I love the cover of this book! I don’t usually read western type books but this one was really good. I like strong female characters and Eliza was that. It had romance and a bit of a situation for Eliza to get out of. I enjoyed the story
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy

Eliza lives on a ranch with her parents and brothers. Her father indulges her want to be with him and her brothers on a trail ride but her mother is grooming her for coming out in society. A traumatic experience on a trail ride with her father leaves her adrift for a few years but when the time comes for her to step out into society the situation is complicated by a former fiancé that is persistent and threatening. Her father has hired a man to follow her everywhere and he manages to keep her protected most of the time.

I truly enjoyed this story as I have all the books in the Daughters of the Mayflower series that I have read. I recommend it to anyone who likes historical romance chock full of interesting characters, wonderful descriptions of places, well researched details of the life at the time and a plot that keeps you awake at night.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The Chisholm Trail Bride is a great book of The Mayflower Brides series. Loving each of these books the more it goes on. Growing up on a beef cattle farm I could see the cattle drive, much like we did moving cattle from one farm or pasture to another, but on a much smaller scale. It put me back to my younger days, riding on top of my favorite horse with my little dog running beside me keeping those cattle in line, and being in the fresh air. It was a great time, I could see why Eliza loved it so.

This is the story of Eliza Gentry, the granddaughter to the Alamo Bride. Eliza is the only daughter, she is 13 at the beginning of the book, and wants to be like her older brothers and ride the cattle up the Chisholm Trail, but her mother says she needs to go to New Orleans to be refined. Eliza gets to ride on the Chisholm Trail, but it is anything but the experience she is longing for. Her best friend and "partner in crime" Wyatt Creed is also along for the ride. But when things happen between Wyatt and his father, Eliza's life changes forever.

Eliza grows up and still has her wild days, but she also has the eye of bad boy Ben Barnhart. Ben is the son of the local judge, has his sites on becoming senator and then president. Ben also was on the trail ride many years ago. With the arrival of a mysterious man, John Brady, who has been hired to keep an eye on Eliza, does Ben's plans take an erratic move, and puts Eliza in danger. It is up to John to keep Eliza safe, but will his secret put her in more harm.

This was a great book about forgiveness, of the closeness of a family, and true love. I would recommend this to those who love this series, historical fiction, and life on the cattle ranch.

Thank you to Netgalley and Barbour Publishing for giving me this early review of this great book. This review is my own opinion and I have not been compensated.

Great entry in the Mayflower Daughters series. As children, Eliza and Wyatt are the best of friends. The tragic death of Wyatt’s father separates the two and they lose track of each other. Nine years later, Wyatt—now known as John Brady—is in charge of Eliza’s security detail when she is pursued by a suitor named Ben. After so many years Eliza doesn’t recognize her old friend. Love, deception, and danger abound as the story unfolds. You won’t be disappointed!

The 12th book and I think it might be the last, but who knows for sure.
I will refer to it as the last. This was a great way to end the series. I loved Eliza and Wyatt. It goes to show you what a traumatic experience can do to you as you age.
Eliza was great friends with Wyatt when they were young. But an unfortunate event caused a rift in their relationship. I can't say too much without spoiling it. I did see a few things coming but overall this was an exciting adventure for me. And I have to say the book I read just before this was a dark high fantasy and generally I don't do well with historical fiction coming down off of that type of adrenaline surges. However, this had enough to keep me pouring over the story until the end without the typical feel of slogging through a book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The twists and turns kept me guessing and I probably shut down the part of my brain that typically likes to guess and make accusations about what happens next. So, I just rolled with the punches and was delightfully entertained and surprised. Ms. Y'Barbo wove a fascinating tale. Regardless of how accurate or inaccurate it was from a historical point (and I cannot tell you in truth about the accuracy), it was a great story!

Eliza Gentry and Wyatt Creed become fast friends as children driving cattle on the Chisholm Trail, but after a horrible tragedy heir friendship is severed.

Nine years later Eliza is engaged to her family's enemy, and her father has hired detective John Brady to keep her safe while she is staying in New Orleans with her treacherous fiance, Ben. Can she escape the trap that she's fallen into?

A fast paced read filled with surprises and twists along the way, there was a lot going on in this cross country adventure. John is an admirable man, quick to action with a measured response to things. He is very responsible and takes his duty seriously, keeping the secrets that he pledged to keep.

Eliza is somewhat sheltered and impulsive, but her heart is mostly in the right place. She longs for higher education and wants to pursue more than just marriage.

I loved Eliza's cousin Justine, she is just the most adorable little girl, she has had to mature quickly and is quick-witted.

Overall, a highly enjoyable story with great characters, and a fast moving plot. I loved the humor and interaction between Eliza and Brady.

I found The Chrisholm Trail Bride to be a wonderfully refreshing book. It was a historical fiction book that had a Christian perspective, and just enough adventure and mystery to keep my interest. The only drawback, in my opinion, was that some sections were just a bit drawn out. I like when I don’t want to miss reading a single word. However, I found myself skimming through several paragraphs or skipping half of a page because it just offered a lot of filler that I didn’t have interest in. I greatly enjoyed the storyline, and the characters were quite well developed. .I will be watching for more stories from this author.

The Daughters of the Mayflower is one of, if not the best series I have read. The biggest problem I had was waiting for the next book to come out. Fans of Christian historical romance will not be disappointed with Kathleen Y'Barbo's novel. I love this authors voice. She writes such strong enjoyable characters. Ones you want as a best friend or neighbor. We meet Eliza Gentry at the young age of 12 as she is going on a life changing cattle drive with her father, brothers and their cowboys along the infamous Chisholm Trail. The next time we meet up with her is nine years later. All grown up and at a marriageable age. I would highly recommend this highly enjoyable story. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

The Chisholm Trail Bride is an easy-to-read tale of love and deception set in Texas and Louisiana in the late 1800s. The characters are engaging and believable. The plot revolves around a life-changing incident along the Chisholm Trail which is still having repercussions nine years later. A statement from Mrs. Gentry to Eliza sums it up: “…you may never know the things that happened to you to make your life what it is…and you many never know how difficult those choices were for your father.” Elements of faith are scattered throughout the narrative, and humorous moments enhance the story and lighten the mood. This is an interesting, enjoyable read, and I highly recommend it.

The Chisholm Trail Bride by Kathleen Y’Barbo

This was a delightful historical novel that included all the wonderful elements of a good read. The author crafted a well-researched account of life and adventure on the Chisholm trail. I have read her work before and always enjoy her character development and relationships. She has a talent for creating characters I care about. The pace of the book was great, moving towards a final resolution which was expected but super romantic.

Another enjoyable story in the Daughters of the Mayflower series! Western flair adds something special to this coming of age tale, that starts with a life changing cattle drive along the infamous Chisholm Trail. The drama fast forwards almost a decade later as the main characters still wrestle with the aftermath.

Adventure, romance and a cast of strong characters held my attention, making this a fast paced read for me. A battle of wills, a fight for truth and honor seemed to dominate Wyatt and Eliza's story. She seemed to not be very astute when it came to people, lacking in the area of discernment. He was truly a noble character, and it was painful to imagine what he went through. I enjoyed the side characters, Justine, and the Italian family in Galveston; they livened up the story with a bit of humor. The author's notes at the end were interesting. It was truly a romantic era in our country's history.

Fans of historical romances with some action and inspiration would probably enjoy this. It reads fine as a stand alone.

The 12th book of the Daughters of the Mayflower series, "The Chisholm Trail Bride" takes place in both Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana during the 1880s. It features an interesting cast of characters. Part One of this novel takes place in 1880. After a tragic event on the Chisholm Trail, 12-year-old Eliza is forever changed, believing her best friend Wyatt is dead. In Part Two, the story resumes nine years later in New Orleans, with Eliza finally deciding to rebuff Ben Barnhart once and for all.

Ben was a spoiled creep as a child and is even worse as an adult. Eliza and her security guard John Brady bond, and he loves astronomy as much as Wyatt did. This revelation is not surprising to the reader, of course. Would you recognize a childhood friend you had not seen in nine years, and moreover, thought dead? Wyatt is a fabulous hero.

Kathleen Y'Barbo's prose is clear and descriptive. The characters are well-drawn; little cousin Justine is sweet, funny and spunky. Wearing forks in her hair as adornments had me laughing. While Eliza Gentry is descended from characters of Y'Barbo's "The Pirate Bride" and "The Alamo Bride", this is a stand-alone book. The ending is so touching and romantic. 4+ stars. I look forward to the next installment of this wonderful series.

Thanks to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for an ARC of this enjoyable novel.

This was an amazing book that was hard to put down. It was full of action and intrigue that kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were unforgettable and well developed. Eliza was a strong independent woman that went against her parents' wishes and became engaged to a man that her father did not approve. Her father wanted her away from her fiance and had provided security to see that he stayed away. John Brady is the head of Eliza's security. He is a loyal man with a mysterious background. Eliza is pulled into a situation that puts her and her family in danger. The plot twists and secrets come unveiled. Eliza and her security guard must find a way through the dangers. Only with God's help are they able to overcome the dangers they find themselves in. This book was filled with dangers, action, and intrigue. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves historical fiction with romance, action and suspense.

Another great addition to the Daughters of the Mayflower series, this one is less of the sweet romance style and more of the action-adventure / mystery style....and I loved it! One night changes everything for the three main characters. Their pasts haunt them and continue to define how they cope with that night, and how the world sees them, until one of them decides that it will no longer hold him down. It takes the entire book to unravel the misdirects, half-truths, and outright lies...but our heroes come out on top. Beautiful history and imagery of the Chisholm Trail is included, but setting takes more of a backseat than most of the stories in this series. Can't wait to see where their descendants head next!

This was a very good read but not one of my favorites in the series but I think it’s because I’m not as interested in this time period. Still, this series as a whole, including this book, is overall one of the most enjoyable series I’ve read in the Christian historical fiction genre.

That being said, characters, storyline, lovely message - all of these were wonderful.

As always, I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

The Chisholm Trail Bride by Kathleen Y’Barbo

“The Chisholm Trail Bride” is in itself a story of love conquering corruption. The story starts in a flashback of young Eliza making the Chisholm trail with her rancher father and brothers in Texas during the 1800. Along for the ride is Wyatt, our love interest and Ben, our antagonist. On the trail, the unthinkable happens and Elizas dreams of living under the stars she loves so much is over.

The story than skips forward to when Eliza is of marrying age and has tried to run away with Ben, a judges son and altogether corrupt and nasty man. She is sent to New Orleans under the protection of John Brady, the owner of a private security firm.

“The Chisholm Trail Bride” is an interesting and intriguing novel. The plot moves fast in some points and slow in others. I looked and I was 86% through with no sign of resolution, in some parts the novel could have been cut down and the action more defined. That said, it’s an interesting story and the romance between Eliza and John Brady is honest and sweet. I rooted for them from the beginning and found their interactions to be genuine and romantic.

I also found the setting and time of the novel really interesting. I had never read a novel set in Texas at this time in history, it was fascinating. It had a real old west feel to it, but more refined. I would definitely love to read more novels from this period.

Ben makes a fantastic villain. He is genuinely very unlikable in a way that is really realistic. Brady is a great love interest, strong and sweet. Eliza however, was a little naive for me. I liked that she took control of her own destiny and wanted to be educated. However the whole plot resolved around her being duped and the fact she was able to be tricked I found a little unlike her character. That said she was a sheltered woman of the time, so it isn’t so far out of the scope of possibility.

I would love to read more of the novels from this collection and would happily pick up a book from the author again. It was an easily digestible, romantic and interesting novel!

THE CHISHOLM TRAIL BRIDE by KATHLEEN Y'BARBO is an exciting historical romance novel which takes place in Texas in the late 1800's, with plenty of suspense and quite an involved plot.
We first meet Eliza Gentry as a young girl going with her father and brothers on the Chisholm Trail. She has talked her father into letting her go along with them at such a young age, but things do not go according to plan and something happens that affects the lives of three families.
We then come across Eliza at twenty one. Red haired and headstrong, her father hires a detective agency to keep her safe.
The story is action packed.

Another good addition to the Mayflower series. Always appreciate the history the author places in the back of the book. I have to say i found it hard to believe even after a few years that the heroine wouldn't recognize the hero. Got slow in places and I would have liked to read a story situated on the Chisholm Trail, maybe the cattle drive when they were a bit older. But i would recommend this nook to people who like accurate historical depictions and a sweet story. Hope to read more Mayflower series in the near future. Thanks
