A wonderful version of a classic story. I hope this version inspires more people to read and enjoy the story of Anne. In many says, Anne represents the classic child trying to find their way in life. The manga is a great way to enjoy the story.

I’ve always loved Anne of Green Gables, and this manga adaptation stays remarkably faithful to Montgomery’s classic, hitting every key plot beat without losing its heart. The expressive artwork brings Anne’s imagination and emotions vividly to life. Marilla’s quiet strength, Matthew’s gentle warmth, and Gilbert’s teasing charm all shine through in just a few panels. It’s a delightful gateway for manga fans and a refreshing revisit for longtime Anne enthusiasts.

I just finished reading Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables and my heart is full!
This adaptation captures Anne Shirley’s charm, imagination, and dramatic flair perfectly. The artwork is soft and whimsical, and the story stays true to L.M. Montgomery’s classic.
A lovely intro to Anne for new readers and a nostalgic treat for longtime fans.
Thank you to NetGalley and Manga Classics for the digital ARC!

This manga does a great job of bringing a beloved classic to life with its beautiful art! A must read for fans of Anne of Green Gables or a young reader interested in entering the beautiful world of Anne of Green Gables.

Unfortunately I soft dnfed this one I didn't have the time with all my exams but I also just was not in this kind of middle grade classic mood. This is by no means a sign that this is bad or anything like that it just wasn't for me at that time, I definitely will come back to it within the year and give it a read when I am ACTUALLY in the right mood for it.

A charming book such as this deserves a special note of recognition. The classic Anne of Green Gables is such a beloved classic and a staple for generations of young girls expertly crafting their reading credentials. While it was a new encounter to read this literary classic in Manga format, the author Crystal Chan and illustrator Kuma Chan showed much respect in their artistic retelling.
The characters show the author's and illustrator's respect for the original characters from their expressive interactions through artful storytelling to their innovative thoughts and emotions and lines of dialogue. Each story panel throughout this lengthy novel tells a part of the story. The characters show genuine empathy and warmth toward each other. Friendship is prominently enforced as one of the key virtues highlighted to young readers with impressionable minds.

Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, adapted by Crystal S. Chan and illustrated by Kuma Chan, is a vibrant and engaging manga adaptation of the beloved classic. The story follows Anne Shirley, an imaginative and spirited orphan who finds a new home at Green Gables. The manga format brings a fresh, dynamic twist to the familiar tale, with beautiful illustrations that capture the charm and emotion of the original novel. It's a perfect choice for fans of manga and those looking to experience the timeless story of Anne in a new way.

4.5 This manga adaptation turned out to be so well done. Anne of Green Gables is one of my grandmother’s favorite books along with Heidi.
Growing up both the movies and books were a large part of my time with my grandmother so I was looking forward to seeing how well this was done. This manga adaption captures a lot of of the feeling and nostalgia that the originals provided.
As with any adaption, creators have to pick and choose what best to present. I think Crystal Chan did such a good job here choosing what scenes to highlight. While, it’s not the exactly the same as reading the actual book, it definitely gives the tone and the course story of Anne of Green Gables and can be read in an hour or two.
I really appreciated how the state of the original author approved of this adaption and it’s an official retailing. I also really appreciated the authors and notes so readers knew what choices went into this creation

I love "Anne of Green Gables" and when I had a friend recommend this ARC, I jumped on board. I think that this is a beautiful adaptation of this in manga. I would say that it is accurate to L.M. Montgomery's original. The art in is is exquisite and even with it being black and white. Additionally, Anne herself is depicted beautifully with all of her range of emotions and inner speech. I will recommend it to my students and friends who love classics and Manga. Thank you so much Manga Classics Inc. and Netgalley for the ARC.

"If I had been the boy you sent for, I'd be able to help you so much now and spare you in a hundred ways. I could find it in my heart to wish I had been, just for that." "Well, now I'd rather have you than a dozen boys, Anne."
Chan and the creative team did such a phenomenal job with this manga adaptation. I remember falling in love with the 1908 novel in high school (desperately need a reread), and was so excited to request a Manga Classic of it. And my childlike excitement was not in vain.
One of the possible outcomes of a manga is a poor execution, and especially of a complex plotline. Despite often considered a children's classic, Anne of Green Gables is a complex story due to the deep and minor character development, subtle social commentary of feminism and gender roles, and exploration of difficult themes like pain of rejection, abandonment, and loss of parents. And they did such a wonderful job by incorporating the original dialogue, and staying faithful to the original whilst capturing the emotions with illustrations. Truthfully, I teared up.
Towards the end of the manga, Chan describes the process, love, and thought that was put into this adaptation. With the Green Gables House being immensely important, the team did an extensive research in order to recreate the layout and floor plans. Even the artwork wasn't an afterthought. Chan then proceeds to share her experiences with the creative process: finding the direction, setting the focus, processing the details with utilizing manga's strengths to incorporate the feminism, and planting a little Easter Egg from her manga adaptation, A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Just like the 1908 novel, this Manga Classic will charm people of all ages. How amazing that your grandmother's favorite book is now adapted to another genre.
Many, many thanks to NetGalley, Udon Entertainment, and Chan for this auto-approved eBook. Kudos on this magnificent project, I cannot wait to reread.

I confess, I was EXTREMELY apprehensive about this one, as this is a story that is very near and dear to my heart for many reasons.
However, I found it to be a faithful adaptation of the original, with lovely illustrations. My ONE tiny complaint is that I hate the character design for Gilbert Blythe, but it's too minor of an issue to dock points for.
Netgalley graciously provided me with an advanced copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

I have never read the classic, Anne of Green Gables, so I can not say how true to the original this manga adaptation is. But, this does make me want to go and read it! The story was easy to follow and each character played such an important role in understanding the storyline.
The illustrations were amazing and I can not wait to see the finished product in full color (if it will be in color). A job well done! Anne was absolutely adorable.
I will be purchasing this book for my library when it becomes available for my students to read.
Thank you, NetGalley and Manga Classics Inc for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley, Udon Publishing and Erin Chan for a chance to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
My first manga! So note that this is not a manga SME review. This is more of an impression of manga as compared with a beloved book. THIS WAS LOVELY. What a fun way to receive LM Montgomery's work. Both as a "re-read" and a new way to introduce her work to others. The art and dialogue conveyed so much of Anne, Marilla and Matthew's personalities. It was SO true to the original text. I will definitely return to manga for other retellings and more!

I love the original novel, buy thoroughly enjoyed the manga version even more. The drawings really helped me understand what was going on! I highly recommend it!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this opportunity.
Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favorite books, so when I saw the manga version on Netgalley, I had to request it. I loved the art style. I'm a normal reader of manga, so seeing one of my favorite books in the manga art style was really cool; I definitely want to check out some of the other Manga Classics. I also loved what the author talked about in her author's note where she said that they added in where you can see the thoughts of the characters in the scenes, so that you get more depth to the characters.
The only thing I didn't really like was how rushed the story started to feel at about the 60ish% mark. I feel like the beginning had more time dedicated to it, and then we really skimmed over some good parts (the author kind of explains this in the author's note, but I still wasn't the biggest fan). I'll definitely still be picking up a copy of this version to add to my collection of Anne of Green Gables books.

A cute adaptation of one of my favourite classics ! Not quite sure a lot of the characters look how I envision them but that’s something that’s individual to each reader of course ! I loved Anne and Diana ! Would definitely pick this up if I saw it in a store but won’t be going out of my way to find it

So far I have really enjoyed the manga classics collection! This was a nice lighthearted read. I have never read Anne of Green Gables before, so I'm not sure how well it was adapted. I think the manga was very well organized with just snippets of time in Anne's life. It is insane to me how much time was passed within the whole book. While I know manga is traditionally in black and white, I think it would have been cool to be in color for this one.

4.5 Stars
This was my first manga classic and I really enjoyed it. I’m a such for Anne of Green Gables adaptations (I love the show Anne with an E) so when I saw there was a manga adaptation I knew I had to read it.
The overall story was very faithful to the original, but the manga format gave the story a fresh take. The art was super cute also.
Thank you to Netgalley and Udon Entertainment for giving me a digital ARC I’m exchange for an honest review!

A HUGE thank you to @netgalley and @udonent for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
💭 My Thoughts
This book was an amazing adaptation of the classic tale. The team behind this book did a wonderful job capturing the essence and emotion of the story. I really liked the amount of quotes taken from the original book by L. M. Montgomery. The art was GORGEOUS!! I especially liked the character designs, which felt very true to the story. The only thing I wish was different was that some of the plot points were more fleshed out towards the end (though it’s understandable why it was shortened).
I would recommend this book to any reader who has dared to dream big and live life loudly.
