•I was given a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.• First of all; that cover is stunning, I am so drawn to pretty covers! This books concept is super super unique - Flameskins? And pyra? Like a demon or something giving them powers. I have never read anything like that, so the absolute originality is so cool. I love that it’s an enemies to lovers type romance, I love that kind. I do feel as if the romance, and the plot was quite rushed, and there were elements that made it feel as if I was reading 2 different stories. The plot twists were interesting, and I really liked the little artworks scattered through the pages. Overall a pleasant, unique, cool read!

While this is marketed as a young adult fantasy book, I’d argue that it’s more of a love story in fantasy trappings. Sol d’Hillerod, a huntress recruited to guide a group through the mountains, finds her path crossed with that of Kelan Birke, a “Flameskin.” As the two come to rely on each other (first by force, then by choice), they struggle to square their feelings with the teachings of the worlds in which they grew up.

The relationship between Sol and Kelan feels rushed and forced at the beginning of the book, especially because Sol has so much baggage regarding her view of “Flameskins” that she struggles with, but it hits its stride about halfway through. Once established, their relationship solidifies more and more as they work together to escape the roles they’ve had since birth, and, honestly, I really enjoyed watching them grow to depend on each other and have the other’s back.

One of the reasons this book stood out to me is because, instead of joining their respective armies and leading the charge to save their people, Sol and Kelan spend their time truly trying to escape, to completely remove themselves from the fight altogether. Obviously, this doesn’t exactly work (or we wouldn’t have a story!), but it was definitely a fresh perspective.

Although I still have questions at the end of this book, the main story itself feels finished, and, since it’s part of a series, I’ll likely have my answers as soon as I have a chance to read the next book. Can’t wait to revisit those magic mountains!

Firefrost was definitely giving me vibes of other books and some movies. Not sure why I was thinking of Elsa or Pocahontas towards the end.. but I definitely was. Other than that, this was giving off some wicked king vibes as well. Either way, I enjoyed this book because I just love enemies turning into lovers. There's just something addicting about them.

In it, you will meet Sol and Kelan. She's a huntress and a mage. While he's a flameskin and technically an evil demon in her eyes. Yet, he hasn't given himself away and continues to fight his inner demon/pyra. Along the way, they meet each other. I mean, they did try to kill one another plenty of times.. and so did a possible avalanche BUT details!

This whole world and mountain were pretty cool. I wanted to know why people hated one another and why people were just killing them based off of who they were or born into. Didn't really seem fair to me but eventually Sol's hatred for Kelan floated away. She no longer saw him as the demon she was always taught to see.. but as a human being.

After the ending, I'm super excited for the next book. I want to know if my Disney vibes will continue to grow and what is going to happen next on this new island.

When this book ended, I was so upset that it was over, and I couldn't read more about these characters! Sol and Kelan are adorable little cinnamon rolls - cinnamon rolls that could kill you. This book is beautiful (hello cover!) and classic enemies to lovers tale.

The world-building in this book is wonderful, descriptive, and very creative. The different kingdoms and how they relate to one another is very well throughout, and the plot had me turning page after page with a unique magical world. The development of Sol and Kelan's relationship is perfect and timed so well, with romance and so many surprising and adventurous plot twists! She is a huntress trying to save her home and village by leading a party through the winter mountains. He is a soldier fighting for his very soul. They come together in order to survive, but they soon find themselves in the middle of a war that threatens them both.

If you are looking for romance, adventure, twists and turns, with beautiful world-building, this is a book for you to read! As a note, this book is a prequel to a series that takes place in the future. It could easily be read as a standalone.

I enjoyed this YA fantasy, the characters are strong and likeable, I really enjoyed Sol and her relationship with the mountains and the forests, and I was really intrigued by the concept of the Flameskins and their pyra, and the internal struggle that Kelan battled with.

Overall, I would have loved to see some more development of the wider world, there was a bit of this towards the end which I really enjoyed, but the majority of the book was focused closely on Sol and Kelan and their relationship and journey, which was enjoyable but I felt like I needed a bit more depth at times.

I do think that the story suffered from pacing issues, for the first 50% it didn't feel like a huge amount really happened, but the second half definitely upped the stakes a bit further and left me with a whole lot of questions going forward. I don't know whether this is getting a sequel, but if it does I would certainly pick it up to find out what happens next!

This book had promise of exceeding current fantasy trends and doing something unique. I found that the twists and turns used in this book were common trends that I was able to easily guess. The book was a nice and easy read, but it did not thoroughly capture my attention as I wanted. In a way, I feel like they were two different books smashed into one because the first portion and the second portion have different vibes. The romance portion was amazing and I have no problems with it and would not mind having updates of the couple as they age. There are almost too many unanswered questions and I hope that they will be addressed in future books in the series.

I think the world-building could have been stronger as a whole, instead only portions of the world were strongly built while other areas were not emphasized. I think it does leave questions unanswered that some readers are going to want to continue reading to find out.

I think that if you like SJM and YA fantasy books with similar vibes you will enjoy this book. I think readers should give this work a chance and see if they like the story or not.

The author is clearly gifted in their writing style because they were able to write an enemies-to-lovers trope from both perspectives. I definitely want to read more from this author because they are talented, this story just did not intrigue me enough.

I have been searching for a long time for a extravagant, addicting and compelling YA Fantasy book and I think my search is over. Also, I am all about unique character names but these were a little bit on the extreme especially when they appear quite often like Sol and Kelan however, while reading I completely understood the mindset Camille Longley was going for in writing the story. My heart was racing, jumping and skipping at every chapter and I did not want to stop reading this book. Reading this book was like getting a brand new shiny toy that you just want to keep on playing with. I wanted to keep reading Firefrost over and over.

Not only will we consider adding this title to our YA collection but I am definitely going to be first in line to buy it at its release date and I know it will have a home on my bookshelf. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

This was a definite roller coaster of emotions in this clean, fantasy, coming of age story. Our hero and heroine are on opposing sides of a war and must repeatedly face situations that force them to choose between their personal goals and their sense of duty and loyalty. There were some plot twist that I wish were more fully developed, but overall I really enjoyed this story.

This book had brought me to an amazing time with Sol and Kelan !!

Of course, while reading this book, I couldn't not think or Romeo and Juliet's story.
But this story literally ate me !! I couldn't stop my reading, until I had finished the book.

Kelan and Sol are enemies, well, at least their kind are ennemies, but little by little, they'll know how to appreciate each other's company. Together, they'll face a lot of challenges, and it won't be easy for them.

Kelan is a flameskin, inside him live an entity, his Pyra. Kelan is doing whatever he can, to keep his Pyra inside him, he refused to let him take control and lose himself, that's not what he want, even if it's something that is normal to do for his kind. But, he wants his own freedom, he want to make his own choice.

Sol is a huntress, she is escorting Princess Isabela, who is supposed to marry a Prince, that will help them during the battle with the Flameskins. But things won't go as planned.
Besides Kelan, Sol will start to ask herself what she should do, especially since she seems to like Kelan the more they are together.
But a part of her, can't betrayed her father by falling in love with Kelan. She'll have to make a decision, a one that can change everything for the both of them.
It's well known, that love is stronger than anything.

This book touched me very deeply, I was sad when I finished this book, because I really enjoyed reading their story.

I really enjoyed this story. I liked the world building and the magical elements. I liked Sol and Kelan. I got pretty invested in their story. It felt a little repetitive at times but they were on the run so they were bound to get caught. I liked surprise plot twists and turns the story took. All in all it was a fun read. I wish there was a sequel. Thank you for the opportunity

Firefrost is such a satisfying and wholesome book. I really enjoyed the story and the development of the main character's relationship, which often made me laugh out loud!

I don't know what the rest of the series is going to look like but I know I am excited for it.

I'll admit that when I first walked into this world I wasn't aware that it was a prequel to a series so please take into account that my review and rating are based off of reading Firefrost as a standalone.


This world is exciting (wow!), enthralling, and absolutely brimming with adventure and angst!

This beautiful book (have you seen that cover?!) is told in dual POV (yay!) and is a classic enemies to lovers tale! The story follows Sol, a huntress born in the mountains tasked with accompanying a Lady through the frozen mountains to an arranged marriage. Her party quickly becomes accosted by Flameskin soldiers, those born with the ability to wield fire, and her world is turned upside down! Enter - Kelan, a Flameskin lieutenant who is rescued by Sol and falls to her mercy as they precariously try to escape the grasp of the mountains.

Watching the character growth was magical and I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of this book as the twists and turns just kept coming! I appreciated that although this story contained romance it wasn't solely driven by it. The magic system felt unique and original and even if I found myself wishing for more world building throughout the story I now realize that that information may be gleaned from Camille's future books.

My main reason for knocking a star off on my rating was in regard to follow through, I wanted to experience more at every twist and turn. I wanted to be able to live in the captivating scenarios for more than just a paragraph or two. Kelan and Sol have so many exciting and amazing things happen to them on their journey and as a reader I wanted my involvement with them to last longer in those scenarios of intense growth or turmoil.

With all that said, if you are looking for a unique story chock full of plot twists, adventure, betrayal, romance, and excitement then this book is likely for you! I would definitely recommend it to fans of Shelby Mahurin and Danielle Jensen. I look forward to checking out the rest of the books in this series!

Sol was like the mountains, an unchangeable part of the land. Eternal and unbreakable.

Fantasy is one of my favourite genres and I love monsters, so when I read the synopsis of Firefrost I instantly knew I had to pick it up. I mean, if a writer somehow includes monsters in his/her novel, then I don't need to ask anymore questions. They can gladly take my money! Because monsters imply contradictions, delicious ambiguity, and probably a lot of death and chaos. So yeah. I like monsters and Kelan has a demon inside of him that only wants to burn EVERY SINGLE THING in this world and enjoy the view... as hell -I beg you excuse my stupid pun. How could I say no to that? And in case you're interested, in Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series there are also characters that share their bodies with demons who speak and think as independent entities. If I'm not mistaken, this also happens in The Phantom Forest by Liz Kerin.

I've really liked some aspects of this book, which is why I'm a bit sad for not being able to give it a higher rating. Sol is a super brave female character! She knows how to hunt and survive in the mountains and she's not afraid of killing, plus she takes care of her family once her father dies; not everybody would've done the same. However, her attitude towards Kelan ended up being too annoying. I understand that Kelan is a monster in her eyes, because that's what she's been told all her life, that's what she believes, but he proves to her that not all flameskins are evil creatures that bring death along with them and Sol is just not willing to admit he's right. Instead, she insults Kelan whenever she thinks of him as a normal boy, an actually kind one, and blames him for every bad thing flameskins do. Isn't that unfair?

Changing her mind of course will take time, that's why it feels natural that she's skeptical at first. Denial it's a very logical reaction, but at some point it becomes pure stubbornness from her part. Kelan is honest about his feelings, even though he's more than aware that he has fallen in love with a girl that hates his guts for something that he didn't choose nor that he can change, for the matter. It's evident that Kelan is desperately trying to be different, so seeing that Sol is cruel to him by saying and doing things that she later regrets made me extremely angry. Girl, stop playing with the boy's feelings! That's not nice.

I've enjoyed reading Firefrost, but I'm afraid it didn't surprise me that much; probably because I've read a loooot of YA fantasy novels at this point. The plot is interesting and I loved the fact that the author explores the duality and fluidity between the concepts of human and monster. In addition, the love story is cute and there's no instalove, which is always fantastic. You also have the enemies to lovers trope!

I gave it 3 stars mainly because of Sol's attitude and because some parts were unsubstantial, in my opinion, so I had to push myself to continue reading. I'm not sure if I'll read the next book (it's not a standalone), but I definitely don't think it's a bad book. I know many readers will love it.

First off, I absolutely adore this cover. It immediately pulled me in and got me to request this book. Firefrost follows the story of the Huntress Sol and the Flameskin Kelan. Fairly early on I could see that it was going to be an enemies to lovers trope. I really liked both the main characters and I felt they did have a good connection with each other. I liked the book up until they reached their destination (trying not to spoil here), but I felt the storyline after that point was very rushed to tie it all up in a very neat bow. I was surprised as I thought this was a series but realised this seems to be some sort of prequel book as it is listed as number zero. I felt there also needed to be more world building happening here. It was going to be a 4 star read but the rushed ending knocked it down to a 3 star rating for me.

I received an ARC of FIREFROST by Camille Longley thanks to the publisher though NetGalley. It is a marvelous Romeo and Juliet novel with fire magic and wildness like an icy-filled Starry Eyes. It is everything I could possibly want concept-wise in a book.

The first half of FIREFROST followed this concept perfectly. I could live in that mountainous terrain forever and listen to the banter and hatred and warm, fuzzy feelings. Sadly, this did not last for the whole book. While I understand that the plot requires more than this (trying to withhold spoilers), I think I would have preferred a duology where the mountain area plot was expanded upon to create book 1 and then the fallout was book 2.

I think this is my long-winded and whiny way of saying I wanted more books because I loved it and having more time to expand upon it would make it even better.

Sol and Kelan are truly incredible characters with such strong morals and sense of goodness that their polarity draws you in.

On top of all of these already amazing reasons to read this book is the fact that it tackles a huge struggle of society: discrimination. It does it in a way that is not overpowering, and it’s resolution feels a bit too real (which is more a comment on life rather than the novel).

If you enjoy tension, war, magic, and a romance for the ages, this is for you.

A really fun and interesting read. I had an enjoyable time reading this and it held my attention the entire way through that I finished it within the day! I enjoyed every page and thought that the plot/story was very unique. Would recommend to anyone!

Okay, this is an interesting one, I would say don't let my 3 stars detour you from this self published-ish YA. I actually looked this up and this got published thanks to a fairly successful Kickstarter, so that's awesome. It's also volume zero in a series that hasn't been released yet.

In this world, regular humans live side by side with "flameskins"- humans who are born with extraordinary powers of flame- and pay for it by more or less having a demon slowly consume their identity.

Due to these creatures largely being a danger and the demons inside them lusting for blood, these flameskin are killed by humans, creating a cultural divide and what appears to be a war between these factions.

Sol is a human/mage huntress. Kelan is a flameskin. When they are both put in unprecedented danger, they must learn to understand each other and survive, together.

What was really cool and interesting about this is that it really presents some interesting questions to the reader- namely, if someone has a 100% chance of being evil, is it worth valuing their life when they are innocent? How do you judge this? Who can make that call?

Unfortunately, while the author absolutely explores these themes, there is limited world building in favor of a heavily character and romance focused arc, which would be fine, but I was much more interested in this surface level world than the characters. NOT because the characters were bad, but because the ideas presented were really cool!

I ultimately was left unsatisfied due to this, as well as how quickly the characters ended up falling for each other despite extremely strong feelings of prejudice and hatred. There was a pretty limited build up for that that left something to be desired.

But regardless, this is one ton watch yall! Keep an eye out for this author, I will be!
