get batch cooking directions for each plan. Now, at first this may not seems like a big deal, but she actually goes into detail about what to cook when, how to share ingredients efficiently and even how to make sure that you package all of your meals at the end. (Yep, those muffins that you baked at the beginning and are now cooling on a rack, she even reminds you to wrap those up so everything is done for the week.) You will have to see her level of hints to believe how helpful she is in making AIP a plan you and really live with.

Recipe Components

Each recipe give you specifics on prep time, cook time and the yield for the recipe. The beginning of the recipe will introduce you to why she makes the changes to the recipes that she does. For example, she explains why her Chicken Marsala uses a mixture of grape juice and liquid Coconut Aminos instead of the traditional Marsala wine. (Not only is this dish the most amazing color, but it tastes fantastic and you will feel better too!) The other part of these recipes is the ease of dishing it up into portions. There is no need for laboring over measurements, and no matter what container you have you use, it will work out perfectly. She keeps it simple and tells you to divide the dish evenly among 4 containers. Brilliant!

Recipes in the Meal Plans

I have been struggling with cooking the AIP way, so I choose a meal plan that had my name all over it - Easy-Peasy Meal Plan. The recipes include; Sweet Potato Bisque, Ginger Applesauce, Harvest Skillet, Sweet and Sour Asian Cod with Rainbow Slaw, and the Chicken Marsala I referenced above. I made all of these recipes on a Saturday I wasn't working and they came together perfectly as I following the batch cooking directions. I cannot tell you how incredible it was to 5 days worth of meals, cooked and in containers ready to be reheated with minimal fuss. I was able to take things to work and stay on AIP with no effort.

If you are living with an Autoimmune condition, and want to make sure the food that you eat is helping your overall health, this book is a must have!  The Autoimmune Protocol Meal Prep Cookbook will build your confidence with cooking, baking and preparing for the foods that will help your body. A big 5 stars for this book and everything that it helps you to accomplish for your health.

This is amazing, the shopping lists alone really make it worth reccomending, and the recipies sound very palatable.

Easy to follow and understand, with lovely pictures and flavorful dishes. It makes the AIP diet seem less restrictive and less bland.

This is a fab preparatory book for those who have an autoimmune disease or have friends/family that suffer from one. Having suffered from terrible stomach issues for 5-10 years and having been told that they the tests I have had strongly suggest I have Crohn's disease I figured I should try and do something dietary to hopefully increase the chances of remission and lessen my long-term suffering. Sophie Van Tiggelen is a popular Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) blogger and has compiled these easy-to-follow instructions into an easy and accessible recipe and meal planner book. The recipes look tasty and simple to prepare and the full-colour photographs give you an idea of what you should be aiming for. It certainly helps you to plan ahead which not is not only more economical it takes the stress out of mealtimes too.

This is an excellent resource for those of us with an autoimmune disorder but I do not agree with all the points being made. Firstly, the book almost blames sufferers themselves for having an autoimmune disease - by stating that lifestyle and diet are the causes. I know that lifestyle/diet can make a difference but they certainly aren't the cause. Secondly, there are some quite dramatic assertions made that by changing to the AIP diet the symptoms will get better. I feel that unless this has been scientifically proven then they have no right to make these bold claims. Evidence is what is needed and until then no such statements should be made. I am going to try out these recipes and hope to gain some benefit from the change but I do think that the approach should've been vastly different. Blaming those who suffer from an AI disorder is no good for anyone. Many thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds Press for an ARC.

This cookbook offers a good variety of recipes for what can be a really restrictive elimination diet. I appreciated all the different categories she included - FODMAP, low-carb, even holiday dishes!
