I really enjoyed this manga adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. It is based on several books from the series, rather than just the first one. I thought the story adaptation was done well, focussing on the relationship between Anne and Marilla, as well as several other key relationships (Diana, Matthew, Gilbert). I was disappointed that the layer cake incident didn’t make it, nor did walking the ridgepole, as those were some of my favourite moments from the book. However, you can’t fit everything from a book series into a single manga!

The artwork was lovely, and the format of manga brings an immediacy and clarity of emotion in the moment that is delightful. I laughed several times at Anne’s antics. I think that this adaptation of Anne of Green Gables will appeal to long time fans and new readers alike. I especially like the thought that it will bring new readers who perhaps only read manga and graphic novels. I also enjoyed the special features at the end.

If you’re looking for a delightful manga tale of a girl finding her place in the world, then I highly recommend this. I also recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed the Anne of Green Gables story in any of its previous formats.

I liked the story of Anne of Green Gables. However, the review copy was quite terrible. Multiple pages were misplaced throughout the story so it made the copy hard to read and comprehend. The final copy would definitely be easier to read than the copy that I was given to read and review.

I was initially hesitant to request [and then read] this for a couple of reasons; I am still pretty confused about the Manga world [I am an old white woman who never read comics or anything like that and am just now getting into graphic novels and the such], and as I love Anne of Green Gables, I was afraid that it was a rip off of that beloved world. I was so happy to find that the Ms. Chan had contacted the heirs of L.M. Montgomery and received their blessing and decided then that this would probably be really good and close to the original text. The confusion about Manga and how to read it [I had to finally make a note to remind me to start from the right and read left] still applies, BUT!!!! it didn't change how much I enjoyed this new way to read a beloved book. While not the complete text, Ms. Chan kept the heart of the book and I found it to be a delightful way to revisit old friends.

The illustrations were amazing - I never felt that anyone [with NO disrespect to Colleen Dewhurst, who played Marilla in the original movies and whom I loved every second she was on the screen] quite got Marilla correct; she is described in the book as tall and spare and this illustrator got her absolutely correct, in my opinion. Her imagining of Anne and Diana were also delightful and really made the book fun to read. The only one I felt wasn't exactly right was Matthew, but I am overly partial to Matthew and so I am not sure anyone would get what my head tells me he looks like! ;-)

A wonderful read and addition to the Anne of Green Gables world; I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of that world. I know I will be buying this for my young niece who LOVES Manga, to introduce her to the world of Anne of Green Gables [and then I will give her the book and let her fill in the blanks]. Absolutely delightful.

This book takes a very nice spin on the classic book of Anne of Green gables. the book is a maga that goes along with the story the pictures are very high quality and beautiful.

Oh, there’s the Lake of Shining Waters. If you look over there you’ll see the house Diana lives in. She’s a kindred spirit too. Just a little further and … there it is! Green Gables! You’re home.

I’ve loved Anne since the day we met. This is such a beautiful adaptation. Everything I love about Anne’s story was included here, including her friendship with Diana, her rivalry with Gilbert and witnessing Marilla and Anne’s relationship deepen over the years. I even experienced my usual overwhelming need to hug Matthew whenever I see him.

Yes, I did get a little bit teary during that scene. You know the one I’m talking about. I think I was too distracted by how cute everyone looked though, so I managed to avoid my customary full blown ugly cry.

The illustrations were so lovely! They did make it quite difficult to take Anne’s complaints about her looks seriously because she’s so darn adorable in manga but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Her doe eyes and that little tuft of hair that’s always sticking up are just so cute!

Whenever I encounter Anne Shirley my heart feels full. I’m always left with this warm and fuzzy notion that the world is inherently beautiful and that hope and love will prevail, and this manga version of Anne’s story was no different. It left me with a delicious contented feeling. It seemed especially fitting, albeit decidedly strange given that we’re living in 2020 here, that the last sentence was “All’s right with the world.”

This was a wonderful read. I loved Anne of Green Gables when I read it as a child and this is a beautiful edition that brings the characters to life. This stuck as close to the original as it could and did very well in drawing the personalities of the characters into the art styles. I absolutely loved this. Having read two previous Manga Classics adaptations, I still stand by this being a wonderful way of introducing the classics to a new group of young adults and children in the future.

Well, what can I say? I loved this adaptation of Manga Classics! 😍

The story, as well as other Manga Classics adaptations, is faithfully adapted. I like the way the characters and Green Gables are depicted. You can even find a plan of the house!

okay, now I get te fuss about the Netflix show, Anne with an E. Anne is an adorable, ambitious, orphan girl with the brightest eyes and the most wonderful imagination, who turns into a strong adult who's always looking for people around her, without forgetting to follow her dreams.

The whole thing was touching, and I found myself smiling through it and feeling my heart warm and fuzzy.

The story follows Mr. and Mrs. Cuthbert who decided to adopt a boy to help Mr. Cuthbert around his farm, but their surprise, the asylum sends a girl, Anne Shirly. She has an imagination bigger than the world and falls in love with the smallest simplest details.

The friendship between Diana and Anne is amazing! They had each other back, they were loving each other of nothing but the person they are. I had the series of books in mt TBR since I saw the trailer for the Netflix show, but now, I will definitely read the books!

This was the cutest way to read Anne of Green Gables. I did not read Anne of Green Gables until I was in my twenties. I think that the illustrations will make everyone even more excited and love the story. This is even a great way to begin reading Manga books if you have a child or student who wants to get into them.

I'm a huge fan of LM Montgomery's works and especial Anne of Green Gables. Happy to see it adapted into manga! I like the sketch of characters at the beginning so we know who the characters are in the strips. I found the manga story true to the novel storyline and enjoyed reading this manga! Would highly recommend to fellow Anne of Green Gables fan!

Oh, this was so good! When I finished, I had such a satisfied and nostalgic feeling! I had read Anne of Green Gables so many times that I've memorized it, especially specific scenes and it was great to read a manga adaptation.

The very best part was how accurate this was. It did skip some (tedious flowery but still interesting) spots that were in the book, but it stayed very very faithful to the other scenes included down to the very wording. I really loved seeing their interpretation of Gilbert and his angst with Anne. It was quality.

Almost everyone is drawn in a cute way. The only exception to this were some of the elderly that had a strange eye shape. They were trying for semi-realism but they got creepy. I loved seeing Anne and Diana in their cutesy anime girl art style! Gilbert's character design threw me off since I pictured him completely different but I got used to him fast.

I'd love if the same people did adaptations of books 2 and 3 too! It would be amazing to see Anne and Gilbert go to college.

Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables is an excellent manga adaptation of the original story that includes many of the scenes from the original. The artwork is beautiful and goes well with the story of 'Anne of Green Gables'. If someone is a fan of the original story and also enjoys reading manga this is definitely a nice book to go through.

I'll start by say the art is stunning! Almost too stunning. Anne is referred to as skinny, red haired, full of freckles and homely. I'm pretty sure the Anne on the cover is anything but homely... just saying.

This follows the original story almost spot on, even including original passages. It was neat to see Anne of Green Gables in this medium. While I enjoyed the story I thought some parts fell a little flat in the emotion side.

If you love manga, want to try something new or just want to look a gorgeous art, this may be for you.

I am always on the lookout for graphic novelizations of my favorite classics, so this immediately caught my eye! The illustrations are beautiful, and the dialogue of the book was faithfully captured here. Anne’s high and lows and her exuberance leaps off the page, and this will make a great into to the series for many young readers!

I really loved the art style the only thing I wished that was better is that I couldn't get my tablet to portray the manga in portrait mode instead of landscape mode. It would have made it easier to read.

I don't usually read manga, but this one caught my attention since it's about Anne, one of my favorite characters ever. It's the only authorized manga adaption by the Heirs of L.M. Montgomery, so I believe it's something special to all the fans.

Like I said, it's not really my style, so that's why I'm only giving it 3 stars.
But it's very well done and loyal to the original work.

This was a great take on a classic Canadian novel. The artwork captures Anne's personality wonderfully.
I do feel that for a Manga it was very long and perhaps should have been split into volumes.
Still a great Manga and I would love to have it in my library and personal collection.

This book was so cute! I absolutely loved the art style and attention to detail. Anne of Green Gables is such a heartwarming classic and is a must-read for anybody. I felt that the pacing of this book was just a little bit off for me, but overall it was a fantastic read.

What a beautiful representation of my favorite story. I will read any adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. The artwork in this manga is simply stunning. Anne is portrayed as an adorable little girl right from the beginning - however she may feel about herself! Diana Barry is beautiful and Marilla and Matthew are just how I picture them.

Most of my favorite scenes from the book are depicted in this manga. What I love most is the illustrations showing the world as Anne sees it, not just how it is... such is the way with The White Way or Delight and other important locations. This is a fun way to see how Anne sees.

Gilbert was a dreamboat little boy and I loved getting a few thought bubbles in his mind.

The only criticism I have is that after the important scene where Marilla cuts all of Anne's hair off when she accidentally dyes it green. Anne should have short(er) hair at this point but the illustrations go immediately back to long braids. A few months have past but not enough for her hair to grow back.

Beautiful manga and I cannot wait to purchase!

A young, imaginative girl in need of a home gets sent by mistake to a house who wouldn't dream of having a girl,but really needed a boy who could help around the farm.
A sense of curiosiry, Anne's liveliness and the pity they feel to let her go live with someome who won't treat her well after all she had gome through, make Marilla and Mathew keep Anne.
Anne wins over their hearts quickly by bringing so much love and happiness in their household. With childhood curiosities and grudges Anne gets through school and makes wonderful friendships.
Anne journeys to a new home where she finds herseld aminds all she ever dreamed of.


I absolutely loved this book. Anne made me laugh out loud. Her character is delightful and charming .
An adventure worth coming back to.
