This book has five star potential based on the preview. I thought Samiah’s character was great. She is both sassy, and intelligent. I especially enjoyed when her and the other two girls left Craig at the Sushi restaurant after confronting him about his cheating. Then of course in the preview you also get introduced to Daniel who is handsome and mysterious. I can’t wait to figure more out about his character. I am going to pick up a copy of the book as soon as possible because I think I will not only enjoy this but it also has the potential to be a favourite of the year.

This one isn’t working for me and it comes down to writing style. I couldn’t even finish the sample.

First, I love the premise: Samiah finds out the guy she’s been dating is also dating 2 other women because of a viral Twitter thread where one of the women is live-tweeting her terrible first date with this guy. I was even laughing out loud in the beginning! However, the confrontation scene was very disappointing, and I really couldn’t get into it after that. I loved the idea of the three women becoming friends, though!

The characters felt flat to me and I felt disconnected from them. I really rely on a good deep POV (whether it’s written in first person or third person doesn’t matter) to get into a character’s head, and this does not have deep POV. This felt like watching a movie, where you’re just observing the characters but not experiencing their emotions. While that works for me with a movie, it doesn’t work for me when reading, so I really didn’t enjoy this.

A cheating boyfriend, a discovery that leads to sweet revenge. I must know how this story ends and who gets a happy ending.

A great preview left me adding this to my wish list for future reads!

Just reading the preview of this book is amazing. I imagine the full work is a masterpiece. Ms. Rochon tells a page-turning tale infusing it with a dash of humor and amazing characters

At first, I would like to thank Netgalley and Forever and Grand Central Publishing for allowing me to review this book. Keep in mind that my review, however, is my true opinion on this book.

"The boyfriend project" is such a fun, loving, and warm book. I loved reading it.

The characters are beautifully described and developed throughout the story! I love the descriptions of every one of them. You get to know them as the story develops, and I love the characters they become and grow to be.

I was drawn to the characters as well as the storyline. The plot is well-thought-out, and the descriptions are furthermore enjoyable. It is such a lovely story, and it is filled with humor. What a great combination!

This is a perfect read for this summer!

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

This has been sitting in my to-be-reviewed pile for a while, and I think I read the first few sentences, but for some reason didn't continue. Yesterday, though, I was in a bit of a bookslump, so I started this one, thinking it would be kind of a short story/preview to engage my mind.
And I LOVED everything about this.
The plot is really interesting, I think the modern elements of the lovestory give the book a certain kind of flair, with the twist of unexpected female friendships, no-dating policies, and all-around great characters.
I enjoyed the non-romance aspects of the storyline, and was really immersed into Samiah's work, her project and the dedication to do something extraordinary, exemplary with her life-decisions.
All around I was able to relate to her character, so I'm leaning toward purchasing the book.
Also, being a true crime and criminal fiction fan, I must admit, certain parts of the storyline were right up my alley.
Daniel is a sweetie-pie, book boyfriend material kind of hero. I got easily attached to his charming personality, and I like, that he's the younger one in the relationship. Even so, with the context of an experienced, successful woman's personality, aura, etc. could catch the attention of someone like him.

Samiah finds out she's being catfished by her three-timing boyfriend and suddenly gains two new best friends. Together, they decide to focus on investing in themselves for the next six months with no distractions. It's going great until Samiah meets her new co-worker Daniel but is he boyfriend material?

The first thing I noticed was the humor and wit throughout the writing which I really enjoyed, Samiah is hilarious. Chapter one draws you in right away with all the relationship drama which is a great way to start off the novel.

I love that this is a workplace romance, especially based around STEM because you don't see too many women going into that field. Daniel is a seemingly great love interest and seems to be genuinely sweet and really supportive. Daniel and Samiah's banter together makes me want to see more of their relationship.

I'm not sure if it was slow pacing or certain word choices but I was not as captivated as I'd hoped to be. The banter and romance between the two main characters are neough for me.

I absolutely adored this extended preview! It’s rare that we get STEM female leads (especially in romance). I am so glad this is becoming a series because I want to keep diving into the world of Samiah and her friends!

I really enjoyed this one, it's got all the trappings of a fun, romantic comedy. We have our scorned Simiah who is a STEM heroine (!) and has a new goal for herself -- one that doesn't include men. Unfortunately there just so happens to be a cute new guy at work! The pace was delightfully quick, the dialogue was snappy and fun, I cannot wait to see how these relationships will grow.

Luckily I've actually already got this one ordered so I'm hoping it doesn't take long to get here!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Forever for the chance to read this preview in exchange for an honest review.

Well this preview certainly did its job, once I finished I immediately went out and ordered the finished copy!

What a brilliant start this was! A fierce STEM heroine who seems delightfully fiesty, and a hero who we don't really know about yet but seems very caring. There is a lot of fantastic representation in this, and the story so far is interesting and well paced.

Can't wait for my copy to arrive so I can read the rest of it!

This was a great intro into The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon.

I thought it was the right mix of sweet and spicy. I enjoyed the characters, and the story moved at a perfect pace. I have purchased the complete book, and I cannot wait to read it!

I received this eARC excerpt from Forever and Grand Central Publishing through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

I really enjoyed this preview of The Boyfriend Project. The book starts with Samiah hanging out with her sister. She is a bit bummed as her boyfriend canceled dinner plans on her but is meeting up with her later. Her sister is following someone's bad date on Twitter and the details sound really familiar to Samiah. She finally realizes that her boyfriend is the one on this bad date! And there is another woman he has been seeing as well.

The two jilted women go to the restaurant and confront him. It turns into a viral moment and is videotaped for the world to see. The three women, Samiah, London, and Taylor, begin to bond over the pressure to meet someone and settle down despite their career success.

On Monday after the event, Samiah has to deal with the fall-out at work. Everyone wants to cheer her on but no one is concerned about the impact of having such a humiliating moment caught on camera. A new hire at her Austin tech firm Daniel is the first person to ask how she is doing. Maybe there will be some sparks there!

I also loved that this book is set in Austin, Texas which is not a common setting for books. I also love that there is a focus on the character's careers. Samiah also works for a tech start-up as a programmer which will be fascinating as we don't often see that perspective.

Based on this preview, I would definitely read this book! It's on my TBR now.

The Boyfriend Project is a blast! It's tightly written with clever humor and high stakes. Farrah Rochon builds a cast of uniquely complicated and engaging characters. Her settings treat the senses to the sights, smells, and tastes of Austin and the Texas Hill Country. Readers will root for Samiah from start to finish and beg Rochon for the next book.

This review is based on the "extended preview" only. I LOVE a STEM heroine and BIPOC inclusion the cast of characters. Add to that the unique plot based on the app and I am hooked. I have to add this to my TBR pile and get to reading the rest of the story immediately!
