A nice picture book that tackles the challenge of explaining feelings to children, and how Happy is not the only one you want all the time even if it seems that way. I loved the imagery and the use of colors. I thought the message was well constructed and shown through the book.

I enjoyed this book! I liked Marcy, the main character a lot. I think each of the feelings she identified and the situations she was in were realistic. Having each of the feelings personified made the book easier to understand and follow. I believe students, both younger and older, would have no problem understanding the message from this book and applying it to real life. In some ways, I did feel for Marcy. I understand challenges things had to happen in order for each of the feelings to surface, however at points I thought, OK, this same hard thing is happening again and she hasn't spoken to an adult about it. I do think her conversation with happiness about controlling feelings was positive and made sense. It helps students understand feelings, identifying them and dealing with them. This book can be used in multiple ways in the classroom. Also, it could be used in conjunction with books and lessons about self-regulation, mindfulness, yoga and meditation. I LOVED the tips for teachers and parents at the back of the book.

I absolutely love this book and would love to add it to my classroom SEL book selection. Allison did an amazing job of crafting story that involves all the major feelings that children go through. Even more, the end of the story allows a soft transition to discuss with children how they are feeling and the importance of validating those feelings.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and National Center for Youth Issues Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

I liked how this book explains emotions in a way that will help children understand that they will feel more than one emotion and it is not always going to be the one you want to feel. I also liked that the book explains how to deal with the emotions and how you can use those emotions to improve yourself.

This book follows Marcy through her day at elementary school as she deals with the multitude of feelings that come about. It’s a fresh, colorful book that deals with how to calm down and how to be at peace with yourself on a level that will make sense to kids in the elementary school setting. I also liked the parent tips at the end!

Marcy's Having All the Feels was such a cute book! I really enjoyed the illustrations. They were vibrant and colorful. And such a fun book for kids to learn about their different feelings. It will teach them in a fun way that we all aren'g going to be happy every single moment of our life and that is perfectly ok. The author did a great job with the message of this book. I will definitely be buying it for my grandson!!

I was a little concerned that this book would be over-written and full of modern thinking about talking through our emotions and needing therapy even at a young age. I need not have worried. Alison Edwards has written a balanced and practical book for young minds - age range 7-12 years. I also liked the tips for parents and teachers that were free from jargon and brought simple aspects of supporting kids with feelings within everyone’s capabilities.
With the children in mind the author has been blessed by the work of illustrator Valeria Decampo who gets it and is able to put into pictures the vast range of feelings that invade Mercy’s day.
She is able to humanise the moods into different sizes and colour that we can see. Mercy sees them to and talks to them throughout her day.
I also like Marcy’s dog who is a wonderful reflection of his mistress and lives every moment of this young girl’s rollercoaster life.
“Marcy wanted to be happy. Happy is ALL she wanted to be.”
This is the start of the book which goes on to explain and show why all our feelings can be seen as important and those we don’t like actually make us better people if we see and gain the positive rewards those emotions can bring. So we read “It is normal to feel sad.” ... and Marcy learns “and Sad could help her feel empathy for others.”
Liked it much more than I thought I would, confident to share it with young people as believe it will help them to acknowledge and master their feelings.
For me never too old to learn. ‘Never judge a book by its cover.’

This is a beautifully illustrated book meant to help children recognize their feelings and how they are all necessary, even the negative ones. It was realistic in the types of situations elementary children will find themselves in and gave good information on why it's best to acknowledge how you feel and let those feelings roll through you. I recommend this book and feel it is best read and discussed with an adult.

This is a sweet book that helps children understand and manage their emotions.
Who doesn't want to be happy all the time? But in this book children learn that feeling and experiencing ALL emotions makes them be a more well rounded person.
This book can create great conversations with young ones. And the beautifully drawn pictures will help hold their attention. I highly recommend!

In this sweet story, we see Marcy's feelings as walking, colourful beings like in Inside Out.

Through the story, Marcy comes to accept that each feeling has a valuable role and she learns to embrace them all.

This book is beautifully drawn and a joy to read as well as helping children to explore their feelings.

Thank you Netgally and the author for the free review copy.

When I first started reading this book I got a feeling it could take on a deeper meaning. This little book could easily be mental health related.

As someone who has a mood disorder I know personally what it's like to feel empty. It's hard to see Marcy go through that (even if it is short lived).

I thought the message of all your feelings having value was great. The illustrations are adorable.
