Avalon, Marchioness of Warwyk, has experienced a horrid first marriage, which had undermined her confidence. She certainly doesn’t want men to make decisions for her now. However, Avalon has a caring nature and she is determined to help woman who have fallen on hard times. Devan Farris, knew Avalon previously through his brother’s connection with her husband. He teasingly called her Lady Warlock. Now he is the vicar for her parish. At first their meetings are feisty but there is more to Devan than his reputation would imply. Devan is also a caring person and gradually their attraction grows. There is someone who wants to marry Devan and is willing to try anything to accomplish this outcome. This leads to a number of events. This was a very engaging read with a number of extremely likeable characters, including Avalon’s son Thane. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I admit to taking a while to warm up to Avalon because of her actions in a previous book and to Devan because of my discomfort in the clergy being a highly-sexual romantic lead. The revelation of his chastity mollified me somewhat. Avalon also redeemed herself in my eyes upon learning of her mistreatment by her husband and all her good works with regard to women in need.

I might have read this book at the wrong time because there were things that niggled at me when they wouldn't have at another time. I hated the nickname Lady Warlock and I didn't like the too-mature "voice" of the very young Marquess. I also didn't enjoy Penelope's side story. Her and Sophia's mad dash to London smacked of being TSTL for me.

Readers who've been following this series and those who don't have my qualms about religious personages getting it on would probably enjoy this book. Maybe the next one will work better for me.

An emotional story of how Lady Avalon Warwyk was forced to marry a man who she didn’t love and he didn’t love her in return. He was cruel to her and only saw his son. He lived with his mistress and the son she had to him. I won’t go into the story but I found her an amazing woman that had lots of heart and courage and was loved by so many but just didn’t know her worth. Devan Farris, the fourth son was a vicar and known as a reputed rake but things aren’t always what they seem. The book definitely held my attention. I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Devan Farris and Avalon Cavensham are not on good terms. Devan has not forgiven Avalon for jilting his best friend and has given her the sobriquet of Lady Warlock. Avalon believes the gossip in the Midnight Cryer that Devan has earned his reputation as the Naughty Vicar. I wondered how Janna MacGregor was going to craft a love story for two people who disliked each other so much.
Janna MacGregor make a great choice by setting the novel ten years after Avalon married Richard, the Duke of Warwyk. Now widowed, Avalon has moved to the family estate in Thistledown to raise her son and sister. She is loved and respected by her neighbors. Avalon has a passion—she’s devoted to helping women who want to better themselves. Gavin Farris is the guardian of Avalon’s son. He is convinced that Lady Warwyk is using funds from the estate to purchase the buildings and equipment to fund the homes she is building. He decides to send his brother Devan to spy on Avalon.
Loved reading the scenes which depicted Avalon is fighting her attraction to Devan. His presence unsettles her! Avalon ogles Devan during their first meeting and she is horrified when he tells her he has a collection of Midnight Cryers that feature his bad boy reputation!
I adored Devan. He enjoys being a vicar-he cares for his parishioners and community. He’s a handsome man, a consummate flirt and a romantic. Devan accepts the position and agrees to tutor Thane-Avalon’s son. This choice puts him in close contact with Avalon—and both of them realize that they misjudged the other.
Loved the chemistry between Avalon and Devan. Sparks flew each time they were in the same room or shared a conversation. The romance was a slow, sensuous burn and it gave the readers a chance to understand that Devan was devoted to Avalon. Both of them needed to trust each other and believe the best of each other.
Janna MacGregor’s primary and secondary characters are well developed in the Wild. Wild Rake. I enjoyed reading about the real Devan Farris-not the person depicted in the Midnight Cryer. Avalon’s story was heartbreaking, I admired her courage to put the past behind her and create a new life for her family. The descriptive writing style and the dialogue is outstanding—the witty, teasing banter between the couple is laugh out loud funny! The plot is well developed and contains several plot twists.
Wild, Wild Rake has all the feels- a heartwarming, emotional; story between an unlikely pair, great supporting characters and a sensuous, complicated romance. I loved that Lady Warlock cast her spell on Devan—it provided the perfect ending to the series!

I loved, love, loved reading Wild, Wild Rake by Janna MacGregor, book six in her Cavensham Heiresses series and am so glad these two secondary characters from previous books received their own happily ever after. Lady Avalon Warwyk was forced into a loveless marriage by her uncaring parents. Her husband was selfish and cruel to her as he loved another. The only blessing Avalon took from the union was her son. After being widowed, Avalon finally felt she could live as she wanted as well as do the work she loved; helping fallen women become businesswomen. For ten years Avalon has focused only on helping those less fortunate with never an eye to remarry; at least until Vicar Devan Farris is assigned to Thistledown. Devan is a charming vicar and known rake, sent to the village to keep tabs on Avalon and her son. This is not a placement Devan wanted as he did not care to meddle in her affairs. Avalon is strong and independent with deep-seated beliefs and will have nothing to do with a vicar with a wild reputation. Little does she know, Devan has never given his heart or body to another. Now, if he could only show Avalon who he truly is; a good true soul, looking for his soul mate; his other half.

Ms. MacGregor wrote an amusing, entertaining, and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with humorous escapades, amusing banter, strong women, sexual chemistry and endearing characters giving Avalon and Devan a chance at love, happiness, and a future together. I highly recommend Wild, Wild Rake to other readers.

the latest book in the cavensham heiresses series, wild, wild rake ties up the series pretty nicely, it might continue, but i'm not sure who else in this world is looking for a partner. anyway, this story gives lady avalon warwyk, the third cousin who jilted the previous hero for another man, her chance to find true love.

when devan farris shows up on avalon's doorstep, however, she's not really thinking about true love. she's calculating the best way to get him out of her hair. what she knows of devan is that he is the person who witnessed her greatest humiliation and who also coined the nickname lady warlock. a nickname he has teased her with for over a decade.

it turns out that both devan and avalon had some severe misconceptions about each other's character. and they are both astonished by the chemistry that sparks between them, and at how well they fit each other and agree with one another's thinking.

both devan and avalon are strong characters with an inner core of strength and utter goodness that has you rooting for them both. i really enjoyed this story.

Janna MacGregor is becoming an amazing author. Her books keep me up all night.

Loved that the vicar keeps his vows but is still an incredible sexy hero. Fun ending to the Caversham series but easily a read alone book.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin's Press for allowing me to read and review.

This historical romance left me somewhere slightly left of middle. I really liked the romance. Devan and Avalon have a good mix of witty banter and chemistry, and Devan is positively swoon-worthy. That said, there's a lot of drama for the sake of drama in this one, and I ended up skimming a lot of that. I haven't read the other books in the series, so I don't know if that is the norm for The Cavensham Heiresses series or not, but it's just not something I care for. I will say that I felt like this one worked well as a standalone. The book is well-written, and I liked the characters well enough that I would read other books by this author. In the end, I liked this couple, and I liked them together. I'm just not a fan of all that drama that doesn't really further the relationship.

Lady Avalon Warwyk has created a community that takes care of the less fortunate. She does not take money from her son's inheritance. She is respected but also plans to never marry again. She is independent and does not really answer to anyone but her son's guardian. Devan Farris is the new vicar and also the brother of Avalon's son. From the moment he has met her, she has set his soul ablaze. He teases her, he is educating her son and also helping with the people of the community. What neither one of them is prepared for, is how much everyone would love to see them together. When trouble comes, Avalon steps up and calms things down. Trust is still the biggest issue for her, yet Devan is determined to win her heart.

This is the sixth book in the series and can be read as a stand-alone. Lady Avalon was unhappy in her first marriage and saw it as a blessing her husband left her a widow with a son to raise. Now she can be independent and do what she has always wanted to, helping fallen women become businesswomen. Devan is a vicar and a rake, the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian. Avalon believe Devan is like all other men and what will happen when she breaks through his shell to see the real Devan. Fast-paced historical read. Entertaining and emotional. I liked it.

I enjoyed this book. I found this read interesting but if I'm honest my attention did sometimes wander as this slow burning story unfolded. I simply adored Devan. He was a wonderful character and . As for Avalon, I thought she was ok but some of her behaviors were very annoying to me. However, as things progressed I did warm up to her. I did like the whole "Things aren't always as the appear" angle a lot. In all I felt that this was a very good read.

This is truly a love story of two people who discovered their judgment of the other was very wrong when they got to know each other. I really enjoyed how Janna wove this story together showing how they changed their minds about each other. Avalon's journey to trust was a hard one for her given the great hurt she'd experienced at the hands of her parents and former husband. Devon also discovers that he's not just a charming wastrel but someone who can bring comfort to hurting hearts.

Lady Avalon Cravensham Warwyck was forced by her parents to marry the Marquis of Warwyck, Richard Pearce at eighteen. It was a marriage neither wanted as Richard was planning on marrying his mistress, Mary Bolen. Avalon's father won a piece of land Richard wanted and in order to get it back he had to marry Avalon. He treated her horribly and cast her out of the house after impregnating her with his heir. Then he dies after two years of marriage, setting up his best friend Gavin Faris, the Earl of Larkton to be his son's guardian & overseer of the Marcasite. Gavin sends his younger brother Devon to spy on Avalon because he thinks she's using the estate's money to feather her purse. He sends his brother to tutor her son, Thane, and get a look at her books as well as maneuvering Devon to be the Vicar of the local parish.

Devon Faris is a vicar who wanted to be a military man. His brother refused to pay for his commission fearing losing a beloved brother to war. Devon doesn't realize it but he's very good at counseling and comforting his parishioners. He soon comes to see Avalon has a huge heart for the people in the town. She set up a charity that helps woman who want to get out of selling their bodies to live. She has set up housing and businesses for these women so they can be safe and feed & raise their children. Devon is amazed at all she has accomplished with her self funded charity. As they spend time together she comes to realize he's not so much of a rake that his reputation purports. She on the other hand has a huge heart for helping others get back on their feet and a very giving heart.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Years ago, Mr. Farris witnesses one of the worst and most embarrassing nights of Avalon’s life. Even before the incident, he’d never liked her. Now, he’s been sent to keep an eye on her and her son and it seems like he holds the same disdain.
This was a pretty good story. I had some minor issues with it, but overall it was really good and my issues didn’t bother me enough to stop. I really liked both main characters and getting to know the real Devin. I really liked that the author made him pure, which never happens in romance novels. I look forward to reading more from this author. I highly recommend.

This book grabbed my attention right from the start as Avalon meets her husband's very pregnant mistress although she doesn't yet know that.

There is a most humiliating confrontation with her husband and his mistress Mary in front of his friends. One of those friends Devin, has coined the title of Lady Warlock in reference to her. This is just one of the barbs and almost assault that forces her their country estate.

The story really begins eleven years later, after Avalon's husband has died from illness. Her son Thane, Marquess of Warwyk is ten years old and should be heading to Eton soon, but she doesn't want him to go. Although Avalon handles all the day to day of the estate, Gavin Farris the Earl of Larkton is the boys guardian and custodian of his estate.

Until now Gavin has mostly stayed away, his curiosity has been aroused by an article in a gossip paper. For years Lady Warwyk has been settling young women who wish to get away from prostitution in her home village of Thistledown. Gavin wants to know where the money is coming from, convinced she is taking it from her son's inheritance.

Gavin has managed to get his brother a vicar reassigned to Thistledown. To not only spy on her but also tutor Thane to prepare him for Eton.

What ensues is a lively tale of unusual friendships, romance and the consequences of deceit and gossip.

I now have to go back and read the rest of this series.

Wild, Wild Rake has taken the spot as my absolute favorite book from Janna MacGregor!
The Cavensham Heiresses Series keeps getting better and better. Avalon and Devan are incredible together. The tension and reluctant admiration fuels a delightful romance that is rich and engaging. As you read this story, these two bleed emotion on every page. There is hurt, anger, mistrust. But there is also healing, hope, and second chances. I loved how Devan finds his own place in this story and finds his purpose in the world he has found to be a retreat and change of pace. I love how Avalon is a loving mother and strong headed woman, determined to forge her own path and fiercely protect her family and responsibilities. Put these two headstrong characters together and you have a love story that burns through the pages. This book is written with such beauty and candor. I adored the banter between Avalon and Devan. They had me laughing and cheering as I turned each page, never wanting this story to end. This beautiful book is not to be missed!

Sensual & Passionate with an Unconventional, Intriguing storyline. This is the sixth in the series and is one that will have readers clamoring for more. I was captivated by this story and these characters, that had so much heart and soul.

Lady Avalon just wanted to be loved. But when forced into a loveless and cruel marriage by her parents, with a husband that flaunted his illegitimate child and mistress in front of her. Avalon soon learns how to make her husband pay for his treatment of her, and that is by spending his money. Luckily within two years he is dead and Avalon basks in raising and loving her son. But she also helps the less fortunate women into becoming businesswomen.

When Mr. Devan Farris a charming, devilish, handsome vicar with a reputed rakish reputation and the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian is sent to spy on Avalon. He soon realizes that he has met his match with the widow Warwyk.

Their snarky, witty banter and teasing, that is hostile at times and their constant animosity was entertaining and refreshing, but was no match for their sizzling chemistry. These two are perfectly matched in their ambition, intelligence and compassion as they fight their attraction all the while losing the battle. I loved this story!

I received a advance reader copy through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Avalon jilted his friend, she became persona non grata, and Devan nicknamed her Lady Warlock.

It wasn't a choice, and the sobriquet hurt, but she never let anyone see the pain. Widowed and with a son to protect, she took on causes to help women, living a quiet life away from London.

When the Devan, the vicar with a rake's reputation, was assigned to her parish, her world was threatened. Until, the undeniable pull between them surfaced. Could she trust him with her secrets, her son, and her world?

Each had undeserved reputations, and a lot to overcome, but the passion between them was irrefutable. Letting down the walls around their hearts to find love might just work... but danger lurks in the corner and threatens everything.

An incredible tale of love, romance, and redemption!

Janna MacGregor's "Wild, Wild Rake" is a satisfying conclusion to the stories of the Cavensham heiresses, with Lady Avalon Warwyk's tale particularly poignant. Her first husband was cruel, and the opening scenes that display that unkindness in details are difficult to read. Yet Avalon manages to make the most of her life, a task made much easier after her awful husband dies. She retreats to the country with her son and finds purpose in helping women seek second chances. Her hero, Devan Farris, also is a man of character — a vicar, who is sent to spy on her by his brother. The brother wants to make sure Lady Avalon isn't wasting her son's estate; he's a guardian and he is upset to see so much money being spent on fallen women. The romantic pairing of these two is unlikely despite their intelligence, humor and worthy characters. It is Devan, after all, who penned the cruel name, Lady Warlock, for Avalon, a name her late husband used to demean her (yes, he was friends with the man she jilted, but, still; he didn't know the reason). He saw the humiliation of Avalon by her husband in front of the man's mistress and his friends. Most women would never want to see someone who witnessed such a low point, much less fall in love with him. And that's tribute to MacGregor's storytelling -- we believe the love story despite its unlikely nature. We also believe — although this was a harder sell to me — that Avalon and her husband's mistress became friends. This was a weakness in the book for me, mainly because a man as cruel as the Marquis doesn't seem the type to have a mistress who was as lovely and kind as Mary Bolen. She even saves Avalon from her husband striking her, which is perhaps why it's believable they might become friends later. What makes the book such a keeper is the sweetness of the love between Avalon and Devan; her learning that he is not a rake, just as she was no 'warlock'. The side story of her younger sister and a friend's escape to the bad side of London gives the book some extra pizzazz. Satisfying from start to finish. (I received an ARC from NetGalley. Opinions mine.)

Synopsis:
Avalon marries Richard, the Marquess of Warwyck against her wishes because her parents wanted the match. But when Richard throws her out of their London home to install his mistress and their baby there, she promises never to feel so helpless again.
Devan Farris hates ‘Lady Warlock’ for jilting his best friend. But he can never forget her face in that London drawing room - so hurt and vulnerable because of her husband. When his brother sends him to be the new vicar of Thistledown and look into the finances of late Richard’s estates, and figure out what Avalon is up to, he is met with distrust and stubborn opposition.

Review:
What I loved most about the story is the premise o the women standing up for each other! In most regency era novels, one finds the telling majorly male dominated with the women (even the strong ones) relying on the men for everything. I love how Avalon and Mary are helping women find better occupation when they fall on hard times. A very positive feminist take!!
As for the love story, I’m a happy reader when it comes to enemies to lovers trope so I was very glad to see the happen. Devan Farris is undeniably irresistible. A good man with looks, charm and wit in abundance leaves you swooning just like the age the story is set in!! There’s enough banter & wit to keep you turning the pages and enough drama to keep you hooked! I read the book in one sitting & if you love historical romance, you should definitely give it a try!!
