This was just so bad. I mean, I know it is a YA novel, but it was incredibly juvenile. This is not a book I would recommend to anyone and I'm kind of upset that I actually read it and didn't just DNF the title.

As someone who enjoys reading Jane Austen fan fiction, I was excited by the book’s title and the statement that it was lightly inspired by Pride and Prejudice. However, The Wrong Mr. Darcy deviates from Austen’s story quite a bit, with little in common with the famous tale. So if I look at this book without the comparison, it is a story about a woman, Hera Isari, starting out in the world of sports journalism, with some strikes already against her. Besides being a woman in a man’s world, Hera’s father is in jail after committing crimes within the sports industry, so her last name is not well received in her industry of choice. However, despite all this, Hera’s offered a chance to interview a famous basketball player, Charles Butler and meet his best friend Derek Darcy. Over a period of about a week in the company of the basketball players, their families, and their fans, Hara faces multiple layers of deception from unexpected sources as well as tragic situations way beyond her control. In the midst of the chaos and elements of distrust, Hera an Derek find a way to start a relationship.
There are some aspects of the story that appealed to me, such as Hera’s approach towards other women, where she finds and befriends some people who are influenced by fame yet manage to stay relatively grounded. Her sense of loyalty is also admirable, as she does anything she can to protect those she cares about. The story winds up with multiple storylines crashing together with tragic results that were dramatic and unexpected, and overshadow the overall story a bit. Though I found the tale compelling, the end is overly complex and the comparison to Pride and Prejudice is not a realistic one.
I received an advance copy of the book from Net Galley and have written an objective review.

I really liked this book! It's a romance book that is also a Pride and Prejudice retelling -- how awesome is that? If you haven't read Pride and Prejudice, you'll be fine when you read this and if you have read Pride and Prejudice, you'll like this one a lot too!

Hara has great determination for her career. She had a serious of very unfortunate events. She cares more about the other people involved then she does about herself. There are a lot of twists and turns and really keeps your attention. The heartaches that come to her during this book are awful, but she shows what a great person she truly is.

What a nice find. This was the first book I've read from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was different from anything I've read recently and really captured my attention. It was so well written and the characters were fantastic.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
With a title that includes the name Mr. Darcy, I did not find many connections between Pride and Prejudice and this book. We have Bingley as the assistant, Darcy as a little bit of a pompous rich person but that is shed quickly. Regardless, this was a good read. It did have a bit of a mystery element to it, and suspense, and I definitely did not guess the outcome. I actually kind of felt that the one major event at the ending was a bit glossed over and not fleshed out. I did like the main characters together, Hara and Derek had good chemistry. I felt Hara’s back story with her dad in jail could have been better explained and gone into more detail. Or why her mom is so overprotective. And why her boss is so willing to throw money at a fledgling paper. I would recommend this as a quick, light read though.

This is a contemporary/romance with a sport theme put in. I have to say I really enjoyed this book. It had enough drama to keep me reading, and it had a hate to love romance going on. I have to say I did not like how a couple of things was handle in the book (if I say what the couple of things are then I would spoil some things for you, so I am going to not say them.). If you like cute chick lit hate to love romance with a lot of drama then this is the book for you. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher or author via NetGalley, booksirens, or goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely adorable, easy read! It was just a fun, summer read perfect for the beach or a girls club read.

I was granted an ARC by NetGalley for an honest review. Aside from the usual typos and the lack of formatting, I found this book to be a fun different retelling of, you guessed it, Pride and Prejudice. Despite the smaller cast, therefore the room to expand on the characters, they felt a little two dimensional. Perhaps this is coming from someone who is unfamiliar with wag culture but they were lacking in personality. There was some good steam between the protagonists which I always appreciate in romance books. Overall, I feel the story and characters needed to be fleshed out and given more depth. It hits the spot if you need it but not a modern classic.

What did I just read? Honestly, if this book had not been marketed as a Pride & Prejudice inspired story, I may have thought a little better if it? Yet, this is what the authors and marketing team decided to do and it is annoying. Have a guy come across arrogant, make sure his name is Mr. Darcy and voila- its a P&P story! Trying to put all this aside, it’s just a weird story. The writing isn’t bad, and it’s a quick read, but the whole story was just unbelievable and strange. If you want a good P&P inspired story, try “Unmarriageable”, “Ayesha at Last” or “Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors” instead.

2.5 stars
This book did not start strong. The dialogue was cheesy and the characters introductions were not well developed. The writing for just too simple for my taste. It was almost a DNF for me but I was curious enough to keep reading. It does get better the further you get into the story but the story is JUST interesting enough to keep you reading.

This book was not my favorite Rom Com! The name and cover was definitely deceiving, again hence the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover!" It was hard to finish.

The Wrong Mr. Darcy by Evelyn Lozada and Holly Lorincz is definitely not what I expected. The cover is what drew me in and I had high hopes for this book. The story started out great and then it just died. It is not a retelling of Pride and Prejudice. It was a very quick and easy read. The story was choppy and had way too many things happening all at the same time. The romance was just not there. I really found it hard to finish this book but I did. Sorry this was just not for me.

“ The Wrong Mr. Darcy” lacked cohesiveness and development of both storyline and characters. I debated many times about putting it aside but pushed myself to continue. There were just way too many random things happening in a short period of time. It was all over the place for lack of better words. It missed the mark.

A fun retelling of Pride and Prejudice. It has the major characters and some of the important plot points. I like the mystery to the story but felt that the ending was a bit rushed.

I don't enjoy romance with a lot of melodramatic plot devices - and this book had A LOT of melodrama. It started to become hard to take seriously. Hara was an interesting character; I just wish she'd been on a more authentic and less traumatic trajectory.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a book bearing 'Mr. Darcy' in the title, will be met with very high expectations...
Unfortunately these expectations were not met.
The story itself was quite readable it didnt take long to finish at all. I thought the characters were inconsistant and the plot a bit vague but enjoyable overall.
I would have enjoyed this book a lot more without the pride and prejudice reference. I think it did the book a disservice setting my expectations too high.

I only finished this book because I was in awe of how it kept getting worse and worse. It feels like the roughest of first drafts, at best. I kept getting thrown out by the constant misuse of words, e.g. "whelped" means "had puppies," not "made noise." Then I was getting thrown by sudden POV shifts in the middle of chapters without any divisions. Then there were numerous, numerous times I wanted to give the writer(s) notes, like, I would rewrite that line so this character doesn't seem ableist/homophobic/antisemitic (I'm not even kidding.)
Then there's the plot. It's a "retelling" of Pride and Prejudice, which is why I picked it up in the first place. But if you come for the queen, you best not miss. This plot veers so off into its own thing, that ends up bizarrely sad and violent at the end? It was like, did you remember this was supposed to be a romance novel?
And there are reasons it's hard to update Pride and Prejudice as a romance. Without spoiling things too much, it felt very retrograde and low key misogynistic in its approach to adapting the plot.
The whole time I was reading it, I was like how is this a book??? And then I got to the end and saw the author is a reality TV star, and that answered my question.

I am not sure that combining the plot of Pride and Prejudice with a thriller really works. I found the book readable but not great.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for this early copy!
Did not finish - I was over the moon excited to read this one but decided to not pick it up because of the reviews.
