An ADORABLE little graphic novel that is absolutely needed for all the cat lovers out there. Please read this little gem!

- this review is several years late past the book's release (due to the many issues of 2020). But thanks a million to the publishers and netgalley for an early of this book.

Personally, I have 7 cats so I found Rascal's story delightful... except for the part where someone decided to mail him! <eye roll>

This was an absolutely adorable graphic novel about a girl that gets sent a cat in the mail by a friend of her mom's. The person that mailed the cat to her ends up dying so she becomes stuck with the cat. She names him Rascal. That's pretty much what the graphic novel is about. Rascal and his owner and what shenanigans that he gets into. As a cat owner, I really enjoyed this book. It very much conveys what it's like owning a cat - the good and the bad.

I was unable to read this title at the time given. I had a family situation that took me away from Netgalley and my blog. I hope this doesn’t too much effect my ability to review titles in the future. My apologies to Netgalley and the publisher.

Pleasant illustrations but the storyline and writing didn't grab me. Okay but not distinctive or "wow!"

Unfortunately, I did not find Rascal to be an enjoyable read. The graphic novel tells the story of one woman’s adventures of owning a cat, who she aptly names Rascal. As cat mom myself, I easily found myself sympathizing with the unnamed narrator’s struggles with her feline.

That being said, my dislike of the story could be because my Kindle did not include the artwork in the download and that lack of artwork caused the story to appear as if it was a novel written in verse. As such, I had a hard time differentiating between the narrator’s inner monologue and when she was speaking to Rascal, her mother, or even another character. The plot was also short and at times, hard to follow. Overall, I thought the author had a great premise. I just wish the execution had been handled better.

I loved this so much and many of the parts reminded me of my own cats, specifically my own little Rascal black cat, or void, Boo

This is an adorable graphic novel about a woman who suddenly has to look after a cat. Her mom drops off a neighbour’s cat for her to look after. Somehow, the cat has survived being trapped in a box for a week. Then, she finds out that the neighbour has died so she has to keep the cat, which she names Rascal. She has to figure out how to take care of this moody cat.

I laughed out loud many times while reading this book. Anyone who has spent time with a cat will find this so relatable. Rascal was moody and never knew what he wanted. He would bother his owner and scratch her until she figured out what he wanted. He wouldn’t play with the toys he was given, but would play with her shoes. She thought it was great when Rascal killed a mouse, but then he left it on her pillow as a gift. These were really funny anecdotes about owning a cat.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel!

Thank you IDW Publishing for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hi, Hey, How Are You?

I still can not believe we are already in July! I am a huge fall/winter person, so I am so excited to get back to those months but it seems like time is flying and not all at once. I am reading a lot each month (and I absolutely love that), most months it seems like I am not reading much at all but when I sit down to write my wrap up, I realize I have read so much more in a month than I ever thought I had. One night, I picked up the graphic novel Rascal on a whim. I love cats, have two of my own, and thought this could be a cute, interesting read before bed.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Rascal is the story of a small black cat who shows up in a woman's life without warning. He comes as a moewing package, that she is expected to care for. The graphic novel chronicles the journey of the women and the cat, becoming a family.

This was a super cute graphic novel, that I adored! If you have ever had a pet cat, a lot of what happens in this graphic novel maybe relatable to you. I saw a lot of this woman's adventures with the cat, as things that have happened in the past with myself and my cats. I highly recommend picking this graphic novel up and giving it a try if you are looking for a quick, fun, light-hearted read about everyday life with a cat.

Goodreads Rating: 5 Stars

I loved this book! If you've ever had a cat, you'll love it too. It perfectly captures the lovable assholery of a cat, little adorable monsters that they are. The artwork is simple, but very expressive, and really conveys the feline personality well- the crazy demonic moments, the angelic ball of fluff moments, the love-me-now-ok-now-stop moments- and you'll definitely feel seen! Buy this for yourself and for anyone you know who loves cats!

Cats and comics were born to go together. Deglin's story of how a kitten claimed a human as their own is sure to leave readers in stitches.

Thank you NetGalley and IDW Publishing for the opportunity to read an advance reading copy.

I somehow downloaded an only text version and yet though I miss the what I'm sure are stunning graphics, the energy of the story is still obvious in the words alone. Such a cute story that I will now definitely need to purchase a copy of the get the full picture! (pun intended)

A very cute little graphic novel with a lackluster plot and interesting artwork. I suggest the artists invest more time in character development.

Princess Fuzzypants here: This is a short story about a cat and his human. It reads like a stream of consciousness that comes to all humans owned by cats. We all know that resistance is futile. It will always be Cat- Gazillion. Human-0. In spite of that, or perhaps because of that, you humans adores us with all our demands and quirks.
As it should be.
Five purrs and two paws up.

Rascal by Jean-Luc Deglin is a graphic novel about a mysterious mewling package arriving in the mail. One busy young woman's life changes forever. Rascal lives up to his name, filling every day with wild adventures and long naps: brave expeditions into closets, fierce battles with curtains, and wrestling with slumbering giants... Sometimes she's tempted to throw him out the window. He's lucky he's cute.

Rascal is a cute book about a reluctant cat owner and the mischief that more pet owners can identify with. Rascal is a cute cat, and the illustrations are nice. The black cat is well paired with the tones used on each page. Cats are a blend of sweetness and trouble, killing machines that can endear themselves to even the most reluctant guardians and make us their caretakers, cooks, and maids. I think those of us that already have cats in their lives, and those that wish they did, will enjoy and see something of themselves in the story.

Rascal begins with a young woman who didn’t ask for a cat, but got one anyway. The book then follows the two getting to know one another and forming a bond. The majority of this book takes on a slice-of-life narrative, which I very much enjoyed-- I personally love slice-of-life because it takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary, and views the everyday as a gift. This book was fun, sweet, light, and happy, and I really, really appreciated that it wasn't a "sad pet story." I'm sometimes hesitant to pick up stories about pets because they may end up being sad, but that was not the case for this book. We need more happy pet stories in the world. The cartoon-y illustrations allowed for the author to be playful and creative, which was fun to see. The only critique I have is that I think the story would have been stronger without the first seven pages, because the way the story is told shifts after this section and I would have preferred to be thrown into the structure used in the majority of the book. But overall, I really liked this book-- I laughed out loud and as a cat-mom myself, I could really relate to the stories. I'd recommend this if you like comics, slice-of-life stories, and of course, cats.

Didn’t get the full effect as the pictures don’t show up on the kindle (really wish they would!) the narrative was funny at parts but needed a visual at others.

Well drawn and well written. If you have owned a cat or spent much time with them, you know a. Rascal. The hubs and I have had 4 cats (two currently) since we have been together. Every panel here was relatable. Sometimes I saw all of our cats in a frame. Sometimes only one. But I could definitely relate to it all. They’re cute little terrors. If you aren’t lucky enough to have a Rascal of you own but are curious? Read this. If you still want a cat knowing all of this? You’re a cat person.

An absolutely adorable series of vignettes about life with a rascal of a cat. He's annoying and a pain, but he's adorable and sometimes sweet.

I particularly liked the vignettes about him sleeping on his owner.
