A big thank you to NetGalley and Darcie Rowan PR/Wild Coyote Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the third in a series, but my first read. It reads well as a stand alone. I am not sure if I got a bad copy but there were many edits on each page. Words with th, and ff those letters were missing. Sort of distracting. I usually don't mention this but it was on almost every page. I found this to be kind of odd, the premise. I didn't really connect with Dani or Gage. They were basically on the run the whole time. I found this just to be ok. 3 stars

Hit and Run is the third book in Lori Matthew's Callahan Brothers series. She was a new author to me and although the books are said to be stand-alones I prefer to read a series in order and was able to find book #1, Break and Enter, on Kindle unlimited for free. I enjoyed that book and so purchased book #2, Smash and Grab, which I also liked, although not as much as book one.

Still, I was looking forward to book #3, so I'm sorry to say that it just didn't work me. The beginning was promising, it was off to a good start with lots of action in the opening scenes. But unfortunately for me it was all downhill from there.

Dani was supposed to be this genius hacker, and I think she was supposed to be this nerdy, intense, quirky character, but for me she came across as immature as well as the typical TSTL heroine. A couple examples: She “borrowed” (stole) high level code from a hostile government to design her software, and naively assumed if they caught up with her she'd just return it to them—no harm/no foul. She knows people are out to kill her yet she takes off on her own, putting herself and others in danger. (TSTL)

The story also seemed rushed to me even though most of it is them running and hiding out from the bad guys. And I didn't really feel a strong chemistry between Gage and Dani, but before I knew it, it became a case of insta-love between them.

I'd give Hit and Run a 2.5 to 3 stars, it was just okay for me. But since I did enjoy the first two books in the series I would probably give the author another try in the future.

Hit and Run is the third book in a series, Callahan Securities, by the author Lori Mathews, but it is the first I have read by this author. I received an eArc via NetGalley and will do my best to give a fair review. The book is a fun, romantic-suspense romp, but it does have its issues. The premise sounds great; stubborn female hacker is hiding from killers who want her computer program and arrogant private security man is sent in to find and protect her. Any good romance reader can see where this is going! Dani Pierce and Greg Callahan butt heads from the start, but Dani soon sees the upside to letting him keep her safe.

For the most part I enjoyed this story. They spend most of the book being chased and hiding from the bad guys. Typical stuff and there were some funny moments. The first problem I had was I really did not feel a romantic connection between the two at all and then Bam! Romantic interlude happens! I never understand how this happens. The second issue I had was that I understand this is an eArc and there are supposed to be errors, however this book is so full of them it is exceedingly difficult to read. Almost every word with “fi” and “ff” and “th” is missing those letters as well as some others. I got surprisingly good at deciphering after a while, but it was distracting from the story. I think I’m going to become a professional proofreader! Just kidding!

Under normal circumstances this would have been a fast read and fun as well. I would give it 3 ½ stars, but due to the many errors I have dropped it down to 3 stars. I do think I will read the other books in her series though.

This was a good book- a bit of intrigue, action and overall, well paced.

I didn't feel a connection between the main couple, Gage and Dani. I thought they were mean to each other, especially in the beginning, to the point where I wasn't sure how they could reconcile romantically. But generally, the backstory of the hacking and their cat-and-mouse games were interesting though so I enjoyed the overall story.

I received a copy from NetGalley- thanks for a good read!

A note to NetGalley- I also had a really difficult time as the mobi file was corrupted so it was unreadable. I had to read via the pdf file which was better although there were still some errors but at least the file was readable and the errors were ok for an unedited version.

This was a great story. It was hard to decipher in places with the editing unfinished. It made the flow of the story a bit stilted. I would certainly purchase the finished product.

Another book that sounded really promising but just didnt deliver in the writing. I dont know how so many authors can make the writing so choppy.

ARC received for review

I haven't read the first two books, but was in no way lost in the backstory. I didn't fell the spark or chemistry between Gage and Dani. I knew who the bad guy was but it sure took them a lllllooonnnggg time to figure it out. Plus there was a whole lot of running around and hiding and running around and hiding.

This is my first read by the author. I wish I had read the previous books in the series. I wouldn't say they are completely necessary but I would have gotten a fuller picture of the storyline. The story was fast paced and had a lot of action. My only issue was that it seemed like there was no real reconciliation after the blow up. There was a lot of hurtful things said on both sides and the author seemed to gloss over it during the wrap up of the story.

When Dani witnesses a woman die after getting hit by a car, she realizes that she’s been ‘found.’ She’s been working on a secret programming project for Jameson Drake, and she’s done her best to stay under the radar, but the woman who dies is wearing a coat just like hers, and has similar hair.

The similarities are too close to ignore. She decides to leave Alaska, and Drake sends her a bodyguard. Gage and his brothers run Callahan Security, and Gage has been all over Europe searching for Dani. Unfortunately, he’s spotted the same men in multiple locations, and knows they are searching for her as well.

Dani and Gage each have some fears and emotional issues to confront in this story. Dani’s are a result of trauma she suffered as a child, and Gage’s stem from the loss of a close friend during a covert operation. Both have to learn how to live with the reality of these issues and accept them in each other before they can consider having a relationship.

Gage and Dani have to figure out how these criminals keep finding them. Apparently there’s a mole in Drake’s employ, and they are wreaking havoc and danger around the world in various projects he has in the works. The mystery of who and why Dani and Drake are both targets leads to tight pacing and several close escapes!

This book holds the reader’s interest throughout. Dani is a strong female protagonist, and she is able to hold her own against Gage while waging battles of wits and verbal exchanges. There are times when Dani has to face things that scare her, and Gage offers her support without belittling her. There are times when Gage is rigid in his thinking, and this causes both of them significant pain and suffering. There are many things to love about this book and it should make a wonderful summer or autumn read!

I am loving this series! This is the third book in this series but can be read as a standalone! This book has everything! It had intrigue, drama, suspense and action packed! It has some steam to it too! I definitely recommend reading this book and series! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

I just could not get into this book and with all the missing letters it was so hard to read. Hopefully by the time this book comes out it’s easier to read. Overall I just could not get into the story and like the characters. On top of that and the editing errors this just was not working for me.

"Hit and Run"by Lori Matthews is a well-written mystery/romance book. The heroine and hero are equally matched, and you feel a kinship with the heroine and her reasons for being in the situation she is in. As a reader, I found myself cheering Daniella on with her mission, and feeling her fears, pain and misery. I would recommend this book to other adult readers. The plot was well-planned and kept the reader reading.
