This book was an enjoyable exploration of the way we make our own luck, and the fact that everyone has their own struggles. It hits some more serious emotional beats while still managing to be cosy and romantic. Great read for that in-between time after Christmas and before you dive into the New Year.

What a beautiful story from Sophie Cousens!

Before delving into the possible change of love, we are immersed in Minnie's whirlwind birthday rituals (or lack there of as you'll soon find out) as we learn about the story of how she came into this world, and why she likes to hide away on her birthday every year! The first strong relationship we are introduced to is Minnie and her best friend Leila. Cousens portrays such a real friendship, as you see them go from doting on each other, to bickering like sisters! I love the banter between them and how there different personalities and characters bounce off of one another. We all need a Leila in our lives!

Then there's Quinn! They guy Minnie has grown up hating (even though she'd never met him!) and yet for some reason she can't help but feel drawn to him. I love how Cousens builds on their relationship throughout the story - it's not a simple, two people meet, fall in love and that's it. Watching their characters develop as individuals and their interactions with one another is pretty special.

Cousens has also created some brilliant secondary characters in this story who are authentic and real and bring so much more to the overall pleasure in reading This Time Next Year.

This story is filled with laughter, excitement and a great big dollop of romance! All in the most indulgent and beautiful way.

Also... any movie producers out there, you need to snap this up!!! Quick!

THIS TIME NEXT YEAR by Sophie Cousens @sophie_cousens

Quinn and Minnie are born on New Year's Eve, in the same hospital, one minute apart.

Their lives may begin together, but their worlds couldn't be more different.

Thirty years later they find themselves together again in the same place, at the same time.

What if fate is trying to bring them together?

Maybe it's time to take a chance on love...

I absolutely loved this book, I devoured every page and it was such a heart warming read I could not put it down.

This story is exactly what you want from the romance genre. The characters are fully developed and through the writing style you get to know the characters history.

It is brilliantly written by jumping from the present day to years gone by as the plot develops.

The special moments of the book for me were when you realise how Quinn Hamilton and Minnie Cooper (her actual name) are meant to be together. Fate was bringing them together again after thirty years apart.

But do they end up together? You will have to read to find out!

The will they, won’t they element of this endearing rom-com will keep you hoping and guessing for the outcome the author is anticipating.

I adored the friendship between Minnie & Leila. It set the foundation of this book from the moment Leila helps her out at the beginning of the story. Their honest and supportive relationship is the real heart of this book.

It’s such an exciting read and the little co-incidences that happen on this journey are thrilling and really keeps you reading.

It is an epic love story, set in London about real people brought together by circumstance, fate and pie filling!

Personally I just love books set in London, I seem to seek them out and devour them in days. This book certainly exceeded my expectations and I can not recommend it enough.

I am excited to read more from Sophie, this book made me think of Laura Jane Williams when I read Our Stop for the first time.

What did you think of this book?

Also the cover of this book is beautiful! I fell in love with it.

January 1st 1990 Minnie and Quinn are both born in the same hospital. Flash forward 30 years and they bump into each other unexpectedly on New Year's Day. Their lives have been very different over the years but maybe now they are on the same path.

In 2020 I got back into romance reads and this year I am looking to reading more. There are such original premises coming out which are a breath of fresh air. This Time Next Year was a cute read and I liked the New Year aspect and I am a sucker for concurrent story lines. I also love a flashback when done right. In this book the flashbacks were interesting and added depth, especially Quinn's, however I felt the flow was affected as the flashbacks did not run in chronological order. This meant that every time it flashed back I had to stop and think who we were following and how old were they. The main characters were likeable and the side characters were a mixed bag. I really didn't like Minnie's Mum and the severely detrimental affect she had on her daughters whole life. Overall this is a predictable slow burn read which I did enjoy picking up but I am not entirely sure I will still remember it this time next year!

A breezy read in the vein of ONE DAY IN DECEMBER or STAR-CROSSED about two people who spend their lives (unknowingly) in each other's orbit. The novel tackled difficult issues--including a struggling business and severe anxiety with a lovable cast of characters that complemented the main couple.

All the love, and all the stars, for this fantastic Rom-Com. What an unbelievable debut.

Minnie has been cursed on New Years Day since she was born. Maybe it's because she was named Minnie Cooper. Or maybe it's because a baby born a minute before her stole what was to be her lucky name,Quinn. On her 30th birthday, Minnie meets her name steeling nemesis.

I loved the chemistry and tension between Minnie and Quinn, but I also loved the friendship between Minnie and Leila. If only we were all blessed with such a beloved friendship.

Thank you Random House UK and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Have you read this book? I love it! Quinn and Minnie were born the same day, in the same hospital. The story has a nonlinear timeline to weave through the years of their lives at their birthday, New Years Day. The characters are flawed, but so beautifully written, as were the mom's of both characters.

This is a story of missed chances and of love and friendship and how fate can play a part in finding romance. It is a story of how Minnie And Quinn find each other after only been born minutes apart on New Year’s Eve and the story uncovers how both of their lives have played out and how they have got to where they are today. It was so much more than a romantic read and once had started reading I couldn’t put it down. It was also a perfect read for this time of year

LOVED IT!! I did a buddy (buddies more like it) read for this book and our discussions were great! I highly recommend this book. So many interesting characters that we are all (in my buddy read) trying to figure out and also decide if we like them or not. So much fun. I LOVE the timelines jumping around. It makes it so fascinating and captivating. Happy reading!!

This was a good and timely book to start the new year with. “This Time Next Year” was a cute book that did a good job having its sentimental moments without being too cheesy. You can’t help but root for the two main characters who are both easy to like, but they just must overcome their respective issues to make their relationship work. I found myself saying “aww” a few times, but also laughing out loud quite a bit. Cousens does a good job bringing some fresh elements to their romance while also making it a rather funny story. I’d try reading more of her works. 4 stars ⭐️ for this one.

I enjoyed this book! It was a cute hate to love story with a great New Years Eve twist. I would have been ok with the characters not ending up together, but it was sweet all the same. I really enjoyed the flashback timeline with the small connections between the character.

This book was what it promised: an adorably romantic story with all the right aspects of women in business, about getting back onto your feet, about family and support, and about overcoming grudges. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and recommend it as the perfect book to curl up with on the couch for New Years eve.

This is not just a romance book! Originally, when I picked it up, I expected to read a good romance book but it is soooo much deeper than that. It is so interesting how the author, Cousens, uses birthdays to tie Quinn and Minnie together, it is like fate has them destined to be together. (Also, because I am born on December 31st as well so this story just hits home. I love how Cousens was able to pull the story together and successfully use time jumping to add more meaning to the story. I found the characters to be hilarious and enjoyable and their character development to be at an accurate pace.

I was in the mood for an easy rom-com read and this fitted the bill perfectly. I loved Quinn from when we first met him, the relationship with his mother, the quick one-sided banter he would throw at Minnie.

The quirky unique subplot of a New Year's jinx was different to anything else I've read, even if it did become a little tiresome and I just wanted to yell at Minnie to get out of the house and live!

I also really liked the fact it covered the mental health of a character, it was written and portrayed well and gave the book that little more depth.

This book was heart-warming, captivating and a quick read, I blasted through it in a few hours. Perfect for this time of year.

Minnie Cooper's New Year's birthday has always been unlucky thanks to Quinn Hamilton, a man she has never met. They were born at the same hospital just after midnight, but Quinn edged her by minutes to win a cash prize for the first baby born in London in 1990, and he also stole the name that Minnie was meant to have. When they unexpectedly run into each other at a New Year's party just before their thirtieth birthday, Minnie resents Quinn even more. They couldn't be more different, so why do they keep bumping into each other? And why does each interaction leave them both wanting more?
Personally, I wanted to see more interaction between Minnie and Quinn. I don't mind a slow burn romance, however I did find this one a little too slow. They had such good chemistry together, I just wanted to see more of it.
I loved that this book took place over the course of a year because you could really see the character development and the changes in Minnie. I also liked that she never gave up on her dreams and found ways to get over the obstacles that were thrown at her.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC, which I received in exchange for an honest review.

One of my fave books of 2020- this book was a lovely and hopeful read from beginning to end.
Cousens more than delivered on the great premise of two people, Minnie & Quinn, born one minute apart who live entirely different lives, but somehow keep finding their way to each other.

The novel starts on their 30th birthday but through their memories, we see how many times they almost met or unknowingly interacted with each other throughout the years.

This book is laugh out loud funny throughout while still having Minnie, Quinn and the fantastic cast of characters work through serious issues like agoraphoria, anxiety, ec0-fatalism, commitment-phobia, breakups, letting go of life-long resentments and keeping friendships alive.

By the time we get our happy ending - at the very, very end, it hardly matters because every character has grown and found a certain peace & happiness that I felt in my own heart.

Reminiscent of Sally Rooney's Normal People and of Beach Read by Emily Henry (minus all the sex), in that as a reader you get to intimately know and fall deeply in love with each character, flaws and all.

I adored the plot of this read and it really is the perfect festive read! From the description alone, I knew I would enjoy this and then when the read started I instantly connected with the characters and fell in love with their story. However, where this read falls down is the writing. I did not find this to be very well written, it felt stunted, rushed and under-developed. I did find this quite a struggle to get into, not the plot itself but the reading of the words. However, I did persevere and it did get better, or I got used to it.

Anyway, returning to the positives and this plot just has everything you would want in a romantic read. There are moments of laughter and plenty of tears and pain. There are also plenty of funny moments as well. I truly enjoyed this read and at the end of the day, what more could you want.

Minnie is a great character and I loved getting to know her and her circle of friends, they are the real stars of this book. Quinn is also good, coupled with Minnie they are dynamite, but he is the weaker character when you just consider him. A storyline I was not expecting features the mothers of Quinn and Minnie. This storyline is incredibly moving and touching, I loved the mothers almost as much as Quinn and Minnie.

'This Time Next Year' is a joy to read and features a beautiful, moving story where I experienced a whole lifetime of emotions. The characters are just as stunning and if only the writing was better, then this would have been a stellar read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Arrow for an advance copy.

I love stories where people have connection from their childhood and this book is just that. Minnie and Quin keep missing each other since birth but then meets on the New Year’s Day on their 30th birthday. The book is not just a romcom but also has family, self growth self doubt elements to it. The only thing I would have liked more is more romance between the main characters as they keep missing each other even after they have met couple of times. So I would have like to know how they would have connected the links of all the times they were so close to each other but didn’t know each other.
