I wanted to love this one and I tend to at least enjoy memoirs especially celebrity memoirs. But for some reason I could not get into to one. I found myself not liking the person who the memoir was a bout. Not a good thing for a memoir. But I do think that fans of the Miss America contest will enjoy this one. Even though the book wasn’t for me, there is a reader for the book out there.

In her memoir, Betty Maxwell shares the tale of her upbringing in the backwoods of Georgia all the way to her crowning as Miss America. I enjoyed reading her behind-the-scenes accounts of pageant life, but was a little disappointed in how immature many of her romantic relationships were. I was glad that she finally chose a good man to settle down with and represent the Miss America Organization well.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This was a wonderful book that was a lot of fun to read. Maxwell writes with such honesty and humility that it's hard to believe she is really a pageant girl, much less one that has risen to the point of being a Miss America. This book will make you proud that she represents our country.
