This was a lovely book of short comics that left me feeling nostalgic and laughing out loud! The comics were so relatable and found myself wanting to share them with my daughter as well! Such a good reminder that you can laugh at what life throws at you!
Normally, I don't gravitate towards comics, but I absolutely loved this one! I Left the House Today is so relatable. Cassandra Calin accurately captures everyday moments that most women will relate to. I am looking forward to seeing what the author creates next.
This is one hilarious book! The dry sense of humour, so typical of Cassandra Calin, gives me a sense of comfort. These are slices-of-life cute, relatable portraits of contemporary life. The art is simplistic and adorable.
My only complain is it's length! I wish this was a longer piece of fiction, so that I could have chuckled over a few more pages!
Lots of love to Calin 💕
Anyone who enjoys comics about the quirks of life will enjoy this collection from Cassandra Calin. Whether it's observations about the comforts of home, or the challenges faced by young women today, Calin is on-point and humorous.
I love Cassandra Calin, having followed her social media accounts for some time.
This book is a sure fire hit for fans and newbies alike, containing some hilarious and relatable situations for girls in the modern world. I especially love the strips that portray the expectation of a certain fashion trend or look, versus the inevitable let down of reality! Great fun.
I feel so seen! Granted, I'm not this young anymore, and I have fine, straight hair rather than a curly mane, but there is just so much truth going on here. The frustration of bras, the expectation vs. reality, how being pudgy and having hairy legs affects your wardrobe choices. Calin's art is so adorkable- the expressions capture so much feeling, and I never realized slapstick could be illustrated so perfectly! I laughed so much and shook my head in agreement so often while reading this, so relatable!

I Left the House Today! is one hilarious book. While scrolling through its pages, I was chuckling, taking screenshots, nodding and making oh so many mental notes. The sheer amount of relatability that the author has established goes on to show what power she has. This is my first graphic novel, so I might be a little biased with my opinion, but I'd recommend everyone to pick a copy and read it. Discussing issues like mid life crisis, relationships, beauty standards, body image, etc with such ease and giving assurance to every reader that they are not alone in this, the author has become my most anticipated author. I look forward to reading more from her!
This is a relatable and well illustrated little biographical comic book collection.
Some of the “stories” are not as relatable to me as I am a 30 something woman and I think this is more aimed at 20somethings. However, the fashion/beauty bits made me giggle. Who hasn’t had a hair, fashion or beauty disaster? She also covers boxed set binges, uncertainty about what we are doing with our lives, and other simple aspects of life as a young(ish) woman in today’s society.
Her illustrations are all black and white, and simple yet eye catching. I can’t believe how well she illustrates hair!!!
The title didn’t feel quite right for the collection as it wasn’t as heavily focused on being an introvert, more just social awkwardness/faux pas incidents. I’d have been more inclined to call it something like “should I have left the house today?!”.
I have now started following the author on Instagram @cassandracalin as I enjoy her style.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for access to this fun and funny collection.
I am a fan of autobiographical comics about getting through the day, and this was a fun read. The writing was fairly solid, for the most part. The visuals show an artist trying to find and settle on the right personal style. Some of the comics were amazing-looking. Others were a bit ugly for my taste. But Calin is very clearly talented and funny, and I will look forward to seeing more of her work.
This book was very relatable with a dry sense of humor. Just wish it was much longer. The art style was simplistic but I enjoyed reading it. I follow the author online and it definitely was a treat to read her book.
I'd like to thank the publisher and netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in an exchange for an honest review.
Cassandra Calin is a GENIUS! I love, love her work and of course I recommend picking this one up!
I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading this and filing away some of these for the future. The illustrations are cute and I have seen some of her work on IG before so I was excited to get and ARC from Netgalley. This was very relatable to current times right now with the pandamic and with me just being a homebody in general. Thank you to the publisher and #netgalley.
I am very happy I had the chance to read this lovely comic book!
In these comics you will find all the little struggles in the everyday life of a normal girl; pretty much the same struggles you might be facing on a day to day basis! I found these comics to be so relatable and funny; I loved every little detail! Cassandra Calin defenitely has a new fan.
I like how funny and relatable this comic is especially since this whole quarantine started. This comic is a definite 5 stars.
I've followed Clain on social media for a while now so I was so pleased to see her book available. So relatable and funny, it speaks to a way of life that I feel so many of us younger generations are sure to recognize.
Totally relatable and utterly lovable! This book encompasses everything that I regularly feel and it feels really good to know that there are people around the world who feel the same as I do!
Quirky drawings as well.
Thanks to Netgalley for giving me an ARC copy for a honest review.
I received a complementary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Adorable comics drawn in a simplistic but fun style! In 'I Left the House Today!,' Calin draws on relatable moments in everyday life to create this uplifting text. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to brighten their day.
Very short book but pretty funny, especially during this time of quarantine and social distancing. Looked the simple illustrations. Would make a really good book to give to a friend or coworker who is also working from home.
Though I certainly try not to leave the house much in the current pandemic, I Left the House Today! was just the brand of humor I needed. Calin had me laughing with every panel! A suggested purchase for most adult (or teen) graphic novel collections.
A short but hilarious comics collection where Cassandra Calin pokes fun at herself, whether it is failed attempts at different hairstyles or struggling at adulting. I loved the art and found it really added to the comics in a way that is lacking from similar collections. Highly recommended!
