I've already read The Boyfriend Project, but wanted to come back and review the excerpt. I was first interested in this book because I thought it had the same energy as "John Tucker Must Die", and I was not disappointed! Rochon is now on my list of automatic-buy authors. Samiah is a great character - she's flawed but hopeful, funny and kind. I felt like I was listening to a story about my best friend. This was a great book, and I recommend it as a book club pick for sure!

I picked up this extended preview because I’d read some hype about “The Boyfriend Project” on Twitter and wanted to see if the book in any way lived up to the gushing tweets. Often I find that a book doesn’t live up to its hype, but in the case of this book, all of the compliments seem to be earned and then some,

The first few chapters whizz by as our heroine in placed in the humiliating position of not just being cheated on— but having her awful (but liberating) take down of her louse of a boyfriend filmed by strangers and go viral. Samiah and her new bffs (fellow exes of said louse) are relatable veterans of the modern dating scene—I found myself rooting for all three from the get go as they began to deal with the fallout of their viral breakup.

Daniel proves to be a fascinating love interest who may be a man worthy of Samiah’s affections or may be a manipulative corporate spy dirtbag. I’ll have to buy the book to find out.

With relatable characters, realistic dialog, engaging pacing, and an excellent premise, “The Boyfriend Project” is as delicious as a volcano roll (iykyk).

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this preview! I really enjoyed this sample and thought that this sounded like the perfect romcom. I was dying to learn more about Samiah and thought that the beginning of the book was engaging. I'll hopefully pick this one up soon!

Loved this preview! The characters were very likable and multi-faceted. Can’t wait to read the whole book. I also like that there’s a group, which opens up the option for spin-off books!

Chapter one had me with this book! Oh man, the author took the worst thing that could happen to a person and turned it into a fun feminist meeting between three women who were not going to let some dumb man try to ruin their day.
These three women are united one day when Taylor begins tweeting about a terrible first date she is having and Samiah and London realize that it is the exact first date that they had both gone on with Craig; down to the rental car her used to pick them up. After making a scene in the restaurant where his date is still underway the women decide to complete the rest of the night together and so begins a wonderful friendship between three strong women. I love that there was nothing but love between these ladies and that they took a moment of humiliation and turned it back on the man who tried to make them fools.

This preview gives me cute, fluffy romance vibes, and I love it. Samiah truly seems to be an interesting character, and I love the female empowerment that's been subtly but strongly woven into the narrative of this book. I can't wait to see where this goes, especially since the love interest has just been introduced, but also because Farrah Rochon's books seem to exist in the same universe, which I absolutely love.

I will ship Samiah and Daniel until the day I die. And honestly, I’ll ship them even in the afterlife. If I were to make a list of my top 10 rom-com couples (and okay, now I’m very much inspired to do that so I will be doing that soon), Samiah and Daniel would 100% be on it. From the instant they saw each other, you could tell how absolutely smitten they were. It was so adorable how much they were crushing on the other; they had the kind of connection that really takes a rom-com from good to great.⁣

Fantastic coupling and characters aside, THE BOYFRIEND PROJECT is so well done. It is charming, endearing, and so much fun. The romance is exhilarating but the book’s subplots are also engaging, interesting, and timely.⁣

Rochon expertly conveyed Samiah’s struggles as a Black woman in STEM. Samiah was so vulnerable and honest about the pressure she felt, to succeed not only for herself, but for all of the Black women coming after her. ⁣

In sum, THE BOYFRIEND PROJECT was fabulous. I think this book sets up a whole series, which I really hope is the case because I cannot wait to see what Rochon has in store for us next!

Where is the rest of this book? A Netgalley preview that the title intrigued me. In four chapters, I have laughed out loud several times, shook my head, giggled, and found myself cheering the ladies on. There is at least one bout of profanity. I found this story loads of fun.

I really enjoyed this one. Samiah is a smart and strong woman, who when she’s not busy kicking ass at work, she gives back to the community and helps encourage girls interested in STEM — you can’t help but root for her. She also highlights the way women in tech, especially herself as a Black woman, have to constantly prove themselves and be perfect to get the same opportunities at work. It was an important reminder of equity in the workplace.

I love the female friendships — when the girls realize they were dating the same man it could have easily turned catty but instead they bonded over it and it helped them each focus on becoming their best selves. The romance was slow burn with lots of up front flirting and eventually some steam, and Daniel ends up being a secret agent which adds a fun mystery element to the story.

I recommend if you want to read about strong females, friendship goals, and a hottie secret agent. I feel like this would also make a great movie!

So far I am really enjoying this book! It is off to a great start, and I am excited to keep reading it!

I like the strong female characters, and am looking forward to seeing how the three of them (London, Taylor, & Samiah) interact together after being brought together in such an unfortunate way.

I think this story is based off of an interesting idea, because of the way social media and online dating is such a big part of our society. This is a cool take, and I think it will make for a really good story!

I'm excited to keep reading (after this preview) and see what else these characters get up to!

The energy between these women is so funny and I love the way the book has been paced so far - with getting ready to go out, to the live tweeting, to the confrontation and eventual night out with the girls, and finally the aftermath of the situation once they discovered the interaction had been recorded. Samiah’s reactions and thoughts to her first day back at work post-incident crack me up!

*PREVIEW REVIEW*
I love that Net Galley allows you to preview a book before you decide if you want to go all in on it.
This book is such a 21st Century book and those reading it in the future who was not around during this time would say wtf.

Our female protagonist is getting ready for a date and her sister begin telling her about a woman who is live tweeting about how bad her date is. Until she realizes that her sister has dated this man and she was going to go interrupt his date. He apparently takes the dates to the same restaurant, orders the same meals and uses the same excuses. Samiah not only bombards the man Craig's date but she also meets not one but two of the females he has been trying to date at the same time. The 3 ladies end up having a great night out and wake up the next morning with the obvious hangover. It turns out someone has recorded their blow up at the restaurant and it went VIRAL. The 3 plan on meeting the following week to check in with one another.

Samiah felt like all the eyes were on her when she went to work. There were some comments made and she even made a joke herself. But the numbers for the video just continued to rise as the day went on. Then she literally runs into a new employee at her office who was the first person to ask her if she is okay.

I am looking forward to picking this up and continuing to see what happens!!

Work place romance? Female friendships from unlikely places? This book hit my markers, and I’m into it. Samiah is written as an extremely likable character and I felt I identified with her often. With only the beginning chapters of the this rom com I was smiling often and eager for more!

I'm not sure how I feel at the end of this preview, to be honest! I think I'll give it a go and finish it, but I'll be curious to see if the pacing improves.

The plot is well thought out and certainly intriguing, but I found that it dragged a little and felt as though it could benefit from more "show, don't tell" in terms of moving the plot forward. I enjoyed the characters and their realities with one another, those felt very clean and well developed.

Thank you NetGalley, Grand Central Publishing, and Forever for this preview!

The premise of this book sounds really exciting, and I'm excited to see where it goes. Samiah seems like a girlboss, and Daniel seems like an interesting character to explore. I love the idea of all these girls meeting because of on cheating bastard, although it does seem a tad outdated in the sense that she became YouTube viral and now everyone knows her name/face LOL. But otherwise, it seems like a fun read.

I'm not sure about this one! From what I read in the preview, I did find that I liked the female lead. I also really liked the friends she makes through a shared experience. I really enjoyed their dialogue and the female camaraderie. At the same time, I found that there was a bit too much dialogue happening, as well as too much self-reflection on the part of the female lead... I don't know. I guess the story flow felt off for me. So, I'm not sure if this is a book that I will continue reading. If I would, it would be for the female friendship piece... which troubles me because it might overshadow the romance (which should of course be the main focus in a romance book).

In either case, I'm very grateful to be able to read and review this preview!

Loved this book so much. I can't wait to read the whole thing. I have already snagged a copy of this one.

I received an advanced preview via #NetGalley, and this in no way affect my opinion.

I liked the characters immediately. It reminded me of the movie "The Other Woman" but much funnier and realistic. I love the book's premise and that is is such a unique concept! Rochon is humorous and provides a host of characters who are people of color which we don't get enough of.

I would recommend this book for a lighthearted read.

I didn't realize it was just a preview, but based on the preview, I don't feel a compelling need to seek out the full book.
