The Anne of Green Gables Devotional: A Chapter-by-Chapter Companion for Kindred Spirits by Rachel Dodge does well connecting the reading to the theme of faithfulness and the Love of God. This is a perfect combination of what I want and what I need. The author and I must be kindred spirits. It is a fantastic 40-day devotional with beautiful artwork and various readings including scripture, the novel, prayers, life application, and questions to discuss. It is a nice combination of devotionals and Anne with her family as they bond.

This devotional is absolutely precious. Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorite books, and Rachel did an amazing job writing this corresponding devotional.

This book is a forty day devotional that follows Anne of Green Gables chapter by chapter. Each day would open up with a brief summary of what happened in the corresponding chapter, and then relate it back to a principle from the Bible. If I'm quite honest, I was a little skeptical about how well this could be done since - aside from mentions of church - Anne of Green Gables isn't an explicitly Christian book. Rachel did an incredible job making everything fit together seamlessly, and it simultaneously made me think about the Bible and Anne's story in a deeper way. The day ends with a section on practical application and a prayer. My favorite part of this book, though, were the sketches that were at the beginning of each chapter. They were so beautiful, and really brought the story to life.

The whole time I was reading this, I kept thinking how sweet it would be for a mom and daughter to do it together and/or with a group. The devotions were deep enough so that they impacted my life, but also straightforward enough that children could appreciate them as well. Plus, with the chapter summaries at the beginning, it was easy to follow along with the story even though I haven't re-read Anne of Green Gables in a few years.

My sole complaint is that there were a lot of direct quotes from Anne of Green Gables, so at times it took me back to my days of writing literary analysis papers. Overall, though, it was excellently done, and I would highly recommend it to all of my fellow fans of Anne of Green Gables.

The Anne of Green Gables Devotional is the perfect companion to the classic book by L. M. Montgomery. If you are an Anne fan, you will love this book. The author has written devotionals to go along with each chapter of Anne's story. If it's been awhile since you've read the original book, you will revisit wonderful memories. Or if it's your first time visiting Anne's world, you will be delighted and refreshed. This can be read alone as well, but for the full experience, I would recommend reading the devotional together with the classic. This is also such a beautiful book and would be a perfect gift idea. I hope to read more devotionals by this author that go along with the other books in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

The Anne of Green Gables Devotional is a sweet look at how the gospel plays out within the pages of the novel Anne of Green Gables. Each day has an easy-to-read devotional based on a chapter of the book, matched with a scripture and a prayer. I enjoyed reading, and could definitely see going through this devotional in the future when I read this book series with my daughter. I would definitely say this devotional is geared towards a younger crowd (maybe middle grade to young adults).

One of my favorite new devotionals that I have read lately. I must obtain a physical copy for myself and will probably purchase several for gifts. If you love Anne of Green Gables, you will love this devotional. It is full of great Bible Verses throughout and is just a delightful read. Very uplifting and a simple joy to read. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The Anne of Green Gables Devotional: A Chapter-by-chapter Companion for Kindred Spirits
by Rachel Dodge

I loved reading Anne of Green Gables growing up and love the TV movies (with Meghan Follows as Anne) today. So, this Anne of Green Gables devotional is a great addition to my library. The artwork is adorable and each day follows a portion from the Anne of Green Gables book. This is a unique devotional in the way it is presented...from Day 1: A Divine Detour to Day 40: The Story of Anne’s Birth and The World According to Anne Shirley: A Glossary. It includes scripture verses, personal applications and a prayer(s) at the end of each day and discussion questions.

~I received an e-book copy from the author/publisher via NetGalley (no monetary gain were exchanged), this is my honest review~

Anne of Green Gables is such a well-known children’s story and with reason. There are humor, hope, pathos, love, acceptance for mistakes, friendship, growth and more in the pages of this story of the red headed orphan who finds a home with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. Using the novel as her jumping off point, Rachel Dodge has written a devotional that takes inspiration from the book, looking to the meaning that can be taken from the story’s events.

This title is a Christian one but, I think, can be enjoyed by non-Christians as well. Take a few minutes now and then to read and think about one o the entries in this nicely illustrated title.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

I love Anne and I love the work of Lucy, so I just read this book because I was curious.

First, I'm not a believer, I'm not catholic or something like that. I don't believe in anything supreme or mystic, so I just wanted to know what's about this story and why the author choose to do what she does.

Second, I'm not against this type of thing, the author was respectful to the work of Lucy, but I can't stop to thinking that maybe she could stop doing this (I saw that she do the same with other books) and write her own books, but I want to know that I understand why she does it.

It's an interest approach to the work of Lucy, but it's not an ultimatum, just a POV.
If you're curious, I promise to u that this is a very... interesting travel, just keep respectful to the work of both author and respect their believing.
It's very important to me to be sure that the author and their readers know that this is not the last work or the last words of Lucy, this is not Anne, this is just an interpretation.
But, If you can't be respectful, just don't read it.
Anyway, It was interesting, very. But I love Anne, very much, I love Lucy, and I would never believe that this was what she meant when she writes Anne the first time. It's what I believe.

Thanks to NetGalley for the earc.

This is a fantastic read, evidently written by someone in love both with the Word and with Anne of Green Gables. Perfect for fans of the books and movies alike (or newbies to either/both)!

I read a handful of the Anne books growing up, but don't remember a thing about them. Picking this book up prompted me to restart the series (as it's encouraged to read both alongside each other), and oh my. I love both! Definitely recommended as you're able or have interest. (It also goes to show just how perfect casting was in the Megan Follows iteration. But I digress, as I'm not here to discuss Gilbert's swoonworthiness ... ahem.)

The devotional lends a new depth to the Anne book that I thoroughly appreciate. Dodge draws parallels I would not have thought of and thoroughly appreciate. I also really enjoy the personal application and included prayer--very thoughtful, and often convicting.

The artwork in the final version is, I'm sure, delightful; I read the eARC on my Kindle Oasis, so formatting was somewhat wonky (though to be expected). I'm excited to see "the real thing"!

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Anne of Green Gables has always been one of my favorite reads and the movie is actually amazing as well. Imagine my surprise and delight to see this new book being offered up for review. I knew immediately that I had to get my hands on a copy.

This is a 40-day devotional book. You can read one each day or spread them out to once a week. Whichever you want to do. Personally, I might have just read the whole book through like a novel and then gone back and read one devotional entry per day after that. In my defence, I was very excited about this new book! It was like getting to see a friend that you’ve been separated from for years.

First, this book is gorgeous. Just look at that cover. Second, it really did not disappoint. I got to read scenes from the book but also Bible verses and a devotional. There is also a section that applies the devotional and verse to life.

In the back of the book, there is an Anne glossary, an author’s note, and also discussion questions. This would make a great group devotional if you wanted to get together with friends to read and discuss the entries.

I have to say that I highly recommend The Anne of Green Gables Devotional and I also am going to be keeping my copy on my shelf for years to come. This would be a great one to pass down to your children.

If you are a fan of Anne of Green Gables, you will enjoy reading the devotional along with the Anne. Each day includes a quote from the book, a scripture tie-in, application questions, and a prayer. A glossary related to the story quotes and a bibliography are included.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this devotional! I loved that there was a devotional for each chapter of the Anne of Green Gables book. The devo points us to the character and working of God as revealed in the story of Anne. Each devo contains an analysis of the Anne chapter, Scripture supporting the analysis and character of God, as well as personal application, further Scriptures to read, and a suggested prayer. In the back of the book are discussion questions. I wish they had been at the end of each chapter, as it was cumbersome to flip back and forth, especially in the digital version.

Any Anne fan will love this chance to dive further into the theology of the original Anne book.

I gratefully received a free ARC digital copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion.

I have loved Anne of Green Gables since I read the books back in elementary school. My love for Anne increased when the movies staring Megan Follows, as Anne, came out in the mid 80's.

So, when I saw The Anne of Green Gables Devotional; A Chapter-by-Chapter Companion for Kindred Spirits I knew I wanted to read it.

Rachel Dodge has done a beautiful job of combining each chapter of the book along with scripture to create a lovely, and treasured devotional.

The illustrations are beautiful and fit perfectly with the devotional.

Any Anne fan would love this book. I know I will treasure it.

There is beauty in taking something we all love and know and turning it into something unique and special. The Anne of Green Gables Devotional helped me see the story of Anne Shirley in a whole different light and It took a beloved story and showed me the face of the Lord in its characters that come to life through God’s word.

Rachel Dodge has thought of everything in this darling book and I feel blessed to have had the privilege to begin making these devotions part of my everyday. Rachels opening letter shows you just how God was a part of Anne Shirley’s life and this book and how in all of her quirkiness she was accepted for who she was, even if she exasperated Marilla and Matthew at times.

This book has everything in it for spending quality time in God’s word, with snippets from Green Gable books, bible verses, ways to personally apply what you have learnt into your life and a prayer. It is not only great for the new christian for guidance but is also a point of difference for someone that has been a child of God for many years. There is a comfort that comes from the words and great reminders of God’s love throughout.
What I find most endearing about this book and its author is that at the heart of it all is not only Rachel’s love of literature and Anne Shirley, but her acknowledgement of Jesus and her love for him moves me the most. Her devotion to God and love of community makes me feel like I have really found a kindred spirit.

Another heartwarming book! I love Anne of Green Gables, and Dodge's sweet devotional ties this series into the rhythm of every day life. Dodge weaves characters from the beloved books in with Scripture and subject matter that we could all learn a little from. Great gift idea for any Green Gables fan!

I wanted to read something completely out of the ordinary. That’s why I thought I’d try a book about devotions, a genre I’m definitely not the target of. What convinced me was the fact that it was based on the famous children’s book: Anne of Green Gables, a classic I still haven’t read, but plan to. So it appeared as an intriguing yet relevant introduction, especially because of the chapter-by-chapter format. Overall, i’s an interesting read and I feel like I’ll start reading the actual novel with a better understanding now. There were just some glitches with the illustrations that didn’t display properly in Kindle, and missing letters in the introductory quotes at the beginning of each chapter.

For lovers of Anne of Green Gables this will be a great buy. The devotional follows the story of Anne with each day covering part of the story and bringing out life lessons. I found the devotional very helpful as we follow Annes life and also have practical ways to put the ideas into our lives. For anyone who loves Anne of Green Gables this would be a wonderful present. It is well written and practical.
The author brings out life lessons from each chapter. Even if you have never read Anne of Green Gables but only seen the mini series you will find you can follow this devotional.
