I enjoyed this story with all of the characters. Domino is waiting to be adopted at the local animal shelter. He says a prayer that he hope that he will get adopted soon. The next day Jenny a local farmer comes to the animal shelter to adopt a dog so it can help herd the sheep on her farm. So when Domino gets to the farm he meets the animals there and also finds out that they need his help with the problem with the Hexe.

This was a fun read with its adventure and the mystery of the Hexe. I feel like this book could be more for middle age children and older. It does have a bit of scary to it so if you don't like ghost or things with a bit of fantasy.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

This is a cute story about a corgi, Domino. After accepting the position as President of Brewster College, Jennie adopts Domino from the local shelter. Domino is very happy to leave the shelter and its vengeful, mean manager. He wonders how he even survived his stay there. Jennie takes Domino to the Brewster Farm, where she is staying, as she settles into the job during the summer, where he meets the other animals. The farm has a parrot, who is wise beyond description and who talks up a storm, chickens, and sheep, along with Jennie and the animal caretakers. Upon being introduced to the group, Domino learns that he has been chosen/sent by the powers-to-be to get rid of the resident specter, known as “The Hexe”, who routinely terrorizes the farm and the animals. The humans in the area believe “The Hexe” is more of a myth than a reality, so do not pay much attention to it. Almost from the start, Domino becomes besties with the parrot, who is wise, understands human talk, and who agrees to help Domino out with his “mission”. As time passes, “The Hexe” shows up, and many terrible things happen to the animals all around the farm and who live in the neighboring woods and by the near-by lake. Domino has no idea what he is supposed to do to get rid of “The Hexe” or how to get the animals to stop reminding him of his task. Still, his one friend, the parrot, is ready to help him figure out what he should do, for which Domino is very grateful. However, even together, can this unlikely pair figure things out and reach mission accomplished? It will take everything they have to do it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the series. Domino is a great dog, who is wise, cautious, friendly, and ready to do whatever is necessary. It was interesting to watch the friendship between the corgi and the parrot develop, as well as to watch how all the animals interacted with each other. The incorporation of the area’s early residents and their history, stories and such also made the book all the more interesting. I particularly enjoyed the way the author figured out how to have the animals talk among themselves and to each other in an “animal language”. I figure this is a very realistic thing, though I have not done and research and am in no position to attest to the fact that this exists. In addition, all the characters were well done and very realistic. The plot was enough to keep interest, but did not detract from the story of Domino, the farm, the animals or the other human characters. I think any dog lover would like this book and find it fascinating. I am sure this will be one series I will follow. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

🐶🐦Animal characters & plot engaging but a bit slow in spots🐔🐑

I think children of 7, 8 and maybe a few years older will enjoy Domino the corgi's adventures in this well-written book. Each of the animals he encounters on the farm and the surrounding countryside after he is adopted by a newly-arrived university president has its own distinct personality. The hens and sheep are particularly vocal in their insistence that Domino play the hero and rescue them all from a sinister, shady character lingering in the woods nearby. Domino grows into his role of protector for both human and animal residents on the farm and Lovey the parrot is a perfect sidekick that boosts his self confidence and translates what the humans have to say about the strange incidents in and near the farm.

There are some spots where I think the story was strung out to add a bit of suspense and instead it just made me impatient and annoyed at the tactic, most notably in the telling of the legend of the Hexe. But, overall, it's a cute, suspenseful mystery with some interesting subplots and a plea for proper selection and care for pets. And, if mom is involved in reading the story for her children, the author has thrown in a humorous reference to a snobbish Pride and Prejudice character that made me chuckle.

Thanks to publishers BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

I originally requested this book as something to read to my young son, but when I opened it and found it to be more of a novel than a story book for young children I decided to read it for myself. Granted I am not the demographic this book is aimed at, but I decided to try it anyway.

The author introduces the characters well, and breaks down the two sides of the interpretation with the animals speaking to each other and understanding the humans, and the humans who can only understand each other. The story sort of sticks to the rote of 'there's a monster in the woods' which provides the suspense required.

Personally, I struggled to read this, possibly because I was trying to put myself in the mindset of the intended demographic aimed for, but it wasn't too clear what age this book was aimed at. At times, the book is too scary for young children, but also too childlike for young adult readers. The illustrations, whilst good, also add to this confusion. One little bugbear of mine was the use of a paragraph of repeating text accompanying the illustrations that was off-putting when having read it seconds previously.

Thank you for NetGalley for providing a free copy for me to review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I'm sure this is meant to be a children's book but I really enjoyed it. It had an engaging storyline and excellent characters. It was a lovely light read which made such a refreshing change for me. Already reading the second one in the series.

This was such a delightful book! Domino the corgi was such a wonderful character to follow. As a corgi owner, I was very sad about how he was portrayed in the beginning but luckily he was adopted and was given a better life, however, Domino lacks the confidence of a dog. Throughout the book, he finds that confidence and he is tasked with getting rid of The Hexe. I really enjoyed the fact that all the animals could communicate with each otherI had fun reading this and I feel like children older than 8 could read it and not be frightened by the Hexe and the story.

Domino is a lost pup. Not lost wandering, but lost as in - within himself. He didn't know he was a Corgi until a bird told him. He lacks confidence in all of his natural doggie instincts. So when all the signs point to him being the answer to ridding the farm of the Hexe and all the animals are counting on him. He struggles in more ways than one to figure out what he should do and how.
I read this book to my 8 year old and it was a pretty big hit. The characters are fun and easy to understand and empathize with. The story is intriguing without being too scary. I even think he could have probably read this himself. When he found out there were more of these he keeps asking me to get the next one and the fact that the title talks about a ghost has him excited.

Domino is waiting to be adopted as he sits in his kennel. He says a prayer hoping that he will get adopted Jenny comes to the animal shelter looking for a dog to herd the sheep and be a watchdog. She adopts Domino as he is a Welsh corgi and they are known for herding. Domino is so happy to be adopted. When he gets to his new home, the Brewster home, he meets his soon to be best friend. Lovey is an African Grey parrot. Lovey talks to Domino in the universal language. When Domino is taken out to the barn, the animals asked him when he is going to get rid of the Hexe. The animals insist hat it is his job. How do they know that Domino is the one to do this? What is the Hexe? Domino learns that he needs to know what it is. When he learns, what it is, he finds that the Hexe appears to be indestructible. Domino doesn’t know what he will do. Will he be able to get rid of the Hexe?

Domino shows how to be friends with someone different from him. He learns many things about himself. The story is filled with adventures and the mystery of the Hexe. It is also a story about feeling loved and safety. This is a sweet story with a little creepiness in it that shows how Domino can overcome fear. I enjoyed following Domino’s story of learning what he can do in spite of fear.

This is a delightful book whose main characters are a Corgi and a Parrot. Domino the Corgi is rescued by Jenny and brought to Brewster farm. Once there, Domino is told, by the other farm animals that he must save them all from The Hexe. What ensues is a great story where the animals can all speak to each other. There is even a lesson and education on shelters and pet ownership. I think any child over the age of 10 would enjoy this book and not be scared by the Hexe. A quick read for an adult. Wonderful characters both animal and human.
