A Highlander Coming To Town is the 3rd book in the series in the Highland, Georgia Series by Laura Trentham and just like the first 2 it keeps you laughing, sighing, loving until the very end! I recommend to everyone new or old to Laura’s books.

This is the first book I've read by Laura Trentham, but I'll definitely be looking up her other books including the first ones in this series. While this book is technically the third in a series, it can be read as a stand alone novel.

Claire was an interesting character and I was intrigued by the air of mystery around her and why she was trying to hide in Highland. I loved how Holt tried to draw her out and into the community.

I really love the cast of characters in these books. Anna and Iain make some appearances, and Jessie Joe and Jessie Mac and Dr. Jameson - the whole town is a delight. Claire Smythe, lead singer of the Scunners, stayed in Highland after the summer festival, but it is unclear to those around her who or what she is running from. Claire keeps to herself, takes care of Ms. Meadows, and doesn't plan on getting attached to anyone since she has a date of when she has to return home looming near. She didn't plan on growing to care for Ms. Meadows, or becoming attached to the handsome farm boy (man) next door.

Since I have come to recognize the beats in this series, I was upset that Claire was a holdout for most of the book. She really thought she was going to leave up until the very end, and then suddenly realized there was another way, which seemed too quick of a turnaround to me. For being so set in her beliefs up until that point, I didn't think it would be that easy and quick for her to give up what she did.

Holt is an absolute sweetheart, and he was really the shining star in this book. Him and Ms. Meadows. I wish Claire would have gotten her head out of her arse sooner so we could enjoy more scenes of him and her being happy together. All in all though I am disappointed that it doesn't seem like there will be another book in the series, since normally the epilogue sets up the next couple while this one just covered Christmas with Holt and Claire and their families.

I really loved the synopsis of A Highlander is Coming to Town, but unfortunately this book was not working for me and I DNF after 20%. I wanted to enjoy the chemistry between Claire and Holt, but sadly it was lacking for me and I wasn't invested in the characters.

This was a cute small town romance with some holiday elements.

I liked the characters, even prickly Claire, but the pace is off. The build up of Holt's and Claire's relationship is sweet and fairly evenly paced.
Then things speed up and abruptly end.. The second half feels too short and the Christmas elements aren't as prevalent as I'd like.
This isn't a bad book it just fell short.

A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is a sweet, small town Christmas romance. I had high hopes for this book, but felt that there were a lot of loose ends and the story needed a bit more to tie all together. I really wanted to love this one, but it did not quite meet the mark for me.

A Highlander is Coming to Town is book three in Laura Trentham’s charming Highland, Georgia series in which Holt Pierson befriends the singer from a Scottish band, Claire Smythe, who has quit her gig to become a caretaker and companion to Holt elderly neighbor.

Claire is not what she seems. At first, she comes across as a prickly woman down on her luck when what she really is is an heiress trying to figure her life out. Due to having parents who were emotionally distant, Claire is reluctant to let people in but slowly lets in Mrs. Meadows, the woman she is companion to, and then Holt.

A Highlander is Coming to Town was a satisfying read, if only for the fact of seeing Holt’s progression through the three novels from oafish to a nice, funny guy. He is mostly content with where he is in his life but realizes just how lonely he is with his parents gone and his friends settling down.

As usual, Trentham delivers with a novel that is insightful as well as funny and provides layered characters who the reader cares about and who show us that not everything there is to know about a person is on the surface.

While A Highlander is Coming to Town is the third in the series, you do not need to have read the other novels to enjoy this one. If you’re looking for some fun and romantic escapism involving a sweet farmer and a prickly Scottish woman, I recommend A Highlander is Coming to Town.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A Highlander is Coming to Town is the third book in the Highland, Georgia series, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone if you haven’t read the first two books (like me).

This small-town romance follows Claire Smythe, a Scottish lass who has run from family obligations and has landed in Highland, Georgia. She did not plan to get attached to anyone, least of all a man, but Highland local, Holt Pierson finds a way to break through Claire’s walls.

This was such a sweet story. I am a sucker for small-town romances and Highland provided the perfect setting. A big plus for me was the characters. I loved Holt and Ms. Meadows, the elderly woman that Claire helped care for, but Claire just wasn’t my favorite heroine. There was some Christmas aspects, but not enough for my liking. I think I went in expecting a Christmas romance, but it was more of a small-town romance set at Christmastime.
I also just didn’t get enough of a romance from Claire and Holt. I wasn’t sold on it and I honestly can’t even figure out why. That is the major reason for my lower star rating.

Overall, I still liked the book, but not as much as I liked An Everyday Hero by this author so I think this particular book just had some parts that didn’t quite live up to what I expected.

3/5 stars!

Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for my gifted review copy! All opinions are my own.

This is my first time reading a Highland series story. I love Laura Trentham so I was happy to fall upon this book. I enjoyed every minute of this charming story. It immediately captivated me. Holt and Claire are fun, and I fell in love with Highland, Georgia. I need to go back and read the first 2 books in the series. I highly recommend this book and author.

An absolutely fun read that every Christmas romance loving fan will surely enjoy! Fans of cinnamon roll heroes will ALSO love this story despite wanting to bean the heroine in the head a time or two. LOL

A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is a 2020 St. Martin’s Press publication.

Slightly offbeat, small town Christmas romance-

After quitting her gig as the singer in a rock band, Claire is basically hiding out in Highland, Georgia, taking care of Ms. Meadows, an elderly woman who requires a little assistance and company.

Why is Claire hiding out? She has a few heavy decisions she will soon have to face regarding her future, and she’s taking some time to come to terms with the burdens of unavoidable responsibility that awaits her once the holidays are over and she must return home to Scotland.

The last thing on her mind is romance… until a sexy guy named Holt occasions to come to her rescue when her grocery bag breaks and when she has trouble with her bike. Despite his good looks, Ms. Meadows warns Claire this guy is trouble with a capital T!!

I added this book because it had a holiday theme, not realizing it was a part of a series. For the record, the book is easily read as a stand-alone, so don’t let that deter you.

The characterizations are what makes this a fun and lively story. Highland is apparently a unique place to live, and it’s no wonder Claire felt drawn to it and had no desire to leave. The romance is cute, with only a bit of low- level angst.

My one complaint is that it seems there is a trend among holiday centered contemporary romance novels at the moment, which is to ignore most of the holiday elements until the last few chapters of the book. In the past, some authors have gone too far in the other direction, I will admit, but if we are going to market a book as holiday romance, perhaps more of balance is called for.

Nevertheless, the Christmas spirit does shine through in the end, adding a dash of magic to the story.

Overall, this is a lovely romance, with a bit of spice, and a touch of holiday cheer!

Laura Trentham does it again with a contemporary romance and third book in the Highland series, A Highlander is Coming to Town. Lead singer and Scot, Claire Smythe, takes a job in Highland, as a way to get away and have time to herself. Anyone who has spent enough time in a small town knows this is not possible, especially after meeting a hot farmer like Holt Pierson. To learn how a southern man falls for a prickly Scot with a secret, read Highlander is Coming to Town.

As I head into the eighth month of my work from home and self isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, I've found myself looking forward to holidays a lot more. Needless to say, I've been gearing up for Christmas extra early this year and was very excited to get the opportunity to read and review A Highlander is Coming To Town.

This book opens with Claire, who is hiding out in the small town of Highland from her family responsibilities. Unfortunately, her character really beyond the fact that she was hiding out from her family - she struck me as a spoiled heiress that wanted her money but didn't want to work for it. Her entire character was that she didn't want to run her family's company - she was hiding as though she had an abusive family after her, but she simply wanted to cash in her inheritance without the responsibility of earning it. I found it hard to empathize with her because she was the one creating her own problems. She didn't really have an external struggle, most of her struggles boiled down to rich people problems - should she cash in on her massive inheritance and live a lavish life or not?

Claire's chemistry with Holt was iffy - she constantly put walls between them without any discernible reasons and overall their relationship felt forced. I wish there would have been more justification for her actions and that the book would have explained her motives more. Because I couldn't understand Claire's motives, I wasn't able to get invested in her story. Also, the plot itself felt more suited to being a novella than a full length novel - there simply wasn't enough going on to justify a book of this length - the plot dragged in many spots.

Unfortunately, this book was just not for me. I couldn't move past the lack of depth to the story and Claire's spoiled behavior. I hope others enjoy this book more than I did, but A Highlander is Coming to Town definitely fell flat for me. 1/5

Thank you to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for an ARC of ‘A highlander is coming to town’. This is the third book in a series and overlaps with characters from book 2. However, it could work as a standalone.
🎄
If I’m being honest, this wasn’t my favorite. I thought Holt finally was shown in a positive light and I enjoyed him and Mrs. Meadows. But overall, it felt a little rushed, and I expected it to be a holiday romance but I didn’t really get that vibe throughout. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, just in comparison to books 1 and 2 (which I loved!), I was expecting something different.
🎄🎄🎄from me.

This was a heartwarming novel! Claire is staying in small town Highland, Georgia, well really she is hiding out there. But what she doesn’t know is that she will become close to some people and meet a handsome man along the way. The story is full of holiday charm and delightful humor!

had mixed feelings about this book. I liked the characters and love the town, I felt the background around the Claire wasn't very giving to her personality. I also felt that Holt was a little boring. I did enjoy Mrs. Meadows and liked reading about the past characters and seeing where they are now. I also loved the holidays in the town.
I just felt this book was a little slow to read.

I really like Laura Trentham's writing and I liked the previous books too much, but this one took me a long time to engage in the story both because of the unnecessarily rudeness that Claire treated Holt and because I didn't understand why the poor man always insisted on taking care and being interested in women who wanted nothing to do with him. Oh god! Poor guy!

Holt has been interested in Claire since the first time he saw her singing at the city festival but Claire has always acted aloof and distant. Now they end up getting closer and Holt proves at all times how he is an honorable man and how he would like to get to know the mysterious singer better.

If I had already liked him in the previous books, now I fell in love for good and almost go into the book to convince the guy to give up the arrogant and rude girl. But Claire redeems herself in the end and their declaration of love is super cute.

“A Highlander is Coming to Town” is the third book in the Highland, Georgia series by Laura Trentham. While it is the third book in the series, I do believe that it could be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed the characters in this book for the most part. I found Claire to be insufferable at times, lol. I liked the Christmas aspects ( although I could have used more ,lol). The ending was a little rushed. Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I received a free electronic copy of this romantic novel from Netgalley, Laura Trentham, and St. Martin's Paperbacks. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I have read this novel of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of the work. Laura Trentham writes a feel-good romance, a perfect distraction on gloomy winter days.

This novel got shuffled to the back of my Kindle and I missed its publishing date by quite a bit, but it couldn't have come to my attention at a better time. Two days of snow, two additional days of mud, both of which are very rare in my patch of high plains desert. Ms. Trentham kept me snuggled into my reading chair with tea and cookies and at least one cat until the weather improved. Thanks!

A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is the third in the Highland, Georgia series. Being the first I have read, I was concerned about coming in 'late to the party', but there was no reason because there was plenty of information for me to enjoy the book and not feel like I missed anything. One thing I feel is a bit funny is that by looking at the cover, I assumed the Highlander coming to town was a man, but in reality, it was the woman in the story. Not a big deal or anything, I simply kept thinking a Highlander man would be showing up. This is the story of Holt Pierson of Highland, Georgia and Claire Smythe, the Scottish Highlander. These two are very different types of people, but mesh quite nicely together in this light and fun Christmas romance.
