Reading this was such a trip down memory lane for me as I read the original novels and watched the movies back in middle school. This manga goes through every chapter of the book so it’s a very faithful adaptation. Despite that, the pacing surprisingly never felt off. Dialogue and scenes had to be cut to fit the story into a manga format, but the story still flowed well. Seeing some of my favourite scenes as a kid, like when Anne hit Gilbert’s head with a chalkboard or when Anne got Diana drunk, actually brought some of the same feelings of enjoyment as when I read the novels. That alone makes this an amazing adaptation!

In terms of the art, I love how closely it stuck to the details of the characters and location, especially the portrayal of Anne, Marilla and Matthew. They look just like how I’d picture them! I do think they could have made Gilbert cuter, but that's probably because nothing could live up to the handsomeness of Jonathan Crombie.

Overall, this is a really good introduction to the series for anyone who hasn’t read the books, seen the movies or seen the TV show, but it’s also very enjoyable for fans of the series! So anyone can and should read this if they’re interested in reading the original story of Anne of Green Gables, but don't want to read through a novel. It would also be good for getting kids into the series who aren't huge readers.

Bello, bello. Lo amé.

I just love it. As a fan of Anne I was a little afraid that the adaptation wasn't enough but, guess what, Its just perfect. The best thing is that If you never read Anne of Green Gables before it didn't matter because this is a great adaptation. You would enjoy rather is the book or the manga, of course I recommend reading the book just because the manga left behind some thoughts of the characters.
Anyways, its beautiful, stunning and perfect.

To begin with, thank Netgalley for allowing me to read this manga based on the novel by Anne of Green Gables.
I had not read the book yet and after reading the manga he called me to read that version. I had certain notions of what the story was about, but I was not entirely sure if it would be my type of story, and well I ended up enchanted, a wonderful story with unique characters and although it is short we can see its evolution, it is appreciated that not They are perfect who, like everyone, have defects, make mistakes but are willing to improve.
I loved the story, it is simple but it delivers so many values, it leaves you with a beautiful feeling, the drawing is beautiful, the expressions that the characters have in certain circumstances are unique and the detail of the landscapes or the costumes of the time is not lost.
I feel that this manga is ideal for the little ones so that they can start reading without it being heavy.
For me it deserves 5 stars out of 5.

To this day I still love the Anne of Green Gables story, so when I got an opportunity to read the Manga version of my favorite childhood book, I was more then excited to dive into it. And I am so happy to report that the Manga version did not disappoint! I loved the illustrations and I would have loved them even more if they were full of color, same as the book's cover.

This version of the classic is a perfect way to read a classic novel in a fun and easy way, and I will definitely buy a copy of this book for my 10-years old daughter who loves graphic novels. Reading this book was a wonderful way to go back to my childhood days and re-discover Anne Shirley's world all over again.

Thank you NetGalley and Manga Classics Inc. for providing me with an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Anna of Green Gables is one of those stories that seem to get on really weel into being adapted in a manga version. Anna's bubbly personality is perfectly represented by the vivacity of the actions in the panels. The first part of the manga is a nice introduction to the story to find old friends or discover new faces for who isn't familiar with the original version, the second part gets a bit more fragmented, losing fluidity in the narration.

This is a truly delightful version of the classic story about Anne with an 'e'.

Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, having decided to adopt a orphaned boy, are really surprised when Anne Shirley arrives. Imaginative, bold, whimsical and funny, this young orphan endears herself to the brother and sister. As Anne's new life in Green Gables unfolds the reader is treated to a beautiful story of new life, new friends and new adventures. It is an engaging and joy filled classic and here it is beautifully told in manga format.

This is an excellent version with drawings that are skilful, clear and engaging. The artwork tells the story in such a way that the reader is pulled into the world of Anne and her ups and downs. I have read quite a few manga classics and I think they are really great versions of classic tales but I think this book is one of the best manga classics I have come across so far.

Anne of Green Gables (Manga Classics) art by Kuma Chan, 308 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Udon Entertainment, 2020. $20.
Language: G (0 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: G; Violence: G
BUYING ADVISORY: MS, HS - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
When Marilla and Matthew thought about adopting a child, they decided a boy would be best so that Matthew would have some help in the fields. Instead, they get 11-year-old Anne Shirley, a girl with a big heart and an even bigger imagination. Marilla tries to return Anne and get a boy, but Marilla can’t leave Anne back at the asylum. Maybe Green Gables needs a little girl after all.
Spanning several years, the story of Anne Shirley is hard to condense. The last few years fly by in this manga version, getting only a couple chapters each. Instead of focusing on the school work and classmates in the last few years of Anne’s story, this manga highlights the relationships Anne develops with her guardians and her first friend, primarily in her younger years. I love the emphasis on the relationships closest to Anne as her character develops through adolescence. The Udon team captures Anne’s vibrancy through this manga format, which is sure to please old and new fans of Anne.

This was my first venture into manga, and it was very fun to read. I greatly enjoyed the formatting, especially the bonus sections with character introductions, reading instructions, and the like.

I enjoyed reading Anne of Green Gables as a child and couldn’t resist how adorable Anne appeared on the cover. This is a very faithful adaptation that honors the classic story.

I was hooked from the beginning, following along as Anne matured and became more comfortable in her own skin. This is a very wholesome story that is suitable for all ages. Anne’s wild and imaginative personality never gets boring!

4.5 out of 5 stars!

When the Cuthbert siblings wanted to adopt a young child to help them at their homestead, through some miscommunication they ended up with an orphaned girl named Anne Shirley. This precarious girl took hold within their hearts, and this is Anne's story told in graphic novel (or manga) form.

I enjoyed this book because it brought the classic in manga form. Brimming with childhood remembrance of reading the book, I liked the art form, even with no colors within the pages. I did find a tiny bit of grammar confusion, but otherwise the translation is understandable. I also found it weird that some chapters were just not enough in conveying the actions that took place in those chapters. I understand that the focus is on certain events, but it would be better if a bit more pages were added to those chapters to bring it to life.

Overall, I find this book a nice translation to the classic. I definitely recommend this manga as an addendum to the classic to help convey certain events in the book in picture form. For the collectors out there, this is a wonderful addition to the series.

4 stars.

I'd never read Anne of Green Gables before so I was quite interested in reading this after much success with Jane Eyre Manga Classic, and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. This was a wonderful way to tell the story as it was enjoyable and felt really well suited to the manga style. I would highly recommend this for a beginner or even those who have read the story over and over.

I was given an advanced digital copy from NetGalley.

I have not read the source material, however I have watched some television and movie adaptations, so I cannot speak to how true it is to the source material.

I enjoyed this manga, it subtly showed a passage of time through the children growing that I did not really notice upon first reading, but as Anne grows older, her character art does mature. This is something that is unique to graphic novel or manga adaptations as you cannot actually age an actor in a film adaptation, so it shows a different nuanced element that can't be done in other adaptations.

I saw the owner of the company speak at OLA and was looking forward to reading this when it came out because he mentioned that it was approved by the Estate of LM Montgomery.

There are some things that I took "issue" with, but that has more to do with the format than the adaptation choices-- the main being how quickly some story lines sped through because they have a finite amount of space to fill the whole story. This is more of an issue with trying to condense a large book into a quick reading format.

The character depictions display emotion in an easy to digest way and the thought bubbles and speech are used in a concise, to the point manner, which will make comprehension of the story easy for the reader.

A great read if you want the general story and important characters in "Anne of Green Gables."

I will never say no to a new version of a well loved story like Anne of Green Gables. This was a really well done graphic novel/manga version. As with all adaptations, some details are glossed over or the timeline is shortened, but I did not feel like I missed any of my favorite parts. Plus the manga version designs Anne in such a cute spunky way. Loved it!

I am a big proponent of manga and comics as a gateway into reading. I adore the book Anne of Green Gables, and this is a beautiful manga adaption that would be enjoyable for younger readers to ease into more reading as well as fun for older adults to remember an old favorite. The art is gorgeous, and I love that it stays very true to all the dialogue from the book. A beautiful addition to both my Anne of Green Gables collection and my Manga Classics collection.

Anne of green gables is a classic tale. Over the years, it's gained popularity due to it's strong storyline, solid writing and it being so relatable. It's been adapted into a trillion shows, movies, plays, cartoons. And that is the reason i went in this with high hopes, and man, did it deliver. Anne of green gables being one of my favorite tales of all time, i loved this book This book to manga adaptation lost nothing in it's way. The content was there, it was accurate to the story, and it did the books justice.

The art style was perfect. The manga really gives of a perfect vibe of the story. The manga preserves the very dramatic effect of the book. The characters were so accurate to the description in the book, and their bonds were as beautiful as LM Montgomery made them in her books.

All in all, i loved the manga. If you're a fan of the book or the TV show 'Anne with an E' please read this, and even if you've never heard of either of them before and you're new to the reading community, I'm sure this book will have the same effect on you as the classic tale has.

This is exactly like I remember Anne of Green Gables but in manga form. Definitely a great style. Very whimsical and wide eyed. Anne is delightful just as she is in the original. A woe is me, drama filled teenage girl. Outspoken and fiery as ever. If only all classics could be retold so well in manga form I would read titles over and over again. #MangaClassicsAnneofGreenGables #NetGalley

What can I say? The Manga classics have been a great experience up until now, and Anne of Green Gables is one of my favourite books. This manga classic was new, and simultaneously felt like a warm blanket of familiarity. It brought the story across very well, not only because it is a very accurate adaptation, but also because it managed to capture the atmosphere of the book into the drawings. It certainly inspired me to go and read the series again.

One thing that is good to be aware of: while usually manga's start at what we westerlings see as the last page of the book and end at the front of the book, this one starts at the front. It had been too long since I read any Manga Classics adaptations, so I made the mistake of starting at the back xD It's not a big deal though.

I love Anne of Green Gables, it's something I was introduced to as a child and always has that nostalgic feeling to it. I really enjoyed this retelling of it as it condensed down a lot of the key scenes and themes of the original story. The art style perfectly captured Anne and the other characters, with everyone being unique and recognizable. Sometimes these manga re-imaginings don't lend themselves as well to classics, but this one fit perfectly.
