This book was fun, engaging and hot and steamy!! I appreciated how all the women in this story were black. They showed a united strong front, and they were women that were portrayed as strong and intelligent. The male character was a strong and intelligent man who had a great job. I loved the idea of this storyline. It was well written and easy to follow. A great summer Rom Com!!

I read an extended preview of this book and it interested me enough to want to see it on my "read" shelf. I've been making a point to read more authors of color and reading books that display more representation has been so satisfying. The first thing I loved about this book is that the women who were wronged out the blame where it was due, on lying ass Craig. There wasn't a "cat fight", they banded together, gave genuine compliments to each other, and enjoyed hanging out together. Daniel was only included in the last couple of pages, but I'm intrigued by his thought process and it's obvious he has a hidden agenda. Honestly, I'm going to finish typing this review and buy this book.

I have been seeing this book everywhere, also hearing book good and bad things about it, so I knew instantly that I wanted this to be included in this post, thank you NetGalley! The opening of this book is great, depending on how you're looking at it. It really dragged me into it, which may not show me in a good light, but I was all for that drama. It pulled me into the story instantly and again giving me an almost instant bond and connection with the three characters; Samiah, Taylor and London. Having such an heated and intense opening, did also then cause my interest to dip slightly, as the story then went from action the to aftermath and daily life. On saying that, I was disappointed when my sampler came to an end. You get slight hints as to where this book could be headed and I am interested to see where the story and characters go from here. I do like the writing style and it was easy to get into and enjoyable to read, and I was shocked to discover that this wasn't the first thing Farrah Rochon has written, as it's the first time I've heard about her.

The Boyfriend Project (extended preview from NetGalley)

This is a light and fluffy romance from what I gathered.
I especially liked the beginning, with the introduction to 2 other women but I wasn't too impressed with the work office romance part.
I think I would be more intrigued if there was more girl time included. Of course I only have the preview so there probably is more scenes with the MC and the 2 other women she came in contact with.
I am interested in seeing where the MC takes her "spotlight" (I won't spoil so spotlight is all you get) it intrigues me. especially since it isn't something she really wanted. So, I wanna know what she does with it.
Hopefully, based on the few things I've heard about the book and my own thoughts from what I read so far, it goes in the direction I'm thinking of.

I would borrow this from the library.

2.75-3 stars.

This was a fun modern romantic comedy which drew me in from the start, with a smart and opinionated woman who works with computers.. since this is similar my own background I'm always happy to see women in technology in stories! The book begins with her calling out a man who was lying to her while taking another woman on a date she had planned for the two of them, becoming insta-famous and bonding with the other women he was deceiving to form a pact. I enjoyed the preview so much that I just had to read the whole book, and it only got better from there!

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing a preview of The Boyfriend Project. I have heard great things about this romance, and the first few chapters definitely have me intrigued. I still gasped at Craig's actions, even though I had read the synopsis, but I loved how it became an opportunity for women supporting women instead. Love the strong female characters, and I'm curious to see where the romance goes!

This book was a very enjoyable romcom. Although this is not my usual genre, I found this book to be interesting and relevant as it addressed issues of workplace discrimination for women, particularly women of color in tech and STEM industries. I loved the characters in this book and found the story compelling with a feel good ending. Thanks to #netgalley for this preview and @lirbrofm for an ALC audio of this book.

I read the extended preview of this book and now I want to read the rest! Rom-coms have been calling to me troughout quarantine for the escapism and readability. This book, though not a new concept (three woman scorned by the same dishonest man), had a premises that I have not read before and I love that it's going to be a series. The main character, Samiah is strong, witty and flirty. This book is definitely on my wish list now.

Samiah is a kick butt software engineer that won't let any man stop her from completing her goals!
Ok this book had me hook line and sinker from the beginning we follow a live twitter story and it turns out that Samiah's boyfriend is dating 2 other women and they all meet up where their bf is eating with a different girl and confront him *BOOM* YouTube famous so needless to say they become best friends and meet up every Friday and are so irritated with men that they put themselves on a 6 month dating break. Enter in gorgeous Daniel who starts "working" where Samiah works. Will the dating break be broken and is Daniel who he says he is?
Also this book is STEAMY 💨 it only has a couple of smexy parts but they get steamy. So steamy it'll steam up your glasses!
Also if you have the chance listen to this on Audio because the narrator is 👌👌👌👌👌

I received an extended preview of this book (the first 4 chapters). This book hooked me from the very beginning. It’s so easy to fall in love with the main female character. The male character is very intriguing from the short introduction that I received. I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops. A must read on my list.

This was the extended preview for this book. I can’t wait to read the full version, especially after so many great reviews!

This is a light & fluffy romance that emphasizes women's strength, together and individually. I loved that aspect of this book, along with the adorable romance of course! I read this super quickly (flew through it in one day), so I'd definitely recommend it for beach days or lounging by the pool. It's quick, witty, charming and all the good stuff you'd want out of a poolside novel, but without the cliche. The character development and representation in this book is top notch, and I would love to read more from this author.

I got to read the extended preview for this book and now I am HOOKED!!! I can’t wait to read the full book, and I absolutely love Samiah. She is strong and smart and so amazing and I love how she deals with her two timing (three timing?) boyfriend. However, the video that results is a bit much....

The Boyfriend Project is a fun, upbeat, modern read about Samiah, who finds out she and two other women have been "catfished" by a guy they met through an online dating app. The three women, though, hit it off, and become good friends who make this pact that they are each going to focus on themselves and their goals and swear off men for at least 6 months. This is of course when Daniel shows up as the new guy at Samiah's work, all tall, dark, smart and handsome. They have major chemistry, but both have their reasons for keeping each other at arm's length.

I really enjoyed this book, if not for the romance (which was good), for the friendships between these three women who connected over the bizarrest of circumstances. It was so much fun to read the scenes with these three together. Then there was Daniel. I really liked his back story and his sort of secret life. It was something new that I haven't read before. Very cool.

Overall, it was a fun, light-hearted, and non-angsty read, great for summer-time by the beach.

(I also received the full ARC; this is my review of that)

After an intense book club read (if anyone would like to discuss Ada Palmer's Too Like the Lightning, I have almost too many thoughts to organize coherently), it was time to downshift into something fluffy and fun.

My waiting ARC of The Boyfriend Project, by Farrah Rochon, was the perfect choice. Beautiful, competent people meet and are wildly attracted to each other, pursue a relationship despite obstacles, overcome pitfalls, and kiss on a lovely fade to black.

The best parts about this book are around Samiah and her awesomeness. She kicks butt and takes name, owns it at work, has goals and meets them. At the beginning of the book she's involved in a viral video with a couple of strangers who quickly become the friends she's been missing as she focused on her work. This new friendship is delightful and charming and I can't wait for the inevitable books about Taylor and London that I certainly hope are coming.

The workplace stuff is also great--watching Samiah navigate idea-stealers and potential promotions is competence at its finest, but watching this company be full of competent, happy people who are treated well by their managers and enjoy their work. I've had a job like that and it was brilliant, and this very much captures that feeling of excitement and teamwork that goes along with that. It's very much a story about a fantasy workplace.

Daniel is also very hot and delightful, and their mutual attraction is full of delightful flirting banter and longing looks.

The reasons Samiah had for not wanting to get serious (because isn't a romance mostly about why they can't just fall for each other smoothly) are pretty thin, but she's a person who's all about control, so it made sense for her character, if not strictly necessary.

Daniel's reasons to resist their attraction are clearer; he's taken his new job as part of a government investigation, and he's here to get the information he needs and get out. Falling for one of his new coworkers was not part of the plan, and the lies he has to tell to sustain his cover story make him uncomfortable, even as he is being his sincere self in falling in love.

This book has an admirable sense of the difference between privacy and lying, because Samiah is a pretty private person, and doesn't expect all Daniel's details. It could be much worse. But the fact is that there are a lot of lies throughout the book, and then at the end, when the reckoning comes, while the apologies are believable, there is maybe not quite enough groveling for me. I feel like some of the angles of his deception that bothered me were not the ones that bothered Samiah, nor the ones Daniel was apologizing for. I wanted a little more nuance in his apology.

BUT: he remains charming and hot and brilliant and nerdy, and a book where the capitalists are not all evil and the "police" presence is after white collar crimes was just the light touch I needed right now. I definitely recommend this one; if you like the cover, this book will definitely deliver.

Thanks to netgalley for letting me read this book.
It started off really well, Samiah realizes through Twitter that she is dating the same guy as 2 other ladies. Which, I loved. The best part was when these 3 ladies became really good friends. It showed something that you don’t see a lot in nooks, when you move to a new city it’s not that easy to make friends. Which is something that happened to me. So I totally related to these ladies.
Samiah then meets a guy named Daniel, at her work. Which is a trope that I don’t enjoy at all. Work relationships, are not what I enjoy reading about. even though Daniel technically doesn’t work at trendsetters.
I loved the friendship between Smaiah and the ladies, but felt that the relationship between her and Daniel was lacking something. I wish we got them going on dates, him meeting her sister etc.
When Samiah just forgave Daniel, I didn’t enjoy that part. I wanted her to hold out a little longer.
My favorite part was reading about a woman kicking ass in the tech world. You don’t see that a lot and now I want to read all the tech books.
I would recommend, it was an easy read and very enjoyable.

The ARC (extended preview) of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I cannot wait to read the rest of this story. I love Samiah's honesty, confidence, and self-awareness. Basically it is discovered through a series of Live Tweets that Samiah's current boyfriend is a catfish of sorts and dating multiple women. She ends up meeting up with the women when she goes to crash the date and they form an instant bond. They spend a wild night together and then return to their own lives with an agreement to continue their new-found friendship.

I'm not sure how far into the actual book I am, but so far it reads more like chick-lit than romance. The plot is an interesting premise and one I'm looking forward to reading more about. I look forward to being able to complete this review when my number comes up at the library.

My Ratings:

5*****I loved this book, consider it an all time favorite
4**** Thoroughly enjoyed the book and will recommend it
3*** I liked it well enough,
2** Brain Candy - It was okay. Writing mediocre, will
keep/re-read if part of a series
1* didn't like/possibly not finished
