This book was the type of book you read and just smile and laugh. The kids will really enjoy reading this fun, loving book. Even though the girl gets in trouble, it is all teaching a lesson that kids need to learn and this book shows how. It is well written and an easy read. The book reminds me of Beverly Cleary book.

This book was very sweet but not something I would usually choose. Nothing stood out about this book for me. It’s well written but didn’t appeal to my interests.

If I had grade school age kids in my family, I'd get them this book! It's a fun read and the characters are relatable to the 3-6th grade group. I like the togetherness of the family and friends, it's a pleasant story for kids. Might make a good summer story, or with covid keeping so many home, this might just fill in some downtime from school work and social distancing. It's a quick, easy story. I'm looking forward to M. Carroll's next book!

Such a beautiful and cute book I couldn't put down to even do anything because it was so good. Highly recommend for anyone who loves fast reads such as this.

Jo was in for it, this time, she was caught redhanded stealing of all things. Being a bright kid and all, Jo knew exactly how to get the help she needed to complete the task given to her as punishment. What she didn’t expect was to be rewarded in any way. A fantastic, fun, and exciting story, with great quirky characters, a fun read your kids would truly enjoy.

Liked that this was an easy quick read. The story flowed well and had a great beginning, middle, end. Really liked Jo. She's tough and smart. And I enj9yed that all the friends had very different personalities.

This story felt very much dated. Both in terms of plot and the vocabulary and style of the author. I don't think this will have much appeal to younger readers themselves. Possibly to older (much older) audiences that seek to relive memories from their own childhoods, half a century or more ago. The author includes a lot of references to culture products like movies, animations etc. but, really, do today's 8-year-olds know who the Roadrunner is? I highly doubt that..
I always find first person narrations slightly awkward - phrases like "I scowled" or "I nodded and smiled, coasting" sound made up and pretentious. Would anyone ever talk about themselves in such a way? Let alone a child? This is not an issue solely with this particular book, however, but it's trap easy to fall into when a writer uses a first person narrator.
Finally, I did not really understand what was happening with the illustrations. They do not compliment the text, they just appear there based on a word or scene from the text that they depict in an individual item or person. There is no cohesion among them which makes me wonder if they are a work of one illustrator explicitly for this story or whether they have been found in stock photo databases over the internet.
Quite disappointing all in all I'm afraid.

Adorable book! Recommended for ages 9-12 and I would say that’s reasonable. My 6 year listened on with my 9 year old and she enjoyed it as well.

The Raspberry Race follows Jo and her friends in their every day adventures. The book teaches some important life lessons to kids, like, don’t steal your neighbour’s raspberries, but otherwise it didn’t quite do it for me. It felt more like a story a grandparent may want to read to their kids than a story kids would want to read themselves. It definitely had some good parts, but it just want the book I was looking for.

This story is a like a moment on Jo Daniel's life. It was fun and easy read. Jo is an easy-going and lively girl. If I met her in person, I will want to be her friend.
