I have read two other enneagram books and find the subject fascinating. The chapter on my type (2) really resonated with me. I recognized myself in many of the descriptions and behaviors she included. As for the "honest" portion of the title, it rings true. I found myself shocked at times, thinking "do I really do that?!" and almost defensive at others. "Ulterior motives?! Pssh!" It was a really enjoyable read even if you already have some enneagram knowledge.

If you follow Enneagram and Coffee on Instagram, you will recognize the author Sarajane Case. The book is thorough and can help guide you to the right type if you are uncertain where you fit after testing. It's not an Enneagram 101 book. There is no test included, so you're on your own to find your time. It dives deeper into the features and traits of each type to help you understand your own feelings and reactions and how to moderate or adjust your behavior within the confines of your type.

This is the first audiobook I have received for review from Netgalley. Narrator Leslie Howard has a calm and soothing voice and her reading nicely paced. The only issue I had is that audio is not the ideal format for this book. The reader is likely to want to flip around in the book or use it for future reference. A hard copy or ebook would probably be a better choice, perhaps with the audiobook as a supplement. It is a pleasant listen.

The Honest Enneagram is the perfect book for anyone who has been curious about the enneagram, but has never taken the plunge to learn about it before. I fell solidly into this category, vaguely wondering what my type might be and not realizing how this could be utilized to learn more about myself and others. This guide is very knowledgeable, it clearly explains why and how the enneagram can be used as a tool. Covering all of the types, the book presents the strengths and weaknesses in each. However, the book is clear that thinking about the enneagram is in no way a binary process and instead provides a space to engage in honest self-reflection.

After the initial introduction, each chapter is devoted to a specific type with intricate details and information about self-care and growth. Even if you have already identified which type you are, it is still very interesting to hear about the other types. I found myself reflecting that for each type described, I could picture people who fit the criteria. In between, there are fun lists of activities such as the types “going to the amusement park" or "getting a tattoo.” In addition to learning more about the enneagram, the consistent focus on growth and actionable items provides a tangible way to assist in contemplation. I listened to the audiobook and found the narration to be well-paced. The narrator’s tone was encouraging and pleasant to listen to. The Honest Enneagram is available now. Thank you to Sarajane Case, Andrews McMeel Audio, and Netgalley for a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The Honest Enneagram - Know Your Type, Own Your Challenges, Embrace Your Growth // by Sarajane Case

From the NetGalley description: "Find a way to bring out the best in yourself with this heartfelt, informative, and approachable guide to all things Enneagram."

The Honest Enneagram is a self-help book that is based on a model of the human psyche called the Enneagram of Personality. The system consists of nine interconnected personality types that are split into three smaller groups: the Instinctive Center, the Feeling Center, and the Thinking Center. In this book, Case explains the positive aspects of each Enneagram type and how you can use them to your advantage in your personal growth and everyday life.

I am going to be honest and admit that I either was not the right audience for this book or just did not consume it in the correct format. I listened to it as an audiobook but think that I would have been able to get more out of it if I had read a physical copy instead. I am not very well versed in personality typing in general but know even less about Enneagrams. I was hoping this book would be educational for me but seeing as I do not even know my own Enneagram type, there was a lot of information to absorb at once and trying to figure out my type at the same time. I really enjoyed the narrator very much and think she did a great job for this topic but I would have been able to retain more information if I had been able to go at my own pace, flip back and forth between chapters, and take notes in the book as I go. I do have to say that I enjoyed the type bingo at the beginning of each chapter and how the author explains how each type affects the different parts of our lives. Overall, if you have at least a basic knowledge of each type and what yours is, then this will be a great listen. But for someone like me, a physical copy would be better.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

A very short, sweet book about each Enneagram type.

Many of the chapters are descriptions of that type explained in a positive, helpful way.

As someone new to Enneagram I found this book extremely helpful in understanding the various types. I would not recommend this to someone who is an expert, but for someone who is new it was wonderful and inspiring.

I found it made me want to learn more about Enneagram and how I can use knowledge of it to help me with myself and relationships. The book is not long.

The voice was very pleasing and soothing to listen to on audiobook.

I received an ARC as a reader for NetGalley.

I love anything and everything enneagram. I’ve followed Sarajane’s enneagram instagram from the beginning, so I thought I might already pretty much know everything she mentions in the book, but I was pleasantly surprised!

I love how she focuses on positive language and really amps up the strengths of each number, since we all tend to resonate more with the negative aspects of our numbers. This book stands out because she doesn’t just describe the type and leave it be - she goes one step further and recommends specific ways each type can grow and even recommends activities to help strengthen the positive aspects of your number.

I really enjoyed the book, the narrator just sounded too robotic to me. I also think from the descriptions at the beginning of each chapter that this book probably would’ve been better to a read as a physical copy (enneagram number bingos, etc)

I listened to The Honest Enneagram on audio. I absolutely loved the voice, she was perfect for this book. The book is the first I’ve ever heard of the enneagram, and it’s very interesting. So this book is perfect for new and old to the enneagram. I listened to this book from beginning to end and never wanted it to end. It is very informative. I would definitely recommend. :) happy reading.

This is an extremely helpful book! I recommend taking a test first, in order to find your personality type (there are nine), and than listen/read the book and understand your type a bit better. The test I took had a duration of 10 minutes. This book is very practical, the author explains everything really well. Regarding the audiobook, the person's voice was soothing and paused, which helped to understand everything a little better. Rating: 5/5 stars.

I have mixed emotions about The Honest Enneagram. Conceptually, I like the HONEST method as it provides good framework for working with the Enneagram once you have determined your type. I feel like the explanations for the 9 types falls short if your goal is to determine your type. They feel more like stereotypes than an explanation of the types’ characteristics or traits. I appreciate the author’s explanations of sub-types and wings and have a better understanding from her explanations than I have from other sources. If you want to understand the general concept of the Enneagram, you will enjoy this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Audio for an ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review. #thehonestenneagram #sarajanecase #netgalley #andrewmcmeelpublishing

I was eager to listen to the audiobook of <i>The Honest Enneagram</i> when I found it available for download and review (thanks to the publisher) on NetGalley.  I have always found the Enneagram Personality Type system -- with its particular philosophies about the nature of individual psychology, which can point the way to paths to personal growth, very interesting.  Like other Enneagram sources with which I'm familiar, this book similarly presents the essential qualities of each of the nine types, as well as the modifying factors (instinctual type, wing, etc.) that distinguish further among personalities in each type category. In each chapter, Sarajane Case sets forth particular insights about the possible strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities for development associated with each type. One strength of her characterization of the types is the sympathy she explicitly shows for people in each category in facing their particular hurdles to self-improvement and harmonious relationships with each other. Every type description seems like a relatable human being, and Case is very careful to make sure her advice is framed in an empowering way. Everything about the presentation of each type is calculated to help the reader embrace him or herself without shame or reservation. Case entices the reader to embrace the particular qualities and associated advice in a shame-free, self-affirming way so she can employ the insights in a pro-active, optimal manner. One weakness of this book's approach is that reality is somewhat sugarcoated. That is, there seems to be the implicit assumption throughout the book that if the reader achieves optimal self-development, relatively positive outcomes can be expected to result. My experience of this world is that chances of positive outcomes can be enhanced but not controlled in this life. People do not always treat one another according to one's merits, etc. This does not detract from the utility of the book's advice insofar as it goes, but in failing to pay so much as lip service anywhere to life's unfairness the book loses something in the way of gravitas. Overall, I would recommend this read to anyone seeking to gain a basic familiarity with this personality type system.

This book got me into the idea of the enneagram, which is awesome. Its description of the different types didn't appeal to me as much as other sources I looked at.

I heard Sarajane Case on a podcast so I was very excited to see that The Honest Enneagram was available on Net Galley as an audiobook. I appreciated the way Sarajane used what she calls the “H.O.N.E.S.T” approach to give each Enneagram type ways to honor their strengths while being open to improving their weaknesses. I also loved her different examples of each of the enneagram types in various situations, like at an amusement park or getting a tattoo.

I did not love the repetitiveness in wording and phrases between each type. For example, in the “S” section of each type (which stands for Soften Your Path), she starts each one with “OK, so we’ve established what makes you amazing. (Way to go, by the way!). If you are only reading/listening to one type it’s no big deal. But I wanted to learn more about every type so it became super repetitive.

Overall I would recommend this book to anyone just learning about the enneagram and those who want a different approach to learning about it.

As soon as I finished this audiobook, I instantly followed the author on Instagram. While I’m really new to the world of Enneagrams, I know my type and really enjoyed the honest but soft feedback that she provided for my type. Instead of focusing on negatives of the types, she instead showed how to grow and develop for yourself, not for others. I would highly recommend this to anyone, no matter what step they are on their Enneagram journey.

Do you know your enneagram number? Here was me before listening to The Honest Enneagram: Influencers would post their enneagram type, then I'd click on the instagram handle to look for my type and I'd choose whatever type fit my mood at that time. Why would I do this? Because I have taken the enneagram test approximately 5 times. All of those times I took it during teacher retreat days to see which teacher group we would work better with or at night while watching Schitt's Creek. Knowing my enneagram never benefited me because it wasn't a true representation of me but more of how I was feeling at that specific moment...which I'm not going to lie...it fluctuates a lot! I am a one woman circus.

This book is not a test to find out your enneagram. You either know your enneagram type already or you read this book to explore the 9 types. After listening to The Honest Enneagram I understood the reasoning behind this personality system. With an open mind I started listening to Sarajane explain with detail each one of the 9 types of enneagrams, the good, the b....she never says bad.. The author is very positive and offers ways to work on the negative aspects of your type. After listening to all enneagrams I was able to determine which type I am.

Narration: I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The narrator is heartwarming so you can listen to this while you are taking a bath or meditating. The pace is excellent if you want to take notes too.

This is a fun, interesting, short book to explore more about enneagrams.

SaraJane! This book is amazing. I have read a lot enneagram books and none of them felt more opening and understandable. For anyone that is just getting into their enneagram journey this would be my recommended starting point.
I have been a follower of @enneagramandcoffee for years and I think this is a good summation of all the light and life that her account exudes.

I will say with the audiobook quality, I listened to it at 2x speed and it sounded quite echo-y. But I truly loved the content.

I have done the tiniest bit of research into Enneagram before listening to this book, enough to be confused. Sarajane's take is relatable and easy to understand, you could easily just listen to your type, but I encourage you to listen to each one for valuable insight. You might even be convinced that you have not been assigned the right type.

The idea behind The Honest Enneagram is great: an honest look on each enneagram type -- what makes them tick, what are their strengths and their weaknesses. I picked this up because I have heard about these enneagram types but I have no idea what they are, or what they mean. After I hit play, I then realize this book would probably be better read than listened to.

For some reason, the narrator sounded too serene and slow. Some people might appreciate it, I however don't. My interest in the topic kept on waning the longer I listened to the narration.

I would love to read this book again but on a text format.

I like this book. I think it can be a good tool for you if you are interested in the enneagram. I would say that this book is not for people who know nothing about the enneagram going into it. It is a good next step after you have some basic knowledge. I really like her approach to health and stress in relation to the enneagram. I also really enjoy that the author seems to really love each enneagram type for who they are.

I recommend you get this book in print vs on audio. I did not enjoy the narrator’s tone. In fact, I found it very annoying. I also think it’ll be easier to reference and understand all the information contained in this one in print.

The Honest Enneagram is a very informative and interesting book about the Enneagram. This goes through all nine Enneagram types. The Honest Enneagram discusses the benefits of each Enneagram type and also says how you can overcome the weaker aspects of your personality. The book also discusses how each Enneagram type effects relationships. I really enjoyed this book.

I took an Enneagram test a few months ago and got pretty into finding out about Enneagram. This book has encouraged me to study Ennegram even more.

Leslie Howard did a great job narrating. It felt like a concerned friend was talking to me.

Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Audio for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The Honest Enneagram is not suited for an audiobook. It gives good detail about each of the types and their tendencies - far better than any other text I've read. But as an audiobook, it sounds like a disjointed list. It's difficult to keep them all attached to each type. Especially when it starts to go into how the type responds at its best and its worst when it refers to other types you haven't even heard yet. I would recommend reading the book instead of listening.
