i was completely skeptical about this book because i believe that i wasn’t going to be the target audience but honestly i enjoyed myself. the fact that this is about best friends finding each other after spending time apart it’s truly
a premise i want to read more about. i really enjoyed myself while reading this and couldn’t help but really like it. i did find a few scenes a little weird and uncomfortable.i read this for free in exchange for a review

The Yes Factor by Erin Spencer and Emma Sable is a book that is a love letter to best friendships. With 40 just around the corner, BFFs Bex and Liv have let distance come a bit between them as age and distance can tend to do, but they are still there for each other. So, Liv shows up to help Bex get out of her dating rut, but there's a bit more to it than that, as nothing is ever as perfect as it seems.

I am always a fan of a story where female friendship is one of the main love stories, and I hope there's a sequel, as I want to follow in the adventures of these two.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

I really liked this book a lot! It’s a charming story about best friends who get together for a week, one of them (Liv) lives in London, the other (Bex) in LA. Liv is married, Bex is divorced. Liv thinks Bex isn’t getting out there to meet dates, so she challenges Bex to say “yes” to everything.
Of course, this leads to some hysterical encounters, and both Liv and Bex make changes in their lives.

The Yes Factor was one of my “most-fun” reads of 2020! Bex is unsuccessfully navigating online dating in LA while taking care of her teenage daughter. Liv is across the pond, living her so-called Dream Life, with her absent husband. Bex and Liv have been best friends since elementary school and an impromptu trip lands Liv in LA, determined to ignore her own crumbling marriage and help Bex find her dream-date. From one hilarious dating snafu to another, Liv reminds Bex that sometimes just saying “yes” is the best decision of them all. The Yes Factor is such a delightful read and Bex and Liv are both incredibly relatable. Marriage, dating, female friendships, careers and children are all expertly navigated by authors Spencer and Sable. I found myself laughing and crying throughout The Yes Factor and was sad to end my time with Bex and Liv. Hoping for a sequel to come!

A sincere thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Seeing this cover and reading the blurb had me so excited to get my hands on this book. It is hard to believe this is a debut book for these authors. Their writing was flawless and pulled me in from the beginning. This book will have you laughing and turning the pages as fast as you can to see what happens.

Bex and Olivia were the kind of friends every woman wants. They had the best friendship, didn’t matter how much distance separated them.

This was such a fun read and I can’t wait for more from these authors.

I ADORED the focus on friendship in this book. At the heart of this book are two women who love each other deeply and are reminding each other how to love themselves. And I just really love that.

Liv and Bex are at turning points in their lives, one a single mom trying to navigate the online dating world, the other in an unhappy marriage. The two reconnect with Liv decides to unexpectedly visit her bff Bex in LA. While there she challenges Bex to "say yes" to everything in the dating world. She wants Bex to not be soo picky and to try new things, not knowing what it will lead too. During this process, Liv also reevaluates her unhappy marriage and realizes she can do better. A great summer read!

SPOILERS

The synopsis of this book hooked me in straight away. I am a sucker for books based around strong female friendships, also a sucker for a self discovery journey, but for some reason this book fell a little bit flat for me. Don't get me wrong it was not a bad book but something about it just did not make me feel like it was a great one either.

So you follow two life long friends, Liv and Bex. Both living in different countries and both dealing with romance issues. Liv is married, Bex is single. Liv travels to America to try be Bex's wing woman. Antics, drama, and arguments ensue.

The first part of the book I really liked it. I found it relatable and like many others would be able to relate to the friendship and what either Liv or Bex were going through. The middle however got a bit boring and silly for me and then I felt like the end was rushed to tie up the loose ends. Its not the ending I would have liked. If this is going to be a series the ending is even more so not the way I would have liked it to have gone.

SPOILERS

I would have liked for Liv to have gone back home and for Bex to have banged into Devon herself randomly and then it either ended (especially so if it is going to be a series, what a cliff hanger that would be) or for what happened to have happened but earlier on in the book so that their time, date, encounter whatever you want to call it was not so rushed and was a bit better written.

I also felt like the encounter of Liv with Adam was really weird and unrealistic but I dare say that will pop up again if this book becomes a series. I mean he seemed like a cool guy but the interactions between him and Liv seemed a bit over the top.

I would try to read another book by these authors still but this one just was not anything special for me.

Thank you to netgalley for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review

I loved this rom-com! Liv and Bex’s friendship was so fun to read about and I loved all of the witty commentary! I also really liked reading about their dating lives and interesting stories. I loved the overall theme of saying yes and jumping into the unknown! I would recommend this book!

3.5 stars – rounded

I’ve read a couple of titles recently which focused on characters learning to say “Yes” even when, in every other situation, they’d opt out. This is the first that is told in alternate POV form, with one’s challenge to the other becomes a growth and learning experience for them both. At different points in their lives, Bex and Liv are supportive of one another and an example of a solid friendship. While Bex is divorced and spends most of her time playing chauffeur to her teen daughter, she’s uninterested in dating or another relationship – she just hasn’t the time or the interest. But, Liv’s ‘perfect’ marriage has just dissolved, and she’s determined that even with her own life being in tumult, Bex is more than deserving of a new man and new outlook.

Thus begins the Yes Factor. Taking on the ‘say yes when you want to say no’ isn’t always the perfect way to shake up a life, but it does open you up to possibilities and potentials. Although this was ostensibly about getting Bex out of a rut, and give Liv some downtime to focus on helping someone else rather than deal with all of her own questions and regrets – there are secrets and regrets and issues worked through – in each separate point of view, although the interactions between the two is clearly a friendship and supportive, even as both are getting a bit of ‘help’.

Dialogue is witty and clever, often feeling very natural and apropos, and there are moments that are so disastrous (or put on) to seem ridiculously forced, but the general goodwill that readers get from both characters, their supportive friendship and even the flow of the story carries forward through the moments that don’t quite work. The balance of the voices and inclusion of the friendship moments – as well as the growth make this feel much more like a women's fiction with romance-like moments rather than a straight full-on romantic comedy, but easily will please readers searching for either in a lighter and easy to enjoy read.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This book wasn’t exactly what I expected but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It’s more like a woman fiction than romance for me but a very good story and well written.
I laughed out loud many moments and I also felt sad for the heroine.
I’m looking forward to more books by the authors

Description

Liv just wants her best friend Bex to find love.

Bex just wants to stay in bed with Outlander.

With 40 just around the corner, divorced single mom Bex is too busy being a chauffeur for her teenage daughter to bother swiping for dates.

Her best friend Liv, who is married to the supposedly perfect man, swoops in from London on a mission to get Bex out of her own bed and in to someone else’s. Liv pushes Bex into a week-long whirlwind of dates, awkward kisses and missed connections.

What could possibly go wrong when Bex agrees to Liv’s harebrained scheme of saying Yes to every possible suitor? And why is Liv so intent on fixing Bex’s love life, or lack thereof?

Just what do you find out when all of your no’s turn into The Yes Factor?

My thoughts

Being in the midst of a pandemic makes you realise how important friends are, that’s for sure, and the theme of female friendship is just one of the many parts of The Yes Factor.

The book follows Bex and Liv, two thirty-something’s who want different things: whilst Liv wants her best friend to find love, Bex is perfectly happy being a mother to her teenage daughter, sipping wine and watching Outlander (which, to be honest, sounds like bliss to me – at least the last two things, anyway!). Both of the women’s lives are shaken when Liv arrives from England and forces her friend to say “yes” to an array of weird and wonderful plans, leading to all kinds of funny, awkward scenarios for them both!

I love a book featuring alternate points of view and luckily, though they both had their flaws, I liked both characters. Both of the narratives were easy to follow and interesting, too. Though I wish we had more of Liv’s story – I couldn’t help but feel like bits of her character were still a mystery to me by the end of the book.

As someone who is very much a “no” person compared to a “yes man” (though, at least up until Corona, I was saying “yes” to whatever plans came my way!), it was interesting to see what might happen when you say yes. The book took an exciting turn as soon as the girls said “yes”, though sometimes the antics were just too weird to be true.

I’m very used to reading romance with a teenage, or young adult, face but The Yes Factor offered a contrast to this. I liked the fact that the women were given a second chance at love – Spencer and Sable definitely show you that everyone deserves a chance at love.

Something I didn’t like, though, was the ending. It was a good ending, don’t get me wrong, but I just felt like it was rushed – or maybe the excitement was just used up by the earlier chapters.

Regardless, The Yes Factor is an entertaining read – plus I wouldn’t say no to reading it on a sun bed with a cocktail, that’s for sure!

The Yes Factor is a cute page-turner all about friendship and the twists and turns of life.

Synopsis: The book is told through the alternating points of view of two friends, Liv and Bex. When Bex, a divorced mom living in LA, struggles to re-introduce herself into the dating world, Liv decides to come give her a week of dating encounters. What follows is a week of Liv pushing Bex to say yes to everything from dating much younger men to trying out a dating service for rich men. Throughout it all, Liv is hiding the truth of her very unhappy marriage from her best friend.

I loved the alternating points of view, allowing the reader to read both woman's thoughts. The crazy dating situations that Bex experienced during her week of Yes made me laugh out loud at times and shake my head at others. The dating scene seemed so ridiculous, and it added a lot of humor to the book.
