DNF after chapter 1. I'm so sorry. I have never DNF'd a book from NetGalley and I've never done so after one chapter of any book. I'm afraid to say this book is just NOT for me. With all due respect, I do not think the writing is very good. It's a bit choppy. The descriptions of characters baffled me (can a half black half Japanese woman even have almond shaped blue eyes?). I just did not care. I can tell I won't enjoy the writing in this book and life is too short :)

I only got about 15% into this book. If found the main character really annoying. I also had a hard time believe the set-up for her reason to go to NY. I knew I wasn't going to like the rest of the book. So, it was a pass for me.

I really enjoyed this duo's book, The Perfect Date, so was very pleased to be selected to review this ARC! Also, I'm a sucker for literally any Pride & Prejudice spin-off.

Hara Isari is a sports journalist at a small-town paper who scores an exclusive interview with Charles Butler, talented basketball player who is notoriously difficult to get an interview with. Her interest is piqued by Charles' BFF Derek Darcy, rookie player with an attitude.

This fun & light romance certainly did not disappoint! Would recommend for anyone interested in a modern P&P, as well as those who enjoy romances with celebrities.

I actually really enjoyed this book. It has is flaws but the overall story was really interesting. It kept my attention from the very beginning and was definitely a page turner. There was a ton of drama and action. It was a really easy read. I do think that it was marketed all wrong. If you are looking for a cute contemporary romance this is not it. I think I would put it more in the suspense genre. The romance fell to the background with everything else going on.

I admit when I saw this cover I was so excited to read this book. I enjoyed the writing style but this book fell short for me. I struggled to connect with the characters and for me that means I can't really get into the story. I thought the plot was interesting but so much could have been changed to make it that much more interesting. The amazing thing about books are that people all have different opinions. Just because I didn't enjoy this book doesn't mean someone else didn't love it.

This book was just okay. It's a quick read with a romantic theme, but it just isn't a fabulous plot. Hara is a small town sports writer who somehow is flying around, staying in amazing hotels covering an NBA star. The typical romantic tension and story begins between Hara and Derek the star player, but the plot falls a little flat. In addition, if you were looking for a strong link to Pride and Prejudice, then this is not the book for you. If you want a light romantic chick lit story, then pick it up, but nothing special.

I would categorize this book as romantic suspense. The only inspired by Pride and Prejudice would be Derek the basketball star having the last name Darcy so not much. I think the low ratings are because readers are expecting a cute contemporary. Trigger warnings for suicide and death. The plot is basketball heavy so might not be for everyone. There's not a likable character in the group. Hara is trying to become the sports writer she's always dreamed about but that's an uphill battle when her dad is serving a prison term for sports betting and fixing games. Derek is the forever grumpy basketball star born with a silver spoon forever standing up for his dump of a best friend and teammate. I didn't find myself cheering for anyone. Thought Hara should rethink her career entirely.

If you’re expecting this to be a Pride and Prejudice remake…..this is really going to be it. It’s more like a lightly extracted version. Mainly that the two main characters start out making assumptions and hating each other. But don’t let that deter you from reading this book. It was a good book that found a fantastic way to deal with some heavier issues. It balanced the light with dark in an excellent way and even though this book had some heavy moments like I mention, it’s still a book that I would describe as a fun and enjoyable.

I was superbly excited when I saw the title of this book, YESSSSS to Mr. Darcy even if he's the wrong one. I'm also a complete and utter sucker for an illustrated cover and this one is the cutest. Unfortunately the cute ended with the cover of the book. I really expected a light hearted romcom and instead ended up with an angsty, overly dramatic story with miscarriages, sexual harassment, and miscommunications galore. This just wasn't what I expected at all.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's press for an advanced digital copy of the book for my honest review.

I feel like there are a lot of Jane Austen inspired novels out there that are interesting, but this one was lacking for me. I liked the biracial leads, but it left me feeling lackluster about the whole thing. Thank you to the publisher & NetGalley for the advanced copy.

This book is a DNF for me, it includes cringy and sexist language, which I do not condone. Although, I am very happy about the biracial lead.

I finished this book last month and unfortunately, it was just not good. I had high hopes for it because I really like Evelyn Lozada but this book just missed the mark for me. The writing, the characters, the plot line. There were too many dramatic, over the top things happening throughout the course of the book, it was hard to suspend my disbelief.

I enjoyed this story. A young woman, Hara Isari is aa aspiring sports reporter, and wins a competition to interview a well known basketball player. She is thrilled, she believes that it will pave the way to a great career, even though she is given a list of questions to ask from which she must not diverge. She thinks she will still be able to find something to make her story special. But all is not quite as it seems

For the interview she has to fly from Oregon to Boston. Her boss provides her with glamorous clothes to wear to the cocktail party where she will meet and interview Charles Butler. When she arrives she meets another team player who fascinates her, but it is clearly not reciprocated, he is quite dismissive of her. She meets Charles and asks him the questions provided to her, and shortly afterwards overhears part of a conversation that leads her to believe there is another story to be discovered.

Next evening she goes to watch a basketball game, sitting in the press box. At a crucial moment in the game there is a power cut, caused by the terrible storm that is raging. The player who attracted her attention offers to take her to her friend’s home, which is in an area of town that is flooding. It is a difficult journey and things start to go very wrong. However after a few prickly conversations with Derek Darcy she ends up spending the night in his spare room, she didn’t want to go back to the house where she had been invited to stay, and couldn’t afford a hotel. Next day she planned to return home, but Flights are cancelled due to the storm. So she turns sleuth and tries to find out more about the conversation she had overheard

She really is in the wrong place at the wrong time, she discovers the truth about winning the competition, and the consequences are great, her life is in danger. She is rescued by Derek and so begins a romance. This is a sports romance with a difference, we see very little of the sport and much more of the unpleasant and murky underbelly of the game.

The story is well thought-out and enjoyable. Well worth reading.

Are you a #realitytv fan? Specifically a fan of VH1’s #basketballwives ?Then this is the book for you! ⁣

Thanks to @stmartinpress for my review copy of The Wrong Mr. Darcy. I’m a sucker for a good #prideandprejudice retelling. This particular one revolves around NBA basketball stars and their wives and girlfriends. ⁣

In the beginning, it was fun to figure out which character matched up to Austen’s classic, but then the plot and characters definitely departed from the well-known text of the original. It was a fun, and often over-the-top retelling, but don’t expect it to be accurate to the story you know.⁣

The Wrong Mr. Darcy was a cute read. The book is part sports romance with a dash of suspense thrown in to keep the plot moving forward. It held my attention while reading it — I wanted to know what was going to happen but was also easy to put down.

Ummm, that was... interesting?

I don't really know what I've just read, it certainly wasn't as it was described and so much drama was crammed into the second half of the book that I could barely keep up!

This is not a Pride and Prejudice rom-com...this was kind of a mess. The dialogue made me cringe, the characters aren't great, the storyline is all over the place and the pacing is way off.

This might be for you if you're into unrealsitic, overly dramatic stories, but it definetely wasn't for me.

Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's Press for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book started out as a good romance but then it took a turn into some action/suspense scenes that were not what I was expecting. I thought this would be a Pride and Prejudice re-telling which I'll read no matter how many they are. But I don't think this book knew what it was really. It started as one thing then took several turns into other genres and topics. The romance part that was left behind was good. The main character being a women of color trying to be successful in sports journalism was good. But the actual events and plot were so disjointed and quite frankly a mess. There were power outages, floods, multiple near death experiences, cover ups, illegal gambling, and a murder. it was too much to make a good story. Good start and good try, but you can pass on this one.

This was a really entertaining book, I’d highly recommend it for readers who enjoy more of an emotional romance.

All together this book wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read. The book had just enough to keep me reading. At times it seemed like there was just to much going on to really enjoy the story. This didn’t really seem to be inspired to pride and prejudice (sadly).

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
