A Scandal in Bohemia is a mystery where our favourite fictional detective may have met his match. This is the second book I have read and reviewed in this collection. I found this installment had less of the pictures and historical definitions geared toward the target audience than the first book did. However I did feel that the premise of a Scandal in Bohemia was more simple than that of a Study in Scarlet. Still I feel that the reveal was quite clever. I recommend the Sherlock Holmes Children’s Collection to younger readers who are interested in a lighter introduction to classic literature. I look forward to going back to the previous 10 books in the series that I have yet to read.

What a fun, middle grade version of a classic Sherlock Holmes story.

Entertaining, easy to understand for younger students and fun to read. Great pictures!

This series of Sherlock Holmes books is a brilliant introduction to the true novels and characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The stories are in tact and feature a crime or mystery to solve but the language used is very child friendly and the clues are mapped out slightly easier for younger readers.
This is the second in the series I have read and I find them interesting, mysterious and full of charm. Sherlock is a fascinating character, one of literature's best, and it is lovely to see him being made accessible for younger generations.
I will certainly be reading more of this series and buying it for my library!

A Scandal in Bohemia adapted for children is a fun read. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle might be classic and one of the fathers of the genre, but his books are heavy go. This interpretation by Stephanie Baudet is short and sweet.
It has all the necessary parts of the plot, characters and setting but it is much lighter and digestible for young ears and souls.
I found this version of the classic detective story is fun to read. The story about 'the one that got away' is very complex in meaning and repercussions for all the subsequent Sherlock Holmes' adventures. A Scandal in Bohemia a la Stephanie Baudet is all about adventure, disguise, wit and humour.
Well done.
I would place it into YA category, rather than children's. And... giving a recipe for 'plumber smoke rocket' is a genius move - boys will love it. But parents... be ware.

A Scandal in Bohemia, by: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; Adapted by: Stephanie Baudet

This is a great adaption on the original Sherlock Holmes story. The wording is still descriptive and the suspense of the story is still achieved in this rendition. In addition there are depictions of the story through art placed throughout the book. These help the children understand clearly what details are being described to them. It also helps them join in on the mystery.

I will be introducing this book to my classroom and recommending it to others. I would use this book for the grade levels between 2nd-4th grade for this adaption.

Great introduction to the world of Sherlock Holmes!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of A Scandal in Bohemia by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (original author) and Stephanie Baudet (adapted by). I've voluntarily read and reviewed this copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Scandal in Bohemia is a short, fun and quick read. In A Scandal in Bohemia, Sherlock is asked to help a King who is scared of being exposed. While it seems like an easy case, Sherlock soon discovers that he is up against a women who seems just as smart and cunning as he is.

This was very enjoyable. Especially since it showcases the first meeting between Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler. And it's nice to see Sherlock up against someone who isn't as easy to beat. The narration by Doctor Watson is also fun because he tells the story with so much wonder.

A great read as one expects from a tale about Sherlock Holmes.

This iteration of the classic Sherlock Holmes story was very readable, straightforward, easy for kids to understand and read yet still engaging, mysterious and surprising. I enjoyed the ways that the characters were described and suspense that the reader was left in as the mystery unfolded.

Overall I thought this book was a great first introduction for young readers to the stories of Sherlock Holmes and I am interested in seeing the rest of the books that are written in this series.

This was a very readable version of the original story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It has been simplified for a younger age group but the dialogue between Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson still retains its original energy. The story engaged me more as I progressed through the book.

Occasionally, an explanation box describes some unfamiliar item or idea, which is a very good ploy. The cartoon style drawings are great, succeeding in lightening the tone of the story. It is a fairly short read and I would recommend it to any fans of Sherlock Holmes who enjoyed the original stories. I enjoyed the book greatly and will look out for other books in the same series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Sweet Cherry Publishing for providing me with an advance copy. It will be available on 14th May 2020.

This publisher does an excellent job of adapting classics for younger readers.  In this instance, the choice is one of the most well known of the Sherlock Holmes canon.  Readers will become engaged in the story which is enhanced with cartoon like illustrations.  Hopefully, young readers appetite for more stories of Holmes and Watson will follow.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.  Of note is that the adapter explains the meaning of some of the words that may be unfamiliar to the young, modern reader.
