Where do I even begin with this novel? I was hoping for a cute retelling of Pride and Prejudice, but this was just terrible. The writing is extremely choppy and the pacing was all over the place, making it difficult for readers to follow along. The MC is a confusing character, both in identity and personality; the author tried to do too much with her and nothing worked. This novel has a sports angle to it, but any sports fan (and non-fan) would be disappointed by the inaccurate representation here. I wish I could say one good thing about this novel … but I can’t. Do yourself a favour, and skip this novel.

This was a cute little book about finding love when you weren't even trying to. It seemed to start out slow, but reeled me in after a few chapters.

I am a huge fan of sport romances and the hate-to-love trope, but was let down by the way the book was written. I can overlook a lot in romance novels, but when the writing is subpar, the novel falls flat. We read romance to connect with the characters and live their lives, and when the writing lends itself to flat characters, it suffers the novel. Ultimately, it petered out into an average 3-star read for me.

I love retellings so I was drawn to this book by the title alone but it fell really flat for me. I didn't like how the main character was treated and I didn't buy into the love story.

I really wanted to like this romance novel -- the protagonist seemed likeable and I was interested in the sports setting (I've read so many hockey romances, I was ready for basketball); however, I didn't feel much chemistry between the two characters, thought the storm and all of the plot points following were a lot, and the storyline with her father frustrated me. I wanted less drama and more fun, sexy chemistry.

Oof. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review - this one was not for me. Between the writing and some of the problematic attitudes of the characters, I couldn’t finish this one.

I was SO excited for this book since it features basketball, but unfortunately the writing style is just not for me and I wasn't able to get into this book at all.

I really enjoyed this loose retelling of Pride and Prejudice set in the background of sports-basketball. Hara was a news reporter wanting to get out of her small town and jumps at an opportunity when her new boss pays for her to interview a big basketball player. But soon through the guise of the Christian Louboutins and gorgeous dresses; Hara knows there's a story that her boss is covering as she keeps being in close company with Derrick Darcy and the star of the story his best friend. There were so many instances I could see the P&P similarities with gala. This book had an unexpected turn that took me for a loop.

It is exactly how I thought it would be: empty and cliché. Not really much more I can say except, do not bother.

Unfortunately this book didn’t work for me. I love Austen retelling but this one fell flat. I didn’t care about the characters and the plot dragged. I can see how it could work for some but it was t my cup of tea

Oh this book. It was like it did not know what it wanted to be, so it decided to be everything.... and nothing. It was criminally boring, fake, and ridiculous. Big avoid from me.

Hara wants to be a big time sports reporter - leaving behind her small town and her felon father’s reputation. When she gets the opportunity of a lifetime to interview a pro basketball player, she hops on the next plane for Boston. After a run in with arrogant rookie, Derek Darcy, Hara wants nothing to do with him… but after another run in and another run in Hara starts to think this might be her chance for love (and basketball).

When I read The Perfect Date, I was kinda meh about it. However, I really enjoyed this Pride and Prejudice retelling. While I wasn’t a fan of the male lead in The Perfect Date, I really liked Derek Darcy, I also liked Hara, and I like them together. This is a fun read!

Thanks to @NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my ARC!

I was seriously so excited to read this when I saw Mr. Darcy. Hello and yes please! However, I was let down in more than one area on this one.

The characters were so hard to like or relate to. It didn't matter which point of view I was reading I couldn't find much to enjoy about either of them. The internal monologue from each about how much they disliked the other and how pretentious they found each other was exhausting.

I liked that there was an effort for feminism and women can make their way just as much as any man can. I think there were moments of furthering that effort but I liked that it was even a theme to begin with.

Just because this didn't do it for me does not mean it isn't for someone else. I would actually recommend this if you don't mind mild romance and don't have strong feelings or expectations for retellings or tributes.

I do not enjoy my loosely based price and prejudice retellings starting off with prison visits. DNF and don't intend to read this novel any further. I was hoping this was a wonderful diverse retelling, but the first chapter left me feeling sour.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

I usually love all things rom-com so I was excited to read this especially as it was a retelling. Unfortunately, this one just didn't click with me. It had all the makings of a hit for me with the sports theme, a female in a man's world, love conquers all. To me, it was just okay. 3 stars. Thank you, NetGalley for the eARC.

I really liked The Wrong Mr Darcy. I haven’t read a sports romance in awhile and this was just perfect!

Hara was so likable with her go get em’ attitude and her willingness to work hard for the things she wanted. Her families past made things a bit difficult for her in the sports world, but she didn’t let that get her down and continued to strive for the career she chose. I always love a strong woman in the books I read! And Derek was a bit more difficult to like in the beginning, but you soon find out why that is.

Overall this was a fun read, with a few serious moments intertwined. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from Evelyn Lozada & Holly Lorincz.

Unfortunately, this one was not for me. I love a good romance, I enjoy other light romance novels and authors, however this was too saccharine and fluffy for me. I get the intent, I get the retelling concept, but it was just a miss (and a mess) in my eyes.

Hara is a hard working, determined young woman with one dream on her mind – to make it in the male dominant sports reporting world. She has always loved sports but her life was changed when her father was sentenced when she was a young girl. Her Mother has since then done all she can to try to ensure Hara finds a young, rich man but Hara wants to make a name for herself writing about sports. The two are at odds throughout the novel, as her Mother does not seem to truly understand her daughter.

She wins the chance of a lifetime – the opportunity to travel to the big city and to interview one of the top basketball rookies. She can’t even begin to fathom her own luck. The opportunity of a lifetime soon becomes rocky and things are not quite what they seem. She doesn’t fit in with this crowd, no one trusts her and worse – she may have won this opportunity through an unfair advantage. My heart was sore for her, as I know so many of us as women can relate to this situation – where you feel as though your opinion doesn’t matter because you are a woman or you have earned an opportunity unfairly because you are a woman (especially in a male dominant sector).

The one person she thought she could never trust (Derek) ends up being the one person who is truly on her side as she goes through a series of ups and downs in this novel. There are a lot of ups and downs in this novel so be prepared, some which may be difficult for readers. The book touches on abortion, attempted suicide, miscarriage, so please keep this in mind when you begin to read the novel.

This was a light novel that gave a different look at the world of basketball and a young woman’s journey to break into the world of sports reporting. The one part that I wish had a stronger focus on it was the secret world of bribery and scandals that could rock the basketball world.

You can purchase a copy of this book on Amazon.
