I received an ARC of the Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell from Netgalley.

As a fan of her works, this book is certainly in line with her signature style. Overall, I found the book intriguing. It was not one of my favorites from her by any stretch, but I wouldn’t say it was a let down either.

I experienced a hard time feeling in invested in some of the main characters (i.e. Tabitha and Connor). I wanted to root for Tabitha, but just found her to be immature. I could understand her wanting to take a chance on her first love, but at some point, the girl needed to get some self-respect. Connor, on the other hand, had few redeeming qualities. Maybe that is how he was supposed to come across, but I am more engaged in books when I feel I have a connection with a character to root for.

For me personally, I would have liked to dig deeper into the life of Nina. She was by far the most interesting and captivating character. And, the small snippets I received about her and Connor’s relationship were some of the best of the whole novel.

Overall, if you are wanting to read a thriller, this novel is one I think you would enjoy. But, I just don’t think it is up to par with other Michele Campbell releases.

The Wife Who Knew Too Much is not the first Michelle Campbell book that drew me in with the intriguing synopsis and setting. And the writing drew me in at first too - it had great character development for the first half of the book. Tabby, our scrappy waitress from the wrong side of the tracks fell in love with Connor, the grandson of the richest woman in their New Hampshire town, when they were just teenagers. Torn apart by their families and Connor's inability to live without the finer things in life, they split - until he came back to town 17 years later.

The second half of the book is where the writing fell off for me a bit. There was a lot more telling than showing as we come to find out that Connor's extremely wealthy older wife is dead, and Tabby is now pregnant with his child - and has become his new wife. While Tabby does discover some interesting tidbits as she navigates her new world, most of the answers were fairly obvious; there were also a lot of inconsistencies and holes in terms of the timeline, storytelling and police work. The dialogue became stilted and I felt that there was no communication between Tabby and Connor - and the reader.

The end of the novel was also tied up into a neat bow as we are told exactly what happened and how it happened. I would have loved the middle to be a bit more flushed out and the end to be a bit more mysterious.

Thank you to Netgalley for this preview!

I love thrillers but this one just didn't do it for me. The character development was lacking and a huge gap in the story left me wanting more details. The premise of the story held promise but I just needed more.

This book started off very well and definitely caught my interest. As the story went on though I felt that it fell flat in parts. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters. The revelations were kind of predictable and not very twisty. I did not like the resolution to Connor’s story line. Just not the book for me. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for granting early access to this book. I will be posting this review today to my Bookstagram and companion Facebook page @thatreadingrealtor.

I read this book in one day. It was a little crazy at times but I love reading Campbell’s books. You really root for Tabitha.

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy.

Thank you NetGalley for my ARC. This is the 1st book I’ve read by Michele Campbell. Wow! This was definitely a thriller and kept me guessing about what was going to happen next. So many different twists made this a quick read for me.

So Tabitha and Connor had a high school summer romance back in the day. This was unacceptable to their families and it didn't go any further, except many years later Tabitha still hasn't been able to let it go. Then one day the unthinkable happens: Connor shows up at her job! But...he's now married to a rich woman. The beginning of the book opens with a diary entry of Nina basically putting it out there that if she died unexpectedly that her husband was to blame. Then, the next morning she was found drowned. There are lots of twists and my loyalties shifted back and forth several times. Tabitha is a sweet girl, but I found myself annoyed by her poor choices and lack of situational awareness. I also figured out what was going on before the reveal, but the story was fast-paced and did keep me reading, so there's that. I didn't love this, but I didn't hate it.

If you’re looking for an engaging thriller for your summer reading, look no further! Michelle Campbell’s newest book begins in a country club setting that is perfect to set the mood for summer flings and forbidden affairs.

Connor and Tabitha first meet during their late teens and immediately have a connection. Connor is the grandson of a wealthy club member, and Tabitha is an employee at the club.
Their involvement is frowned upon by the country club management and their parents. All too suddenly, they must go their separate ways, losing touch with each other.

Years later, Tabitha is waitressing at a local bar when Connor walks in. Again, they instantly connect, but this time the stakes for their romance are much higher than a parent’s disapproval. Connor is now married to a wealthy older woman and an affair could cause him to lose everything. In spite of the risk, they enter into an affair that results in disastrous consequences for them both.

It wasn’t too difficult to figure out who could not be trusted, but there was a sneaky twist involved that put a different spin on the story. I enjoyed it and recommend to readers who love a good thriller.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read an advance copy and give my honest review.

Synopsis: Nina Levitt is one of the richest women in the world. After the death of her first husband, she inherited his fortune, met and married Connor Ford, and was living the dream. On a trip away from his wife, Connor returns to his hometown in New Hampshire and reconnects with Tabitha, a summer love from his youth. The story opens with a letter Nina writes to be opened in the event of her untimely death. Sometimes, knowing the whole truth can get you killed.

I heard about this book from so many other reviews and was so excited to get to read it! I particularly loved the chapters describing Tabitha and Connors first summer they met, it felt very genuine. I had a really hard time connecting with Connors character, but I guess that was kind of the point. In the end the twist really took me by surprise and I was super happy with the ending. I also love any book that is set in a sunny beach location and the descriptions were done beautifully.

Be sure to pick up this twisty domestic thriller when it comes out on July 18th!📚🛁

This was my first Michele Campbell book and WOW I'm blown away! This book kept me engaged the entire way through, and held so many twists and turns I never really knew what was coming next. In fact, when I finished I thought back to how the book started and I'm so impressed that Campbell was able to weave so many details into this story. I was kept guessing numerous times in this book and page after page continued to shock me. Really loved this one!

This was a fast paced novel of suspense which had me flipping the pages for the next twist. Nina’s diary drew me in and I couldn’t wait to get to the ending.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Tabitha and Connor fell in love a teenagers. You know the kind of love: the first love, they are young and passionate, it burns too deeply and ends too soon. Alas poor Tabitha never recovered. Imagine her surprise when years later, Connor comes to the diner she works at and fate wants to give them a second chance but….he is married to one of the wealthiest and highly regarded older women in society. An older woman who is so positive that she is going to be murdered by her husband that she kept a diary and in it, she foretold of her death.

But could it be that fate sorted itself out. The wife dies and Connor and Nina can be together again. Don’t want to give away any more than that.

This book is a crazy, to say the least, mysterious, twisty thriller that will keep you reading to the last page.
Would definitely recommend.

Good summer read. The first chapter sets up the situation to be solved in the book: a millionaire, Nina, is dead and a note is discovered suggesting if she's found dead, her husband Conner, is to blame. The story then follows Conner, the husband, and a Tabby, former girlfriend, turned lover and eventual wife, with eventual solving of the mystery. Tabby ends up knowing too much putting her own life at risk.

If we weren't in the middle of a pandemic, this might have been.the Beach Read of the Summer. Still it might be the Summer Read of '20. Fast paced, with twists and turns to keep your interest, Campbell has written one heck of a good story. A page-turner for sure. Great escapism in these turbulent times. Highly recommended.

This was the third book I've read by Michele Campbell, and it didn't disappoint! The book is fast-paced with lots of twists and turns, and was hard to put down. I was able to figure some things out fairly early, but there were still other curve balls I didn't anticipate. I also loved how the title worked for more than one character. Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Michele Campbell for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is the book of the Summer! 5/5 Stars! Michele Campbell has once again blown me away with her writing, unique characters, and never-ending thrill ride with the Wife Who Knew Too Much. This thriller revolves around a young woman named Tabitha and a chance encounter with her first love Connor. After their chance encounter, nothing is as it appears. There is murder and sabotage from the East Coast to Dubai. One would really like to say they know their first love, but do they really? Could Connor be the same boy Tabitha fell in love with 13 years ago? Is Tabitha the same girl Connor fell in love with? Nothing and no one are what they appear in this novel. Michele Campbell has the innate ability to create dynamic characters whose true characters are revealed in layers throughout her novels. Once you think you have everything and everyone figured out, you realize you were wrong. The Wife Who Knew Too Much did not disappoint, but I am disappointed to have to wait another year for Campbell's new novel.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.

First rate edge of your seat thriller! As a huge fan of Michelle Campbell, I was thrilled to get a copy of this book and it did not disappoint. Tabitha and Nina have both been married to the same man at different times, both faced terrible consequences from their marriages. When Tabitha reconnected with Conner after many years she knew she was still in love with him, the only problem was he is married to another woman, a very famous woman. Multi layered story with many twists and turns, just when you think you know what happened you find out you are wrong. Highly recommended. I would give 10 stars if I could.

A page-turner for sure! I was bound to enjoy this story as it compiled all my favourite themes: a woman scorned, high society wealth, and a mystery so twisty I needed a seatbelt. I must admit that I found the characters to all be terrible people, and it’s hard to immerse yourself in a story without anyone to root for, but Michele Campbell was somehow able to do it. The story reminded me a little of The Last Mrs Parrish, so if you were a fan of that one you’ll definitely enjoy this book. A fun read!

This fast-paced thriller will grab you and keep you guessing until you reach the very last page. When waitress Tabitha runs into her first love after years apart, sparks reignite, despite knowing that he is married to a wealthy woman and nothing good can come from reconnecting with her past. Alternating perspectives ratchet up the tension, usher the reader into the glamorous but dark world of the ultra-rich, and follow twists and turns that get progressively wilder as the book goes on. Fans of Mary Kubica and Shari Lapena will also enjoy this novel.

Thank you, NetGalley, for my e-ARC.

Tabitha Girard lives her life on the outside looking in. Raised by her grandparents, she works at the country club serving and cleaning up after the spoiled, rich, and entitled. That is, until she catches the eye of one of them, Connor Ford, who also happens to be her crush. They embark on a clandestine summer fling. As is the case with most whirlwind romances, this one also ends in heartbreak. Life goes on...both making bad life choices. Tabitha with Derek and Connor with Nina.

Years later, they are re-united when a expensive car pulls up to the restaurant where Tabitha works as a waitress. Emerging from within is Connor, older(but still gorgeous), obviously wealthier, but...unhappy. Caught off-guard, Tabitha is wary, but unable to resist him. They (cautiously) start spending time together, catching up and making up for lost time. But, unlike Tabitha, Connor has a lot at stake. And...he's married. It is during one of their times apart that something comes up. Suddenly, Tabitha finds herself in a precarious situation and desperately needs Connor's support.

So, she goes in search of him. And...makes a complicated situation even more so. Better for some, worse for others. Worst for Nina. Nina, herself, alluded to her own death in her diary, pointing a finger at Connor and a woman referred to as "her."

The plot shifts in time. Some chapters are written from the alternating perspectives of Tabitha and Nina, with a couple as entries from Nina's diary. The story started with her recording of July 4th, the day she died. I was hooked. I anticipated a suspenseful whodunnit. But, what I got was a mediocre mystery with a convoluted plot, extraneous characters, and a farfetched climax. This was the third book I've read by Campbell and not her best work.
