I ended up DFNing Firefrost at about 35%. Unfortunately the writing style just wasn't for me. I struggled connecting with the characters and just wasn't invested.

Initially I was loving this book, but it lost me somewhere along the way. I think this story just went in too many directions. I definitely preferred the beginning when Kelan and Sol were just traveling the snowy mountains together. I loved the snowy atmosphere at the beginning. I honestly preferred the tension of Kelan and Sol being enemies more than them being lovers. I also think the time jumps confused me. It took me a while to realize that a lot of time was passing.

Great cover. I tried to get into this book, I love a good fantasy book. This however was ok at best. A bit confusing at times and the characters were not all very likable and the worldbuilding was a bit messy. Would not finish the series.

Not the type of book for me at all. I wanted to give it a shot but I couldn't get into it, which actually made me a bit sad. It just isn't for me.

Firefrost gave me mixed feelings.

I wasn’t certain on the first half of the book. I enjoyed the premise, but the enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers grew tedious.

This was partly due to the characters. I loved Kelan from the start: the boy fighting against his destiny, determined to be better than how everyone saw him. But Sol took longer to warm to due to her stubborn nature and refusal to let down her guard. It made her strong, but also made her cold.

The second half of the book, however, I loved. Relationships finally started moving forward, which gave the plot momentum and heightened the tension. We saw the characters – especially Sol – grow as they formed their own thoughts rather than what they’d been told. I liked both of them by then, and you rooted for them to find a way to be together despite all the odds.

I liked the magic system; more than one way to control fire meant it wasn’t as clear cut as we’re led to believe at the beginning. It gave all the characters power and limitations in their own right, and allowed Sol and Kelan to complement each other’s talents. The idea of a group of people being taken over by demons, decided from birth and unable to do anything about it, is an intriguing premise as well.

The plot in the second half was also stronger. It moved from just travel which, despite its perils, did grow a little tedious at times. As more characters become involved, the stakes are higher and you see the main characters flourish as they have to protect more than their budding romance. The pace also increases, which meant I was unable to put it down during the latter part of the book.

Overall, I found this a thoroughly enjoyable read. I looked to continue the series, but as it follows different characters, I’m not certain whether it would draw me in the way this one did. Maybe one day I’ll come back to this world.

Despite a slow start, Firefrost is an action-packed novel of magic, forbidden romance and overcome prejudices despite everything you’ve been taught. It’s an enjoyable read and one I’d recommend to anyone looking for a new fantasy world to explore.

First of all, the cover of this book is very pretty, Secondly, I found that the relationship between the two main characters was very well developed. This was definitely my favorite part of the book.

The story was well told and the characters were great but the worldbuilding lacked a bit. I do love a good enemies-to-lovers, and this book delivered!

Unfortunately, I forgot to download this book before it was archived. I still wish to read it based on the beautiful cover as well as the great book blurb. Will be purchasing.

This book felt very unfinished. As far as I'm concerned the world building was lacking, the romance was childish, and nothing about it hooked me.

This was not too enjoyable for me. The chemistry betwern the character felt forced and awkward.
The story was alright...but something was missing.

The story started off strong, but it became very repetitive. I also could not get invested in the characters. Still, I recommend this for those that love strong romances.

This is a typical enemies to lovers scenario with my favourite trope of all time, found family! There’s just something about people coming together and leaning on each other until they become inseparable and their own little family.

I particularly enjoyed the pace of the book for the most part but it does dip a little in the middle.

It’s an interesting take on a fun concept and I love the character building throughout, I just wish the author had allowed the characters to grow a little more naturally.

Thanks, Netgalley and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review!
"Firefrost" turned our to be a great way to introduce a prequel of a famous story. I knew I wanted to read it when I saw "enemies to loves", "fire magic" and "found family" - my all-time favourite elements in a good book.
The pyro-magic gives a very fresh feeling of a system I have no clue about, and it was truly thrilling to follow Kelan's story and his attitude towards such a supernatural gift. He was my favourite among the characters, especially after we learn what his heart wishes turn out to be and how tenderly he expresses them.
Sol, on the other hand, was a challenge for me to like. She started off as a fierce heroine with a set vision and grew into a thoughtful girl in love who needs to make a tough choice and question her beliefs.
It was fascinating to root for Sol and Kelan as a couple and to see how their hearts bloom in a very hot chemical reaction.
I haven't read the rest of the series but this book is how I envision a great back-story of a world.

The characters nestled themselves into my heart pretty quickly in this one, which is probably good since this book had very little plot aside from following along with our characters.

It does get more intense and the world does expand as you get nearer to the end of the book and then it leaves you on the thirstiest trap of all cliffhangers! I do, in fact, need to know what happens next though, so mission accomplished.

The slow burn, enemies to lovers romance is done very well!

Some of the plot twists were fairly predictable but they are done well enough that they're still enjoyable.

Overall, it was a middle-of-the-road read for me and I'm good with that.

I thought this book was pretty good. I really liked the banter between the main characters. Its the enemy to lovers fantasy trope, which is the best. Overall, I thought it was a good story. There was a lot of character development but not much world building.

This was a good fantasy book but I went in thinking I would love this book as I adore enemies to lovers but the plot just felt slightly repetitive at times. It was nice to have dual POV between Sol and Kelan and I did enjoy the idea of the magic - Flameskins, mages, etc. This is a prequel to the series and I would be willing to keep reading the main books.

I really enjoyed the first 40ish%, then the repetitiveness of the storyline started to irritate me. There is a decent Enemies to Lovers plot between the MCs in the beginning. But once the tension of that wears off the story really starts to drag. I honestly think this would have worked much better as a novella, that way the good part would have been highlighted stronger.

Overall, it was just an okay read, but I do not think that I would be continuing the series.

**A free copy of this book was provided to me for review. All thoughts are my own**

Thanks so much to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for the eARC.

This is a story with a really interesting premise. I liked the world building and how the characters interacted to tell the story. I liked it enough, but I think I set my expectations a little too high for it, thus, the 3.25-star actual rating. I did enjoy it so I hope the rest of the series is better than this one since I also plan on reading them :)

I was really disappointed in this book. I enjoy about the first half than everything fell flat. There was no romantic tension. The kiss came out of the blue and the enemies to lovers thing didn’t work.

An interesting premise, and engaging at the beginning, by halfway I felt a little bored. There was quite a bit of repetitiveness and the plot did drag in a few places.

The enemies to lovers trope was done well however, and I did enjoy the dynamic between Sol and Kellan.
