Great book on the enneagram. I have read several but, this one is a different perspective and a perfect way to see yourself and others in the light of grace and growth. I will be recommending this book to friends for years to come.

I am a big fan of the enneagram and I honestly think it’s the best personality test out there, or at least the one that is most relatable to me. While this book doesn’t tell you your type (you can take a free test online), it gives so much insight to your type, windows, strengths, and weaknesses. I’m a 2w1, and wow… this was spot on. Sometimes I’m like “why am I like this”, well, it all makes sense when I listen to my type and window. Even though my part of the enneagram was over after the first few chapters, I listened to the entire book because I think it’s so important to be able to relate to others and find out more about your loved ones personality types.

While I think I am a strong 2, I also have a lot of 9 and 1 qualities, my husband is 100% a type 6 and it was really neat to listen to that chapter and see how it relates to him and his personality. I found myself placing other friends and family members into types the more I found out about each type. The narration on the audiobook was great, but I think I’ll buy the ebook or a hard copy because this is a book I would like to own physically and be able to reference in the future. Highly recommend.

This is my first audio book with Netgalley and I really liked it, thank you for adding them!
I had previously taken the test to find out what number I was so I was excited to hear what the author had to say. I appreciated how she has a whole chapter dedicated to each number and really goes in depth explaining what the number means. I was able to skip over many chapters that didn't relate to me, which I also liked. I'm not sure who read the book but she had a very calming voice that seemed appropriate for a self-help type book. I really enjoyed this book and will recommend it to friends who want to learn more about what number they are.

The concept is interesting. This looked to me like a self discovery journey and it seems to be applicable to external human relations. Never came across of similar concepts before.

This Enneagram reminds me very much of a horoscope.
I loved the authors voice, very calm and soothing, she made it feel like no one would ever judge you.
The book brings insight to your personality and how it can clash with others.
It also brings an insight that there is nothing wrong with your personality, but you can work to improve it so you do not clash with others.

I am still new to learning about the enneagram. From the few books I’ve read, I really enjoyed The Honest Enneagram by Sarajane Case. Listening to the audiobook was great and the author/narration flowed nicely. I plan on purchasing a print copy as well. There was so much helpful information, presented in this book and written in such a way that no trait of an enneagram number was seen as a bad or negative. That’s what I really liked about the authors approach on the enneagram.

When I stepped into this audiobook, the extent of my enneagram knowledge was pretty cursory and I was fully aware of that. I knew that I was a type 1 wing 2, and I broadly knew the qualities that type possesses/exhibits. My knowledge ended there.
Before reading Sarajane Case's book, I felt like my enneagram was sort of this box that I fit in, and understanding my type could help me understand myself better, but I had no idea that I could actively grow WITHIN my enneagram type. I didn't understand that I could reach for the "high" lines of my type and subtype (more on that soon), and recognize when I was falling towards a "low" line of it. What Sarajane's book did for me was to (rather counterintuitively) teach me that I'll never "outgrow" my enneagram type, and that's A) very much NOT the point of enneagrams, and B) a GOOD thing. The idea that "we can and should outgrow ourselves" is what causes discouragement and frustration as we work to be the very best versions of ourselves. Actively working to change my type is A) not possible and B) not the goal. Learning that the goal was embracing my growth within my type was quite the relief, as if I'd been holding a breath I didn't know I'd been holding.

If my first paragraph here isn't making it plaintively obvious that I'm a type 1 enneagram, I can now spoil the surprise for you that I'm a 1. ;) Sarajane's book also taught me that there are subtypes, mine being "social," which means I spend a lot of time worrying over how I'm being perceived and I tend to have a harsh + loud inner critical voice. It was interesting to me to hear that "1s are some of the best people you know," because to me, being a 1 has been synonymous with rigidity, inflexibility, high levels of self-inflicted pressure, a need for perfectionism, and it overall just felt like a "not very fun, highly stressed" type. Sarajane helped me see the BEST qualities in 1s, like we live honorably, we give great advice, we care about the wellbeing of others, we are consistent and reliable, and we help others want to be the best versions of themselves too. Moreover, it gave me very concrete objectives that are common ways 1s reach for that high line of their types, like picking my battles, writing down my anger on a piece of paper and throwing it away, and not nitpicking people I care about. She does this all with a very "soft landing," if you will, and I feel like her deep understanding of each enneagram personality type lets her speak directly to THAT particular audience in the way that it's going to best be taken in.

The most accurate way I can describe this reading experience is that it was like looking into a mirror, but looking into a mirror on a very good day: seeing not only what's there, but seeing ALL that is there (the best parts included), and knowing that you now have a little arsenal of tools that helps empower you to enhance that reflection over time. We all get to live with ourselves, and this book helped me understand that it's truly a "get to" instead of a "have to". I'm so glad I listened to this (*narrated by Leslie Howard), and I'm excited to follow @enneagramandcoffee with this knowledge foundation I'm now carrying around. Thanks to #netgalley for the ebook; this was truly a joy.

I read half and listened to half of this book and the audiobook was very well narrated. I do think there is some benefit to seeing some of the diagrams in the e-book/printed book but they are still well described in the audiobook.

I found this interesting overall and can "think" of people who might be examples of certain types. I enjoy her H.O.N.E.S.T philosophy and gentleness when talking about strengths and weaknesses of each type. I think I might have gotten a bit more out of this overall if I was more familiar with my own type and the Enneagram in general because it isn't a true overview, but that's my fault and not the book's fault. It certainly gave me a lot to think about and explore some of the types a bit more as I discover mine. I look forward to following the author on social media and learning more about this interesting personality typing.

A great primer on the enneagram. I have read others which I think are better, but this approach was very self-affirming. Since I listened to the entire book, it was a bit repetitive. I did like the look at sub types, since that ws new to me. The audio book narration was well done, but overall, I think this book would be better in a physical format.

The ideas shared in this book are very interesting and seem to have a lot of validity! I felt like I needed a notepad when I was listening to this, so I think I would prefer it in written form for that reason. However, it did make for a good listen during a quiet commute on my own. The format of the book is great, splitting up the personality numbers into different chapters which makes for easy manuevering if you are seeking out specific personality types. The narrator has a calming voice and reads at a comfortable speed for processing the ideas and theories shared in this book.

I have just gotten into Enneagram's after Rachel & Dave Hollis mentioned them in their online seminar. This is a great compliment to online resources. I listened to the audiobook and I am going to run out and purchase the book for reference. I think I will get much more out of it as a resource book.

I usually don't read nonfiction books, but I will be recommending this book to my friends. I had no idea about this topic when I started listening to this audiobook, and it was surprising how many areas they are to explore yourself and to get to know you in different aspects. When I started listening to this book I did a test to know which was my enneagram and to my surprise the results and each chapter were on point to really realize who I am in a different perspective. The narrator of the audiobook has a nice voice tone to explain everything in a way where you really could identify the information about yourself and not feel it hard.

As the enneagram has gained interest and traction in the last few years, I was interested in listening to this audiobook to gain more understanding of the types and classifications. Going into it, I knew there were nine different classifications, but I would hear terms like "wings" and have no background for what that meant or how those were determined.

The book is set up with nine chapters, one for each type. The chapters were formatted similarly; each began with a "bingo" list, phrases that would be familiar to that type. Then they'd expand more on the strengths and weaknesses, their tendencies at their best and worst, and advice for how to counter any drawbacks (or encouragement to explore and embrace strengths). Some of the information framing might be repetitive, but that's understandable, as I could see this being used as a resource, with individuals going immediately to their chapter if their interest is primarily in learning more about their classification instead of learning about the enneagram types overall. The narrator has a soothing voice as she delivered the information.

When I began listening, I was immediately realizing there were traits of 1s that I had in common; I had taken a test a year ago and didn't recall my results exactly, but I knew the 1 wasn't mine. I paused the audiobook to find another test to take, which determined I was a 9 (The Peacemaker), although I was also strong in 2 and 4. This entered my doubt. How could I have solid traits for a third of the enneagram types?

I continued to listen, and my experience was identical as I went along -- some types felt very familiar as she discussed various features, but I patiently continued.

And then the book was concluding with my type. The list of traits included a phrase similar to "sees themselves in all enneagram types," and I realized that this was an intentional feature of 9s, not a weakness to the enneagram system. As the chapter continued, I did agree that I am solidly a 9, so previous doubts about enneagram classifications are mollified for now.

One reason I'm rating this as a three-star read instead of higher is due to not better explaining the "wings" component, as well as not allowing a way for readers to determine their type without outside work. I consider a similar book I've gone through on personalities, and when it was purchased, it came with a unique code and instructions to go to their website to unlock the quiz. Such elaborate lengths aren't necessary, but it would be helpful for the author to recommend a website that would help those encountering this book better interact with it.

There are numerous volumes out there on the enneagram, but this can also be a welcome exposure to the different types.

(I received a digital ARC audiobook of this title from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.)

I love the Instagram account of the author (@enneagramandcoffee) and if you do too, you’ll probably enjoy this book.
This is a book for those who already know what the enneagram is and what their type is.
If you are brand new to the Enneagram, this book is not the place to start - it doesn’t explain what the enneagram is (a path of growth, not personality typing, like Myers Briggs) or how to find your type.
That said, if you want to learn more about your type than snippets from Instagram posts, this book has great descriptions of each type, with three subtypes and wings, along with a “ HONEST plan” for how to grow within and beyond your type.
I found the acronym a stretch, but the advice was generous and loving, if a bit repetitive (accepting yourself? always a good idea).
I listened to the audio book and the narrator was great, but there were several times when I think seeing it in print would have been better.

Thank you to netgalley for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Before reading this book I knew vaguely about the enneagram, and I have always been interested in personality types and the way it makes different people react in the world.

This book was very insightful to the different enneagram numbers and the subsequent personalities tied to those numbers. I would definitely suggest that you know your number before reading (or listening) to this book and it will definitely be more insightful for you.

Listening to all nine types does become a bit repetitive, but it is still good learning material and insightful.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about their personality types or others personality types and the way it makes them interact with the world.

This would definitely be better as a book than an audiobook (which is how I consumed it). There's a fun bingo game and memes that obviously lose their charm in the audio form. Also, this book should probably be read only after you are familiar with the enneagram and perhaps have even taken the test to find out your type. This book does not include a test or any information on testing. It exclusively discusses each enneagram type in depth.

With that said, I have followed Sarajane Case on Instagram for a while and love her memes and her insights into the enneagram, even if I don't always see myself in them. So I was excited to read this book as soon as I saw her releasing it.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed. I'm not sure what I expected it to be, but it felt like it could have just been published as a blog post on each enneagram type more than a book. Again, not sure what I was expecting. I have read another book on the enneagram but it wasn't before I had done much to understand it or test/type myself so I wasn't really into it. Now I've done so much research and learning on it, that this sort of felt indulgent to be an entire book. Nothing I wouldn't have already read on Instagram (and not just hers).

It doesn't dive into how to relate to other ennegram types or how to best help each other. Really it is a chapter on each type. Covering the fears, desires, subtypes, wings, strengths, weaknesses of each type plus a letter to the type listening/reading. (Again, indulgent.) There was one section for each type that broke down a little of the practical ways to better see your weaknesses and strengths as good.

I don't know, it just left me wanting. I mean, I found myself tuning out a bit on all the chapters that weren't my type or my husband's or best friend's. Because it was written "to the type" so it was almost like I was reading 8 chapters not written to me and 1 chapter that was. (Okay, 7 chapters not written to me because I identify greatly with my wing type.) So I almost didn't finish it at all. There wasn't a lot of new takeaways on the other types than mine....or really even mine. And again, this is only the second book on the enneagram that I've ever dived into. So I felt like I could have learned a lot more.

Overall: just kind of meh. But pretty. And I definitely recommend her instagram.

I enjoyed this book more than most about the Enneagram because it discusses ways in which one might best cope with one's type. As with many books, the introduction was confusing because it references attributes we have not yet read about, so I suggest reading it after you have finished reading the main body of the book. I felt more clear about my type after reading this description of the 9 personality types, yet still could inject myself into several other types. I'm sure that is true for most that try to figure out their Enneagram type, because people are complex and multi-layered. Though it would make life and relationships easier if we could simply types ourselves then set about mitigating our challenges with this knowledge, I doubt if it's the case for anyone. Still the Enneagram gives us another interesting framework within which to try to define our impulses, desires and motives, and this book is a great place to start. Thank you #NetGalley for sending me the ebook for #TheHonest Enneagram!

This book is loaded with information on the different numbers of the enneagram. The narrator has a soft and soothing voice. You can only listen to so much at a time so you can absorb the information. This is a book you will want to reference over and over. Listening for me helps me absorb the information better. Highly recommended!

I was excited for this book being previously familiar with Enneagram and Coffee and Sarajane Case through that. I think that this book is very interesting in its explanations and I love the bingo card aspect of it. However, listening to this book is difficult especially when you want to see the graphic features such as a bingo card. I think this would be great to have both a physical and audio copy of as the narration is great, it just seems like the physical copy is needed for some nuances and graphics.

I think this book is a great intro level explanation but as it does not have a test I can see where some readers have found it not useful as they struggle to discern their base motivation when they may have characteristics that align with many numbers, if you have some familiarity with enneagram this is definitely good continuation. I am enthralled by the enneagram as a 7- and my deep diving 5 in growth is all about picking up all of the resources that I can.

A good read- I would recommend it, but preferably in a physical copy.

The narrator has such a soothing, calming voice. She does a very good job at describing all the types and wings of the enneagram. She gives you list to make and follow and encourages you to really look into your type. I loved listening to her and learnt a lot about my enneagram type. Highly recommended you take the time to find a quiet place to sit and even take some notes.
