The Wrong Mr. Darcy was a cute take on the classic Jane Austen stories of Mr. Darcy with some love and basketball vibes. Aspiring journalist Hara wins a contest for exclusive access to a national basketball team to interview their players. While attending one of their soirees, she overhears a conversation that uncovers a scandal. To chase the story, Hara befriends another player’s girlfriends and tries to get close to the team.

In typical romantic comedy fashion, Hara finds herself consistently thrown together with star player Derek Darcy, who she is determined to despise and suspects of involvement in the team’s scandal. While the coach and team executives hurry to cover their tracks and save their own skins, Hara is exceedingly in danger. There were some additional twists and interesting elements that elevated the storyline, including Hara’s imprisoned father who was also well-known in the sports world, that kept me turning the pages.

The Wrong Mr. Darcy was a fun, light read that wove adventure and mystery (albeit predictable) into the romance. This book was definitely a good one to break up the dark and heavy psychological thrillers I usually have on my to-be-read (tbr) pile.

I am a fan of Pride and Prejudice retellings so we excited to pick up The Wrong Mr Darcy and especially loved the diverse characters. The premise was fun and unique (loved the professional sports atmosphere). I enjoyed the quotes at the start of each chapter. It felt light on the character development--I couldn't really get into them or much of the romance.

I always enjoy books that offer different takes on Mr. Darcy. This was an enjoyable, modern day take on it. Enjoyable.

I think the reason I waited to read it was because I thought it was an Austen retelling and I had recently gotten burned by one. This one was amazing. It wasn't a strict retelling. More like Evelyn Lozada and Holly Lorincz took the personalities of Mr. Darcy, Bingsley and Elizabeth Bennet and inserted them into amazingly well developed characters. Hora and Derek were so relatable and lovable from the get-go. It brought real-world problems to an age old story beautifully. A really quick read. I loved it. It captivated me.

I love all Pride and Prejudice retelling and this one is no different. Hara and Derek are the perfect love to hate relationship!!!

I will not be giving feedback on this book. I started it, and was not in the right mindset for reading it. When/if I do pick it up again, I will definitely leave a thoughtful review.

Hara Isari wants nothing more than to leave her small town and make a life as a big-time sports reporter. When she gets her chance, she jumps on it and leaves for the bigger city. While she is doing her job, she keeps running into an infuriating Derek Darcy. Fate keeps throwing them together, but will his attitude get in the way of the sparks that are flying between them?

" Hera had perfected the art of living by first impressions "

This was a really strange read .
I enjoyed it . However, I wouldn't recommend it at all .
A retelling of Pride and Prejudice, " Which is actually why I picked it up :P " .
I liked the characters, but I didn't enjoy the plot, Not the writing style .

Where do I even begin with this novel? I was hoping for a cute retelling of Pride and Prejudice, but this was just terrible. The writing is extremely choppy and the pacing was all over the place, making it difficult for readers to follow along. The MC is a confusing character, both in identity and personality; the author tried to do too much with her and nothing worked. This novel has a sports angle to it, but any sports fan (and non-fan) would be disappointed by the inaccurate representation here. I wish I could say one good thing about this novel … but I can’t. Do yourself a favour, and skip this novel.

This was a cute little book about finding love when you weren't even trying to. It seemed to start out slow, but reeled me in after a few chapters.

I am a huge fan of sport romances and the hate-to-love trope, but was let down by the way the book was written. I can overlook a lot in romance novels, but when the writing is subpar, the novel falls flat. We read romance to connect with the characters and live their lives, and when the writing lends itself to flat characters, it suffers the novel. Ultimately, it petered out into an average 3-star read for me.

I love retellings so I was drawn to this book by the title alone but it fell really flat for me. I didn't like how the main character was treated and I didn't buy into the love story.

I really wanted to like this romance novel -- the protagonist seemed likeable and I was interested in the sports setting (I've read so many hockey romances, I was ready for basketball); however, I didn't feel much chemistry between the two characters, thought the storm and all of the plot points following were a lot, and the storyline with her father frustrated me. I wanted less drama and more fun, sexy chemistry.

Oof. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review - this one was not for me. Between the writing and some of the problematic attitudes of the characters, I couldn’t finish this one.

I was SO excited for this book since it features basketball, but unfortunately the writing style is just not for me and I wasn't able to get into this book at all.

I really enjoyed this loose retelling of Pride and Prejudice set in the background of sports-basketball. Hara was a news reporter wanting to get out of her small town and jumps at an opportunity when her new boss pays for her to interview a big basketball player. But soon through the guise of the Christian Louboutins and gorgeous dresses; Hara knows there's a story that her boss is covering as she keeps being in close company with Derrick Darcy and the star of the story his best friend. There were so many instances I could see the P&P similarities with gala. This book had an unexpected turn that took me for a loop.

It is exactly how I thought it would be: empty and cliché. Not really much more I can say except, do not bother.

Unfortunately this book didn’t work for me. I love Austen retelling but this one fell flat. I didn’t care about the characters and the plot dragged. I can see how it could work for some but it was t my cup of tea

Oh this book. It was like it did not know what it wanted to be, so it decided to be everything.... and nothing. It was criminally boring, fake, and ridiculous. Big avoid from me.

Hara wants to be a big time sports reporter - leaving behind her small town and her felon father’s reputation. When she gets the opportunity of a lifetime to interview a pro basketball player, she hops on the next plane for Boston. After a run in with arrogant rookie, Derek Darcy, Hara wants nothing to do with him… but after another run in and another run in Hara starts to think this might be her chance for love (and basketball).

When I read The Perfect Date, I was kinda meh about it. However, I really enjoyed this Pride and Prejudice retelling. While I wasn’t a fan of the male lead in The Perfect Date, I really liked Derek Darcy, I also liked Hara, and I like them together. This is a fun read!

Thanks to @NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my ARC!
