Goes by seasons which is cool - in the index it tells what is each season. In part two where the recipes are, you get at the bottom something to do to connect with the drink. You get some classic cocktails at the end. Good for those who want more food/drink related books.

Witchcraft Cocktail by Julia Halina Hadas was more than just a fun Halloween, witchy inspired cocktail book.

It is packed full of information regarding witchcraft, divination, cocktails, and much more! While I found all of the information at the beginning interesting, except for how each aspect related to drinks, a lot of the information was repetitive for me, from other books.

Some of the cocktails were rather traditional while others were some cool new mixtures I have never seen before.

While I did enjoy all the information, for me it got a bit boring at times towards the beginning. I think a lot due to repeat information for me. If you are someone who loves to entertain and Halloween or Witchcraft this book is for you. I think it is a book you would get more out of each time you visit it.

I received an eARC from Adams Media through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

WitchCraft Cocktails is a great book for newbies and more experienced people. The author gives a background of bartending tips and tools for those who aren't familiar, like me, so I really appreciate that. I'm more familiar with astrology and mystical things, but still learned things I didn't know.

Love the recipes in the book and how they are organized by season. Looking forward to buying a hard copy of this book, because I bet it's going to be beautiful!

Thank you Netgalley and author Julia Halina Hadas. This book is a gem!

This book is so much more than I expected! I thought it would be just a book of witchcraft cocktails but this had quite a lot of useful information. I had no bartender knowledge but this book gives you that in a concise, easy to understand way. It had enough information on astrology, tarot, and herbs to satisfy curious minds, and provides that information in a way that is helpful to understand why different cocktails have certain ingredients. I'm quite impressed with this book and can't wait to try many of these drinks!

When I saw this book, I knew I had to check it out because it seemed like an interesting take on cocktails. I knew it was inspired by witchcraft, but I was still pleasantly surprised by how the author combined cocktails and witchcraft. I could tell that she is a practicing witch as well as a well-versed bartender right away.

The book starts out with a bit of history on alcohol, witchcraft, and general herb preservation. She also goes through the basics of bartending, which includes tools and techniques, as well as getting into the ingredients and how to combine witchcraft with drink making. It was a very interesting read and I rather enjoyed the opening.

Once I got to the drinks, I was amazed by the wide range of drinks and the information she includes with each one. Other than the delightful pictures, there is a bit of information on what inspired each drink and what properties the drinks have. While majority of the drinks are alcoholic beverages, there are some non-alcoholic drinks mixed in. I also like that the end of the book includes a list of classic cocktails and an herbal intentions list to encourage readers to try their hand at creating their own drinks based on tastes and what they hope to invoke.

Whether or not witchcraft or general herbal properties and what they can do for you is something you’re interested in, I think this is a great book. There’s a wide variety of delicious looking and sounding drinks along with detailed bartending tips and recipes on how to make some ingredients from scratch. I think that it’s a great book for anyone interested in expanding their cocktail recipes.

This is a gorgeous and incredibly well done book of witchy cocktails. While I am not Wiccan, I can appreciate the book for the wealth of information that author Julia Halina Hadas passes on about everything from Tarot cards to crystals to chakras along with really thorough bartending information and then a wonderful array of Wiccan cocktails for each season of the year. Beautiful photos show more than half of the cocktails (I wish it was all) and each one has an intro about its purpose. Spells and rituals are given in the directions to impart purposes like fertility, reversing bad luck and so on.

Hadas provides some recipes for syrups and other ingredients at the start, and many of the recipes require these master recipes. You'll need to source ingredients like elderberries, elderflowers, rose petals, hibiscus flowers, hyssop, nettles, etc. for these, so most of the recipes are not something many readers can instantly just whip up. I have two china cabinets full of dried herbs but I don't happen to have some of the herbal ingredients called for and some recipes call for fresh ones. Like most cocktail collections, it also calls for a wide range of spirits, so it can be a bit costly to compile the ingredients to make up a big selection of them. Hadas suggests buying small sample bottles of new-to-you liquor to see if you like it and then investing in larger sizes to save money. An end section contains simple recipes for a big selection of standard cocktails, too. The styling of the drinks in the photos is over the top phenomenal, and will have you wanting to make every one of them.

This will make a fantastic gift for Wiccan friends and family (I'm considering buying a copy for my fabulous goddaughter who is Wiccan and is turning 21 next month), or a treat for yourself. Recommended.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

What an amazingly fun and unique cookbook! I am not a wiccan, or follow any of these rituals religiously, but I found all the information fascinating. A bit of background on crystals and chakras and how to utilize these for a whole body/life enhancer. Plenty of fun recipes for unique and quality drinks. The pictures are gorgeous and enticing.

Recipes are separated into seasons. This makes it easy to find something fun for a holiday party or in alignment of a solstice. Recipes include advanced magic using tarot cards and also which energies a drink focuses on.

I really loved everything about this book. I can't wait to order a physical copy to display. It's so fun.

What a fun book of cocktails meant for those who consider themselves witches or who practice pagan magic. The book starts much like any other cocktail book, describing barkeeping basics like different types of alcohol and tools of the trade. Then it gets more interesting. There's also an introductory section about what the authors call “Witchcraft Basics.” In this section, she talks about various magical associations like planets, sun signs, tarot major arcana, and crystals and gemstones. The final introductory chapter provides recipes for infused syrups that can be made ahead for use in the cocktails. After all this preparation, we finally get to the cocktails, which are divided by season starting with fall. Each drink has a photograph—which I always appreciate—though some drinks are obscured in the winter section because they are in mugs, not cocktail glasses. The cocktail combinations sound yummy and look very inviting. Some colors achieved are stunning, like a light purple or deep red. For each recipe, the author provides the drink’s seasonal context, whether it's a holiday, a named moon (e.g., Snow Moon Psychic cocktail), a new astrological sign, or something else associated with the season (e.g., The Prosperous Pumpkin cocktail). At the bottom of each page, the author also shares an “advanced” magic strategy that involves a tarot card or crystal. Fun stuff! If you enjoy cocktails and find the idea of making magical ones intriguing, you may very well find this book a treasure trove of tasty delights.

Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for providing me with an e-arc of the book in exchange for an honest review.

5/5 Stars!

Holy Moly! I'm not sure I knew what I was getting when I first opened this book- in the best way possible. For someone who does not follow witchcraft practices, this was all very new to me and Hadas made it so easy to understand and follow along with. The book starts by providing a history of alcohol and witchcraft and how they've intersected over time. Then, there is a very comprehensive explanation of cocktail making. For me, the book really took off in Chapter 3, where Hadas provides the reader with witchcraft basics including all of the magical elements, gemstones, astrology, tarot, and the rationale behind the flavors used in the cocktails.

Even though I'm a lover of cocktails I've never created my own bitters or shrubs, although I've purchased them pre-made countless times. WitchCraft Cocktails provides these recipes while allowing you to customize each one with its own sweeteners as well. It's really interesting to see what goes into each element of the cocktail in addition to trying the final drink.

I think my absolute favorite part is that the cocktails aren't broken down by spirit, but by season! As we're finishing summer and entering fall I was so excited to see the cocktails embrace the flavors and feelings of the seasons. The standout for me was The Stinging Scorpion, a twist on the traditional Manhattan, which is both delicious and seasonal. Whether you're a practitioner of WitchCraft or not, this cocktail book is fantastic!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Full disclosure: I don't really believe in witchcraft and was interested in checking out cocktails.

This is a surprisingly thorough book with beautiful pictures! There's a lot of information on tarrot cards, charing crystals, and how to get your ingredients. Once the information is included there are recipes based on season with information on what each recipe accomplishes, how to make it, and information about corresponding crystal.

Some of the ingredients are rather obscure and may be hard to find. Overall it's certainly a creative book!

Witchcraft Cocktails is easily the best cocktail book I have ever and will ever look at. The formatting itself is just gorgeous. As someone who is more spiritual and grew up with tarot cards, I appreciated the add-ins in the beginning with a tarot guide, astrology, and crystal information.

It's truly hard to find which drink to start with. They are all magical and thankfully easy to mix together. This cocktail book will be a staple for me going forward. It may even be a Christmas gift to a few friends!

I am both a practicing pagan and a devotee of fancy drinks so I knew this book was for me. What I didn't know was that I'd like it so much that I'm already bookmarking recipes and pre-ordering a hardcover copy for my home. The book includes both bartending and witchcraft basics plus appendices of basic cocktail recipes and intentional correspondences for the herbs you might want to include when designing your own drinks. The photographs are stunning and atmospheric. The true star of this book are the the cocktail recipes themselves, indexed by season and accompanied by a suggested magical object or brief ritual. I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of this book.

WitchCraft Cocktails is is a mixology reference with recipes developed by Julia Halina Hadas. Due out 8th Sept. from Simon & Schuster on their Adams Media imprint, it's 224 pages (print version) and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

There is a long intertwined history between witchcraft and alcohol. The author writes authoritatively about craft, practice, and alcohol from the past down to the present as well as a short lesson on personal responsibilty (everything in moderation). The following chapters include a solid bar reference with good descriptions of varieties of base alcohol, barware, tools, and other supplies. This chapter includes one of the more comprehensive guides to glassware I've seen anywhere. There are recipes for concocting the mixing ingredients (bitters, syrups, shrubs) with most of the emphasis on intention and craft (attuning, preparing, centering, and grounding). The author gives a short survey course of ingredients, crystals, chakras, astrological, and tarot implications,

The recipes themselves are arranged seasonally: fall, winter, spring, and summer cocktails and elixirs. There are circa 20 per season, whimsically named and appealing. Recipes have ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Recipe measurements are given in American standard measures only, with a conversion chart for metric measurements provided in the appendices. Serving sizes and suggestions follow in the step by step instructions.

The book's appendices include good "non magical" recipes for classic cocktails, a list of herbal intentions for abundance, divination, communication, creativity and others, a bibliography, and a cross referenced index.

This is a comprehensive and well written book with an obvious slant toward witchcraft uses but with relevant content for anyone interested in mixology. The photography and graphic layout are well rendered and appealing. This would make a good gift for a fan of home cocktails, witchcraft, alternative philosophy, or the like.

Five stars. Well done (and worthwhile even for readers who are not wiccans).

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
