I was reading this book in one go.
It was so funny and so morbid, that it made my terrible week a bit better.
I've never heard about them before, but I've started to following them on Instagram as well.
I loved the story sooo much especially the slutty bitch :D and the reaper. The reaper was funny :D Basically my life

Comics with a dark and morbid humor. Quite original and funny.
There are several characters with their own strips, such as the Grim Reaper, a dog, a robot, and a witch (those are my favourites).
All the comics in the book are new, in case you follow War and Peas on instagram.

I have been following War and Peas account on Instagram for a long time. They have an unusual sense of dark humour, maybe not everyone's cup of tea, however, I can highly recommend you to give a chance to this duo. Their book was super fun to read - just as I expected!

I've never seen the webcomic, so these comics were all completely new to me. Despite the subtitle, they aren't all that raunchy. There are only a few that wouldn't be appropriate for younger readers (most teens have probably seen worse, anyway).

I enjoyed some of the recurring characters such as the slutty witch, the two Bobs, the little ghost boy, and the robot. None of the comics were laugh-out-loud funny (at least, not in my opinion), but they are amusing.

I might have to check out the online version. There's plenty to smile over here, so now I'm curious about the comic's origins.

Omg where do I even begin with this. I am sure I have seen a few of he comics as memes on various sites but was unaware of the blog that they had come from, though after reading this will be sure to check it out. Keeping that in mind, I realize with these sort of books that since it started as a blog that usually the author(s) will pick those comics that were the most upvoted or liked and most often these books are usually good because only the best comics are chosen. Even so I feel over I would like more of what these authors do.

I liked the dark humor in all of these little comics. I never felt it went too far but the sort of morbid humor in these comics are the sort of humor I like. Could see some people feeling maybe a few going to far. Personally though felt they walked that fine line between too morbid and just morbid enough to be fun and entertaining. I also liked that that there repeating characters. Just makes it more fun. Will say there were a few of the comics that fell a bit flat but think that is a given in any selection of comics . Not all of them are going to land. Most though were again morbid and overall funny. Will for sure try to check out the blog that these are from to see what else they have to offer.

My one and only complaint about this book is that felt it should have been a bit longer. Get that there is no way that they could fit every comic from a blog probably full of content but overall still felt it was a bit too short. That though it is a very minor compliant in a overall great , funny comic selection.

This quirky collection of comics will have readers young and old laughing their pants off. The characters have hilarious conversations, and the storylines are easy to follow. As the collection follows several different characters and plotlines, things move along quickly as I wanted to read more about each of the cartoon plots. The witch had to be one of my favorite characters, especially in the strip where she visits her gynecologist and they find out about her vampire-ex! I would highly recommend this book to Millenials who enjoy funny comics online, and I look forward to reading more comic strips from this artist!

Fantastic to finally read in full the viral comics my friends pass around. Hilarious.

2.5 stars

I was not familiar with the comic before I read this book so I didn't know what to expect. I did snicker a couple of times but, in general, a lot of the comics were either unfunny or trying too hard to be edgy. I was surprised that one of the authors is a woman as there seems to be a lot of misogyny in the comics. Aside from these issues I had, I am going to guess that the included comics have been presented in release order however, especially as someone who has never read any of them before, I feel as though they would have been better presented in thematic groups e.g. all of the death comics together, all of the slutty witch (yes! That is an actual character in a comic in 2020!) together etc.

On the more positive side, I did really enjoy the death comics; they had a bit of a Pratchett vibe to them.

War and Peas is an enjoyable "web to page" graphic novel. Comics range from laugh out loud goofy jokes to strange and weird satire. On many occasions I usually find myself bored with graphic novels that come from web comics, mostly for the fact that I've seen the strips online beforehand, but this collection had many I hadn't seen and I really enjoyed the laughs they gave me. Some of the more "satirical" or "weird" comics missed the mark or punch-line perhaps but over-all its a perfectly good read.

My top three favorite strips were "Pizza Surprise", "A.C.A.B", and "Beautiful Sadness".

War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers by Jonathan Kunz and Elizabeth Pich is a physical book version of War and Peas webcomic series that's still being published on authors' website. It's coming out in March 2020 in paperback form. Just as webcomic, it's in 4 panel format. It's totally not a read for everyone. I'd advise not to read it if you are under age of 18. It shows a very specific dark humour that might be a trigger for some people. Fortunately, I'm living for this kind of humour and that's why I really enjoyed this read.

I've read some of the webcomic before so I knew what to expect and it didn't fail me. Readers encounter several different characters (such as a cute little ghost, grim reaper, slutty witch etc.) and follow their shenanigens. My personal favorite was and still is grim reaper but I enjoyed others just as much. Funny, dark and absurd.

The drawing style is very simple yet charming in its own way. It lets readers focus on punchlines and enjoy the comedy aspect. I'd strongly recommend checking this out if you are fond of dark and twisted humour!

War and Peas – Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers

Being able to produce regular four-panel gag strips that are also reliably funny is an uncommon thing. The internet is filled with many different sorts of webcomics, but only the brave tackle the challenge of producing short, well made gag strips. It’s much harder than it looks.

War and Peas – Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers is a collection of cartoons from the website of the same name. Elizabeth Pich and Jonathan Kunz’s art is pretty and also minimalist; we have cute but not highly detailed depictions of the various characters, in a style that would be familiar to fans of work such as The Perry Bible Fellowship. The sweet, quirky design is innocent and simple. The humour however, isn’t.

This is a collected comic book stacked high with filthy humour and lots of subversion. One of our recurring characters is Death, who apparently has a dog and is getting a little bored with his job. The break-out character is ‘slutty witch’, a long-legged redhead with a pointy hat who apparently dresses in a revealing Halloween costume. Most of her gags involve sex and the supernatural in some way, with some human sacrifice thrown in for added spice.

We also have a horny robot who doesn’t really understand love, a dumb dog who understands people a little to well and a pair of permanently lost hikers who don’t seem to understand anything. This is quite clearly a collection of strips from a web-comic (one page is dedicated to the memory of Laika, one of the Russian space dogs. This is a lovely tribute and makes sense on a website, but here it just seems like a bit of a non-sequitur as it appears in the middle of the book).
War and Peas – Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers isn’t essential in anyway, and it’s most likely going to be the sort of book that sits in one place and is read at random. However, it’s a lot of fun and if you have a friend who has a dark sense of humour (and a big sense of fun) it would make an ideal gift. This is perfect casual reading for anyone who might find themselves in need of short and funny distractions. Ideal for putting by the phone or leaving on a bathroom shelf.

Silly, sexy and just dark enough. Rather fun.

So funny I love the kind of unique twists to the humor here first you think a jokes going one way then it goes another. So dark and funny, blunt and witty. I enjoyed the blurb about the authors at the end too. It’s always nice to see the face and story behind a book like this.

This was good fun.

The book is by the authors of War and Peas, an online comic which can be found at https://warandpeas.com/?blogsub=confirming#subscribe-blog.

The comics are similar to the online version, with short amusing cartoon strips and quirky characters.

The drawings are quite simple but are really funny if you like comic strips. I enjoyed it so much that I signed up on the website too. Definitely a good book for the coffee table.

If you familiar with the web comic War and Peas, then you know the humor here, a very dark, oddly funny four panels, with the kicker in the second and last panel. The main characters are Death, a witch, a dog, a robot and ghost. There are a few others, but those appear to be the ones used the most often.

I didn't find myself laughing out loud to any, though I did find them amusing.

It is the sort of book you would give as a joke, to people with the same dark humor as the authors.

Obviously, people who love the web comic should pick it up.

Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I do love graphic novels and I really enjoy a good “adult” read every now and then. I enjoyed this book and would say it is along similar lines to Sarah Anderson’s Adulthood is a Myth, but it fell flat in a lot of ways. Some of the humor was not my kind of humor and some of it felt really jumbled. There wasn’t a clear theme to the comics. However, I did find a few entertaining and am happy I read it.

I love these comics. I've seen them around online for a few years now and I'm very excited to see that they are being released as a print book! They're hilarious, but it is very dark humor. I will likely request that my library orders a copy for our adult department. I can't quite justify putting it in my teen collection with some of the content. This is a great quick read and if you like dark humor, I definitely recommend it.

This comic collection was super enjoyable. This was a random quick read for me so I did not know what to expect. I loved the dark humor so much and really hope these authors publish another book! In the meantime I will be bookmarking and visiting their site regularly for some more laughs.

These comics were clever but the humor fell a little flat for me personally. I think many readers, especially Roz Chast fans, would love it.

I'm a fan of this comic-strip graphic novel style and the authors did pretty well with it. Unfortunately, there are some jokes that fell a little flat for me. I finished it in one sitting and would definitely recommend it as a quick before bed read. I did like the ongoing stories of a handful of characters, especially the robot. While this wasn't a belly-laugh kind of book for me, I enjoyed it overall.

This was an ARC recommended via NetGalley.

Well, I chuckled at the one about IKEA doors, and the randy witch is at least a good idea. Fill in the gaps for me, dear reader, until you yourself have reached my arbitrary minimum word count for this review.
