This was a cute book! It wasn't quite what I was expecting as an interpretation of Pride and Prejudice, but it was a decently quick read and pretty easy to follow. Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!

A welcome and diverse adaptation of an Austen classic. It is adaptive without being replicative. The plot is a bit cookie-cutter, but the third act was a surprise that lent a sense of realism and believability. The backstory is less so. The writing style is simple and reads more YA than adult, although the plot is decidedly not for young readers. This style choice lends an unfinished feel. Hara, is refreshing, if naive, which does not jive with her background and overall sense of self at the same time, Derek is aloofly conventional, with little surprises. The characters had the requisite detail, but the depth was not there. Their chemistry was on the tepid side, with a little too much-telling vice showing. The concepts of unconventional family dynamics held a lot of promise, but the narrative focused on the relationship, which was more mundane. Still, I would recommend it to fans of Austen adaptations.

Apologies for the late notice, but I have decided not to review this title. While I am certain it's obvious by now, I wanted to also clear this off NetGalley, so it's not showing as open for either of us.

Unfortunately, this book was not for me which absolutely kills me as a romance reader and Pride and Prejudice fab. I felt the plot just completely dragged and was not engaged at all.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

This book was so cute!! I love a pallet cleanser like this after a heavy book or heavy fantasy! I thought the characters were super cute and I was rooting for them!!

The Wrong Mr. Darcy by Evelyn Lozada & Holly Lorincz follows a young woman, Hara Isari who aspires to be a female sportswriter and Derek Darcy, a famous Boston basketball player. Hara won a writing contest and the prize was an interview with the team. She first runs into Derek at the airport and then runs into him at the owners house where she would be staying. Between parties, interviews and games Hara builds a friendship with Derek which turns into a budding romance. Add in drama on and off the court The Wrong Mr. Darcy is the perfect read for a light fast paced romance.

I did not enjoy this book. The writing felt contrived and the characters unrealistic; had I not been reading this to review, I would have stopped after the first chapter.

This had EVERYTHING
I was floored from the start. We follow Hara, a sports reporter as she’s sent out to make a name for herself. She meets broody Derek Darcy and dislikes his attitude and arrogance from the start. After the storm of a lifetime, her walls start to crack and she begins to let him in. There’s a lot they both don’t know about one another, but Hara is about to uncover the story that could end it all and I’m not talking about her career…
I loved the romance, the Pride and Prejudice chapter starters, the spice, the banter, the DRAMA.
WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book, but unfortunately this was a DNF for me. While I use to finish all books I start, I found it would be a great disservice to the author and her time spent on this book if I forced myself to finish knowing it wouldn't be a review that would encourage readers to pick it up.

I didn't enjoy this book I am very sad to say. It was chaotic and jumped around too much. The romance was awkward, and to be honest most of this story and the dialogue felt awkward. Far too many things are happening at one time and it feels like the basic plot got lost.
I love anything P&P related, but this was in no way a retelling. Quoting P&P at the beginning of each chapter and some characters having the same/similar names, doesn't make it a retelling in any way. Derek just wasn't likable, even when we are in his thoughts he comes across as a jerk. Hara is okay, but I wasn't really invested in her character. I liked the premise, but not long after starting the book it went off the rails.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for kindly providing an advanced reader's copy. All opinions are my own.

What do you get if you mix Basketball with Jane Austen? Th eWrong Mr. Darcy. With a perfect modern retelling of Pride And Prejudice, Ms. Lozada gives us a perfect blend of romance, comedy, and serious subjects.

The expectations I had before reading The Wrong Mr. Darcy were quite simple. I expected that the story would follow a similar plot in a sports environment. I was very surprised to find that there was very few recognizable characters from P&P along with a drastically different plot. The story of Hara was interesting but it was hard to get invested when she is not Elizabeth Bennet. Derek Darcy does not share much with his namesake so it was very hard to see the retelling elements. I think this book suffers from identity crisis. It has quotes from P&P, a Darcy and a lot of assumptions but it is really a story about a reporter interviewing NBA players and visiting Boston. I would rate this book higher IF it was not a Jane Austen retelling.

2.5 stars
I love retellings of Pride and Prejudice, but this one just didn't work well for me. I think the writing style wasn't my favorite and the story didn't flow very well sometimes.

DNF. Made it halfway through and saw no end in sight. This was a big disappointment for me because I was so ready for a sweet romance story and didn't enjoy the experience at all. I suppose I was a little trigger-happy with the words "Mr. Darcy" in the title.
My bad.

I think this is one of those situations where I thought I was getting a different book. Based on the cover and the blurb provided, I assumed this would be a super cute rom-com with a Jane Austen flair. I was wrong. This was super angsty, sporty, miscommunications, just so not the book I thought I was getting. Not the authors fault as I know publishers and marketing people really set these covers and blurbs up.
I didn't hate it but I certainly didn't love it. I can settle on 3 stars.

I wasn’t a fan of Evelyn Lozada’s first novel, The Perfect Date, so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this one. Unfortunately, this was a hard one for me to get into. Many thanks for the free ARC!

This book was just okay to me. The overarching storyline was good, but I don’t think I’m the target audience - I’m not really a fan of basketball, and the speech/language structure isn’t what I’m used to so it was a bit hard to read. Other than that, I did enjoy the love story and the suspense. The characters were all great as well!

That was supposed to be a romantic comedy?! Yeah . . . that’s a big fat NO. Ugh. I had so many problems with this book I don’t even know where to start. It was dramatic, angsty, and traumatic - and none of them in a good way. Also, can we shove anymore problems into one book? Father in jail, miscarriage, harassment, major storm . . . C’mon! And the author consistently referring to the main characters as “the young reporter” and “the basketball player” instead of by their names was incredibly annoying. I know this was supposed to be some kind of take/re-telling of Pride and Prejudice, but since I’ve never read it I can’t comment on any parallels. After reading some other reviews I learned this was written by some kind of wannabe reality star and it just kind of explains everything about this book to me.

New to me author but definitely won't be last. Thoroughly enjoyed this story. Thanks Netgalley and to the publisher for letting me read this advance copy.
