I loved the elements of this book: time, self-growth, and serendipity. "This Time Next Year" wasn't too cheesy, and the characters were lovable. I adored each character's personality, and it was hard not to like them. Even the worst ones were likable too.

The story is not heavy in romance, which is perfect for me. It's funny and charming. My favorite part is the beautiful friendship between Minnie, Leila (Minnie's BFF), and their employees. I also loved that Quinn, the prince charming, didn't rescue Minnie. She found her way to figure out her life. To answer Leila's question in the book, where do I want to be this time next year? I want to be at home reading Sophie Cousens' next book.

Although I read This Time Next Year in September, when I received my NetGalley copy, I almost wish I’d saved it for December – mostly because it starts on New Year’s Eve, and comes full circle, so it fits the festive season perfectly. Minnie, our main character, meets Quinn at a New Year’s Eve party in London, and they very clearly have nothing in common – except for the unusual fact that they were born at the same time, in the same hospital on New Year’s Eve. Minnie assumes she’ll never see Quinn again, but they keep bumping into each other as the year goes on, just as we learn they have done throughout their lives. Yes, this is a rom com, but it’s also about family, careers, friendship, self-confidence, and mental health. I loved the storyline, and I loved the characters too – definitely pick it up this festive season if you’re a rom-com fan like me!

I loved this story. Well written with some great, rounded characters this kept me reading into the night. Very light - perfect for the Christmas holidays.

A girl and a boy born on New Year's Day by moms who bonded in the hospital while in labor, meet up many years later and then our story begins. I liked this book and the way the author set up the flash backs. It was a really sweet story and reading it while Minnie come into her own was a great addition to this romance. Definitely an enjoyable holiday read!!

This book ended up being a pleasant surprised. It took me a while to get into the book, but once I did, the story flew by. At first, I found Minnie, the protagonist, to be off-putting, but she grew on me. I enjoyed seeing her development and growth throughout the novel. Plus, her relationship with her birthday twin/nemesis (Quinn) was interesting and unique. All around, a good book, and a nice holiday read.

This is such a cute story!! Perfect for a cozy winter day by the fireplace. I loved the dynamic between Minnie and Quinn! This reminds me a lot of One Day in December (British romance set around the holidays). I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for a winter romance!

I really enjoyed reading This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens, it is a romance but is also very entertaining. Quinn and Minnie share the same New Years Birthday, they were born a minute apart. Quinn was born first and his mother named him Quinn, after Minnie’s mum had said she was going to call her daughter that name. Tara didn’t realise that it would prevent Connie Cooper calling her daughter the name she had picked for her daughter. Minnie spent her school years being bullied and teased for her name. Not everyone would have chosen to be called Minnie Cooper, would they.
Will Quinn and Minnie ever get together?

Overall this was a charming and delightful book. It made me feel happy and I read it daily quickly. It is a sweet telling of how things are not always as they seem. I really enjoyed the characters and definitely a rollercoaster of emotions going through their journeys. The ending was strong and I stayed up late wanting to finish and know where it was going.

Some things I wasn’t a fan of: The timelines were a confusing at times. The large part of her quitting the job could have been more in depth in my opinion. Some of the chapters seemed short and irrelevant?? Minnie’s drove my bonkers and I would have been a lot more messed up than Minnie if I had a mom making me feel incompetent, unsupported, or convinced I was jinxed my whole life.

Synopsis: Minnie Cooper (yes that is her real name) is a walking black cloud and believes she is jinxed since the day she was born. Then she meets Quinn Hamilton at a New Year’s Eve party. The two come from completely different families and lifestyles and have nothing in common, except for the fact they were born one minute apart on New Year’s Eve. Quinn also “stole” Minnie’s name. After they met, the two keep running into each other. Is it fate? Or just coincidence?

There was lots I liked about this. I liked the setting. I liked the whole host of characters and how the story felt lovely and wholesome. I did find Minnie a bit much at the start as everything was wrong but loved her once she started to find her way and be the awesome person she was meant to be.

Quinn though. He can do one with his commitment issues

O.M.G. you guys. I mean this book was EV.ER.Y.THANG. I had hoped it would be going in.

But first, let’s start with a confession. I <b>really</b> wanted to read this yesterday when it came out. If you know me I’m sure you can imagine the first world problem sort of whining that ensued when I went to check the pornbrary website and saw that SIX others were in front of me. Heifers! But then I realized I had received this as an advance from NetGalley . . . .

I also assumed from the title that this story would be one that is familiar to oldies like myself with the "SAME Time Next Year" theme. But once again, WRONG.

Good news is, it was absolutely A-Okay that this was not what I was expecting. Because really all I actually was in the mood for was a holiday-type of read to remind me that smiling is sometimes my favorite.

The premise here is that Minnie and Quinn were born in the same hospital on the same day and only one minute apart. That day just happened to be New Year’s. The two meet for the first time on their 30th birthday and end up developing an unexpected friendship that the reader follows along for the following year. Backstory is provided in snippets of New Year’s Eves past to provide an insight into what made each character who they are.

I knew starting this I would quite possibly rage out if it didn’t play like a movie in my head while I was reading. Luckily I was not disappointed. This was an absolute delight and I could easily picture Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin melting hearts on the big screen.

I really loved the writing style of Sophie Cousens and that cover is beautiful! The UK version and US :)
I enjoyed the missed encounters and the development of the relationship between Minnie and Quinn. I also appreciated the importance of mental health depicted throughout this story. I found it to be a little off-putting with how wishy-washy Quinn was and how he treated Minnie and how she kept going after him. Those parts slightly annoyed me to be honest and that's why I give this 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, there are so many great aspects to this book and I do recommend it.

A feel-good romance, and a lovely story, which was also particularly funny. However, I felt there was something missing, and it was a little slow at times.

The story was set in different timeframes, which I liked, but also in the third person, and I think it's because of this reason I did not connect with the characters much and felt like I was an outside looking in.

I enjoyed the idea of this book but thought it fell flat in execution. I was significantly more invested in Minnie’s relationships with her friends, coworkers, and parents than I was in her relationship with Quinn. Minnie started to grow as a person but threw that all out the window in the last chapter of the book. Overall, not a book I would go out of my way to recommend unless readers are very interested.

I've been on a rom-com kick lately and This Time Next Year is one of my favorites! Minnie and Quinn meet at a New Year's Even party and seem to be total opposites except for the fact that they were both born at the same time in the same hospital on New Year's Eve 29 years earlier. The two may come from different worlds but those worlds keep colliding... is fate trying to tell them that they're meant to be?

One of my biggest criteria for a great rom-com is the banter. I want the couple to verbally spar, flirt and otherwise engage in sexy wordplay and Minnie and Quinn do not disappoint in that department. Sophie Cousens writes delicious dialogue that put a huge smile on my face. I'm also a sucker for anything set in England, (I've been known to marathon Notting Hill, Four Weddings & A Funeral, Bridget Jones and Love Actually) so this London-based story is right up my alley. But most of all, I loved the characters - not just Minnie and Quinn but also the secondary characters like their moms, Connie and Tara, Minnie's bestie Leila and her man, Ian, and the quirky bunch of friends that work with Minnie. They're all multi-dimensional and so many of them have their own emotional arcs that add a lot to the story.

Overall, this is a fun, quick read that will get you in the mood to ring in 2021 and make you think about what you want to be doing this time next year.

Modern, funny, magical and romantic, this book is perfect to lose yourself in on a chilly autumn night. I adored Minnie and Quinn, who were born on the same day in the same hospital but went on to lead very different lives. Minnie’s quirky band of colleagues were a joy and I found myself crying as I uncovered more of Quinn’s sad backstory. Each element is balanced expertly and I loved the flashbacks to previous New Years Eves - a crucial theme running through the book. If you need a bit of romance in your life, this book is for you.

In the end, it only takes someone to care enough to open your mind and want something better for your life. I have been reminded throughout my life that ”comparison is the enemy of contentment” and this book reflects that truth.
