I've never read the original book of Anne of Green Gables, but I have long been intrigued by it. It's very popular amongst my US friends, but for some reason had never appeared on my radar as a kid, and the intrigue didn't get strong enough to persuade me as an adult to read it. With that in mind, I can't speak to the strength of the adaptation.

I really enjoyed it! I'm not sure I was expecting to, but the layout and the dialogue of the Manga style makes it an easy and quick read. There were a few noticeable issues in the artwork, but these may have been due to it being a review copy. I suspect one would struggle to read it on a phone screen, I used an iPad.

I’d definitely recommend it if you like the original book or are trying to persuade a reluctant reader to read the original. I don’t think I’ll end up reading the original now, but I do at least understand my N American friends’ enthusiasm for it.

Thank you, NetGalley for a copy of this series!

I have been a fan of Anne of Green Gables since the Netflix adaptation of it. I own a copy of the classic but haven't gotten to it yet. I figured this would be a good introduction to it before I go back and read it. I was right this was a nice read that gives Anne another dimension to her. I think Manga Classics are doing a great job of giving their audience classics reimagined. If you like classics but don't want to read the original source, this volume and the others are for you!

I absolutely adored this adaptation. The artwork was stunning and I have recommended it countless times to fans of Anne new and old.

I've been looking for ways to read more classics and the Manga Classics give me that opportunity. I would have never read the book but I did love the manga. To me it's a story of coming of age, a romantic tale and an adventure. Anne's bubbly persona grows with her. She start's of as this dramatic and annoying orphan and grows in to a strong young woman with ambitions, willpower and a mind of her own. She is headstrong and keeps her wide variety of imagination throughout the whole story, She has a caring nature towards the people who took her in and her friends. It's a petty our store will not sell this book or any of the books out of the Manga Classics series.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of Anne of Green Gables in return for my honest opinion.

I loved this graphic novel. I will admit that I had never read this book so when I saw it was in a graphic novel I grabbed it as fast as I could.

I loved the drawings they were wonderfully done, I loved reading through the book and following along with the drawings as the story progressed.

I will admit at times I found Anne hard to take because she reminds me of that student in my class who has the best imagination but they are also the most tiring to be around. They just have so much energy and demand so much time and that’s what I was thinking about at the beginning of the book. But that is also a me problem and I know it is.

I will say some of the chapters were quite short and I felt like important information was missing but not enough to take away from the book as a whole.

It was a wonderfully fun read that brought me back to my childhood when are imaginations were running wild.

Let me start off by saying the art style was amazing even low resolution the drawing were beautiful. I read the novel Anne of Green gables as a child and this japanese comic adaptation was brilliant. It captures the essence of the story without bogging you down with details. It's a fun read and a wonderful idea, more classics should be done in comic form. I would definitely recommend reading this for a light hearted manga. If there was a version of the rest of the series I would totally read it.

Thanks to NetGalley for access to this volume! I really enjoyed this Manga retelling of Anne of Green Gables. It’s been a LONG time since I read the original, so I can’t speak to how aligned it is, but it seemed pretty aligned with the first movie! I was pleased to see that the characters weren’t modernized and stayed true to the time period. The illustrations were well done and clearly conveyed emotion and the plot. I liked how some of the dresses were modeled from the movie even though there was no attempt to make the characters look like their movie counterparts. The story flowed well though could be a bit abrupt or choppy at times, but overall, it was easily read, particularly if you are already familiar with the basic premise of the story.

The art is nice, but unfortunately everything is just too blurry to get through. So I will be DNFing. It's a shame because I love Anne of Green Gables.

I’ve loved this story since childhood. And the way it is done in the manga style is amazing. None of the story seems lost but the pictures add so much more to what is already there.

Anne of Green Gables was not my first manga classic and definitely will not be my last. For anyone wanting to read or reread a classic this is a very fun way to do it.

I loved this Manga adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Translating a book to Manga is great way to take a classic and introduce it to new audiences, I found it an enjoyable way to read a book I've wanted to read, but was worried might be dry. I can see a set of Manga Classics being a great addition to classrooms. The art was well done and expressive, I definitely want to read more Manga Classics.

I love Anne of Green Gables and any adaptation, and I love manga, so I would probably love this. Unfortunately, the file I can download from NetGalley is blurry :(

What a wonderful adaptation! Tragically delightful! I love the renewed focus on self-fulfillment, found family, and friendship, aka kindred spirits. Somehow the visual format added just an extra something special to an already classic (and for me nostalgic) tale. Profoundly scrumptious.

The storyline is typical of the classic, no surprises, which I loved because I read the classics with my mom as a child and it brings back fond memories. It is beautifully retro-fitted with manga artwork throughout. This would be great for anyone who doesn't love the classics or finds it difficult to understand because the pictures help you follow the storyline. I have a lot of students that LOVE manga and this is perfect to get them interested in what kids these days consider to be an otherwise typically boring topic!

**The only thing that could make this better is if the pictures were color, but I don't think that is typical of Manga... the artwork is just so beautiful that color would really take it to a whole other level**

Anne of Green Gables is the book that I remember getting me into reading as a kid. I loved it and went on to read the series. Later I watched the movies. I have recommended it to my daughter many times. I even watched the latest television adaptation on Netflix and couple of years ago. I don't think I'll ever not have a spot in my heart of this story. I've tried Manga Classics before and had a good experience so when I saw they had Anne of Green Gables, I had to read it. I think they did a wonderful job of turning this into a manga. They pretty much stuck with the storyline. It still made me emotional. The artwork really brought it life. I hope it opens this story up to a whole new group who wouldn't have read the story otherwise. I enjoyed the author's explanation of why certain areas were more prominent and what things meant to them personally. I also liked the artist sort of "walking through" the drawing of the characters. If you like Anne's books or movies, classics, comics or manga, you should definitely check out this book.

'Anne of green gables' is a classic story so I won't speak much on this because I'm sure most of us read the original during our school years or perhaps you saw one of the movies/series based on the show. Anne of green gables is about a young girl, Anne Shirley, who goes to live on the farm of Green Gables after being orphaned and adopted by her newfound family. The main themes of this book are overcoming challenges and accepting change. The moral of the story is that if you work hard you can overcome any obstacle in life. Throughout this book, Anne is constantly challenged both internally and externally by other characters in the book but ultimately she overcomes these challenges.

The granddaughter of the original author, Kate McDonald butler is included in the foreword. I think it's so lovely that an accessor of the original Author was involved in this recreation as it is a fully renewed illustrated edition for the modern reader.

The best part of this book for me was the adaptation details provided at the end by Crystal S. Chan. Not only does it go over how the book was adapted for the modern reader but also highlights the key points in the story like feminism and provides a brief explanation of how it was used throughout the story in an easy-to-digest manner.

There is something very appealing about how the old, now outdated language from the original novel has either been adapted to make it easier to follow or it has been left in place, but with the aid of the stunning manga artwork and the visuals that are contained within the scene, a modern reader can easily understand what is going on.

This book reads very fast pasted much like a classic manga where the story flows from one chapter to the next effortlessly and it keeps you on your toes the entire time- wanting to know what comes next!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read as it is a great classic that many of us will remember from our childhoods. Even more so, I recommend it, especially for those of you who have yet to discover Anne of Green Gables. It's a fabulous introduction to the series and a beautiful addition to any personal library!

I would also recommend this story to anyone who struggles to read classic literature but is interested in the stories. From an academic point of view, this read stays true to the original, has a breakdown of key points at the end, flows quickly to fit in around studies and most importantly is greatly enjoyable to read and view with stunning artwork. Overall I really enjoyed this modernised version.

5/5 Stars from me.

***A big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.***

I originally read this story as a young girl and was immediately in love with it. Now with it adapted into a manga I am reminded why this was such a great coming of age classic. Anne Shirley is an eleven-year-old orphan who has been passed around as a live-in nanny under horrible conditions. She comes to live at Green Gables by accident as they requested a boy to help the elderly brother and sister, but the siblings fall instantly in love with the girl and take her in as their own. Anne is willful, but kindhearted, she wants nothing more than to have a home in this world. I wish this adaptation did more delving into Gilbert and Anne's rocky relationship and subsequent reconciliation.

Enough about the story, the art in this manga is so cozy and perfectly fitting for the story. It is both adorable shojo-esque, while staying true to the early American pioneer vibes. The way the artist chose to draw Anne's regular expression versus her animated anger, sorrow, and scheming kept me wanting to turn the images into emojis and memes. This is a great cozy read for those manga lovers who want something longer, but lower stakes.

Thank You NetGalley for allowing me to review!

I have read multiple editions of the actual novel "Anne of Green Gables," and I've also watched many versions of the movie based on the novel, but this is my first time reading a graphic novel version of it, and I'm happy we have it. Not many kids in the elementary school I work at like to read classics as they say it's too long and quite dull. Now the classics are getting revamped into graphic novels. Many of my students are now intrigued and happy to start reading it. I would say that it's a pretty good adaptation and is quite accurate.

Seeing this book set in Manga form was a little strange, not going to lie. This is such a classic story that making it into a Manga is not necessary. Maybe it will appeal to a new younger audience but not us 30 somethings that grew up loving this story.

This was amazing! I think how classics were written makes it difficult for modern audiences to enjoy or want to read with so many other options. I personally had never read Anne of Green Gables before but was familiar with the story through other shows/movies. I absolutely adored reading the manga version. The artwork captured the heart of the story without losing the setting and time period.

They had updated the language to make it easier to read and more accessible. This will not be my last Manga classics that I read. I am excited to jump into other classics that I haven't read.

Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables is a fresh new way to read the classic. This is perfect for already Anne of Green Gables, or anyone who has been intimidated to read the original classic. The author did a wonderful job writing it and sticking true to the classic. The artist did an amazing job. They definitely studied how the characters would express their emotion on their face. The flow of the manga was great. This was a nice quick read for me. I really enjoyed reading this.
