I thought this was a sweet retelling of Anne of Green Gables. The art is wonderful, and manages to convey the wonder of the story through art and dialog. I think this will introduce many new readers to this wonderful classic.

Here we are, back again with another Manga Classic! All throughout the end of last year and beginning of this year, I couldn’t help but devour every Manga Classic that NetGalley had to offer, and even discovered some new favorite classics! (The Count of Monte Cristo, anyone?)
Anne of Green Gables is one of those books I read a lot when I was younger. I found I could really connect with the character of Anne, especially since she loved to write, and all the other books I would read, none of the characters were into writing. Anne made me feel special and helped me embrace my overactive imagination.

Manga Classics once again does an excellent job adapting the book! I appreciate the level of research and care that they put into turning Anne’s story into a graphic novel. The illustrations of Anne perfectly captured her wild innocence and the imagination everyone knows her for. It was also amazing how they put so much research into designing the house so that they could get Green Gables just right.

I could go on and on all day about the small details, but I’ll just say that I really enjoyed it and was glad to see one of my favorite classics adapted!

Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are adult siblings who wanted to adopt an orphaned boy to help around their house. When Matthew goes to pick up the boy, he finds a girl named Anne instead. They aren’t sure if they want to keep her, but they soon realize they can’t send Anne away. Anne’s imagination keeps them on their toes, but they eventually become a loving family.

I haven’t read Anne of Green Gables since I was a child. It’s a fun Canadian classic. Reading this as an adult, I appreciated Anne’s carefree attitude. There were a few scenes which seem absurd for a children’s book today. One of Marilla’s friend told Anne she was ugly when she first met her. Then Anne had to apologize when she snapped at the woman. I can’t imagine an adult being that rude to a child when they first meet them. There was another scene where Anne accidentally gets her friend drunk when she comes over for tea. This was a funny misunderstanding, but not appropriate for a modern children’s story.

One interesting part of this book was that it had a foreword from the granddaughter of L.M. Montgomery. Her heirs authorized this adaptation of the story, which makes it extra special. I’m glad that they appreciated the way this book has been adapted into a new form.

This is a great Anne of Green Gables adaptation!

Take the current manga craze, mix it with a beloved classic, and you have a great way to introduce classics to a new generation.

I like this style of presentation—especially for readers who are visual or who like manga. While it is presented in an abridged format, there is enough there for the reader to get the story. Then, they could be introduced to the actual novel. There is even the possibility of using this in a classroom or homeschool setting as a way of introducing and comparing the different formats.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book provided by the publisher and Net Galley but the thoughts expressed are my own.

As an Anne Of Green Gables fan, I loved this book! The art was stunning, the storytelling was classic, and the characters have been recaptured beautifully in this retelling! I enjoyed how this author and artist was able to create Avonlea in this book. If you enjoyed the Netflix series or the book, I definitely recommend this comic to you. 5/5 stars from me!

This was a really good manga for someone like me that just watched the Netflix series but is really curious about the books this manga was a really good start. The artist is really talented and it made me curious to see the other manga classics just to see this new point of view. The manga is really fast and is not everything that has in the book and the artist tells you this so please don't go to read it with the expectation of the full book.

It doesn't matter what form Anne of Green Gables comes in--I'm going to want to read it. This form from Manga Classics is no exception. It's so fun to see some of my all-time favorite characters reimagined in this book. I enjoyed it, and I know my students will, too!

This book is definitely a creative was to introduce younger readers to the original story and keep themengaged, but it didn't change the fact that I personally don't like the original. That's the only reason I dnfed it. I would recommend it to those who want to know the Anne of Green Gables story, but don't want to spend time reading the original if they don't know if they like the story.

Having read the first book growing up and LOVING it, I have to say this adaptation held true.
I love the art style, the characters and just the fact that this is a wonderful way to tell this classic tale (while still drawing in a new audience.)
Definitely a job well done and I am looking forward to the opportunity to pick up more Manga Classics

This manga version of Anne of Green Gables is a delightful little read! I just finished reading the original Anne of Green Gables, which is why it took me so long to get to this book. I wanted to make sure I read. the original and could do a good comparison. And man, it was an accurate and lovely little resource to read the story in a different way. I really liked the illustrations and I felt like it worked really well with the material.

Anne and her kindred spirit are expressed with bright eyes and quirky traits. Matthew has one scene where his eyes are so big it's comical, but that was the only negative I could even think about this book. He looked kinda funny for a single frame.

Overall, this book is a great resource! If you loved Anne or if you want a different way to take this novel in, grab it! I think this manga classic is an excellent adaptation and I really loved jumping back in Avalon.

Four out of five stars.

Since the tv shows ended (sadly) I’ve been craving new Anne contents and I won’t be given what I want but this manga proves that it’s always a pleasure to read about Anne, Diana, Gilbert, the Cuthbert and everyone else. Even if it’s not new at all, just another adaptation.
Anne is such a peculiar character, always eager to tell a good story and entertain her relatives but she’s also full of life, funny and brave. And she was so cute and lovely here (as was Gilbert with his messy hair).
I haven’t read the book but I’ve seen Anne with an e and the movies and I honestly think that it was really similar and not much was missing.
In short, it is perfect for Anne of Green Gables fans and a good adaptation. The whole collection is actually worth it, it allows you to discover a lot of classics if you haven’t already (and if you’re too lazy to read the original book).

I love the Manga Classics series and this adaptation of Anne of Green Gables is wonderful. I have never read Montgomery's original series, but after this beautiful introduction to her world I need to correct that.

I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This e-book, graphic novel of the literary classic, Anne of Green Gables, is drawn in manga style (reading left to right, back to front.) The book presents the classic story of the orphaned Anne who is taken in by the Cuthbert siblings. Initially expecting to adopt a boy to work the farm, the Cuthberts are taken in by Anne's vivid imagination and decide to keep her on. Anne grows into a young adult on Prince Edward Island, Canada in the 1870's and her life in Avonlea is captured on the black and white, Japanese style, line drawn pages.
The manga version of this book is a great way to introduce younger readers to the classic novel. Drawings are crisp and artistic. The language is more contemporary so it is more suitable as well. The plot in the graphic novel follows the plot in the classic novel perfectly. Anne Shirley did a great job with the only authorized manga adaptation of this classic novel.

I've read the books series years ago, watched all the tv series on Anne of Green Gables. I think making classics into manga is genius because most kids would rather look at manga then read a book.

I love how the book was able to tell the whole story. I love it.

This takes a different take on one of my absolute favorite classic children’s novels and made me fall in love with the novel all over again. I find it to be beautifully drawn, tells the tale true to form, and keeps readers easily interested. Makes it brilliant that it’s also easy to read in one sitting. Anne I’m drawn form is fiery, passionate, a free spirit, and all around, an enjoyable character. Diana is beautifully drawn. Marilla and Matthew are true to form, even in their drawn incarnations. Gilbert is probably where I take the most criticism, in that I think his hair is a little bit off from the way it was originally written, but otherwise, he was well drawn and well written.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC for an honest review.

I have never read manga before and I think this was a great way to introduce me to the genre. Read a classic story that I am familiar with. I love how they took the story of the young red hair orphan girl Anne and created such a beautiful story in manga form. I love the art style for this and how the characters looked. I can not wait to read more Manga Classic.

Holiii

Another good representation of the book. Good visuals of what would have been described in the book. Great for those who do love the story.

Was all excited when I saw the cover and then ended up not enjoying the art on the inside. So many scary eyeballs! Story was great and was what I expected, but was sadly let down by the graphics.
