This was amazing! I think how classics were written makes it difficult for modern audiences to enjoy or want to read with so many other options. I personally had never read Anne of Green Gables before but was familiar with the story through other shows/movies. I absolutely adored reading the manga version. The artwork captured the heart of the story without losing the setting and time period.

They had updated the language to make it easier to read and more accessible. This will not be my last Manga classics that I read. I am excited to jump into other classics that I haven't read.

Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables is a fresh new way to read the classic. This is perfect for already Anne of Green Gables, or anyone who has been intimidated to read the original classic. The author did a wonderful job writing it and sticking true to the classic. The artist did an amazing job. They definitely studied how the characters would express their emotion on their face. The flow of the manga was great. This was a nice quick read for me. I really enjoyed reading this.

I am so glad I discovered this book! I've never read the original novel, nor watched the Netflix series, but I've been wanting to learn more about this tale for a while. This manga was perfect for getting to know Anne's story, she is very likeable and I loved her character design. The story is moving and sweet at the same time, I really liked the drawings and the explanations of the choices that were made for this adaptation (at the end of the manga). I recommend it to all those who want to (re)discover this classic.

The Manga Classics version of Anne of Green Gables was so wonderfully executed. Many of the important events from the original work were kept in to honor this coming-of-age story. One of the strongest aspects was how well the different relationships Anne had were conveyed, from the found-family relationship with Marilla and Matthew, to her friendship with Diana and finally her rivalry turned potential romance with Gilbert. The art was beautiful and I loved the way the children aged to young adults so gradually. Such a pleasant way to experience this childhood classic.

I loved everything about this manga!! Anne is such a lovely character. Her relationship with everyone and development was enchanting to read ✨
First the characters. All of the characters of this manga was great to read about. What I loved was none of them were just good or bad. They were very realistically fleshed out characters. Anne was such an endearing girl. The way she saw the world was beautiful. Not to mention the way she approached everything. Loved her relationship with Marilla and Mathew. Her friendship with Diana was dreamlike🥺
Overall, it is an incredibly wholesome manga♥️
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the ebook in exchange for my honest review

Another well done manga version of a classic. I found that the artwork for this one was nice and the story moved well, respecting the original text without having a lot of gaps that needed to be filled in. The major relationships and moments that are in the movies/TV shows and book are all captured effectively, with some items edited out that didn't really need to be in the book to capture the story's flow. I liked how Anne was drawn and I respect that Gilbert was traditional manga boy, but I can't help wanting him to be a bit more handsome, a bit more mature looking than Anne.

I wouldn't say that these replace the books, but if you have read the book and want to experience the story in a new way, then definitely pick up this manga classic.

I never read the classic so I can't say if the adaptation is well done, but I enjoyed the story and it made me want to read the original, and I believe that would be one of the authors' goals. I also liked the artwork even though the manga style is not my favourite (that is something I also discovered reading this), but that could have something to do with the way the story is supposed to be read (I found it a little difficult). Besides that, I really liked how the relationship between Anne and her new parents was portrayed.

Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.

Anne of Green Gables holds a special place in my childhood heart. I was pleased to see that it had been adapted beautifully into manga. I’m hopeful that this new adaptation can be shared with even the most reluctant reader.

I love Anne of Green Gables, so I was always going to be equally predisposed to loving this, and to having expectations which were entirely too high. Somehow, both were true at the same time: I loved the story as I always do, I definitely appreciated the artwork, but altogether, I do think I preferred the book...

Anne of green gables is one of my favourite classic and I was excited to see how it would like in manga. This volume covers the whole first book and I think they did a really good job with it!

I love the way all the main characters were drawn: Matthew is soft, Marilla, Anne, Gil and Diana! They all fit really well with their characters!
I love the scene where Anne apologise to Mrs Lynde, the author represented the over the top aspect of it very well! All the changes in their eyes were hilarious, from glistening ones to black dots. And the “carrots” scene was perfect!

I recommend to anyone who is familiar or new to Anne and Avonlea!

As a great fan of Anne of Green Gables I had a lot of fun reading the book in a manga format. I think these particular editions are great in making classics more accessible for a lot of people, especially teens, and this book captured a lot of my favorite moments from the original work. Having read L. M. Montgomery's work I loved revisiting Avonlea and the characters that make the story so special, and I could also make parallels with the TV shows adaptations.
I enjoyed the pacing and the art style, so I definitely recommend it!

4.5
What a good adaptation of the original novel.
The illustrations and the drawing style fit the story so well, it captures the essence very well.
Also in regards to the script and the content of the manga, he knew perfectly which moments to choose to represent the story and he knew which moments to emphasize more and I am here to live for that.
When it comes to the characters, I love her, Anne is an incredible character, ahead of her time and with a unique personality; the Cuthbert brothers are a delightful duo to read, they are very contrasting but also complementary, and seeing their journey together with Anne, simply chef kiss. The other characters are a good complement to Anne and will help her grow.
The simple but effective plot, I adore it and perfectly encapsulates what it's like to grow up such an imaginative girl in those times.
Highly recommended, as if it is your first approach to the story, or if you want it to continue consuming it, as is my case.
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy.

What a beautiful adaptation! It was a joy to see one of my favorite books done in my favorite art style. Anne herself is so expressive and dreamy - to get to see those elements in detail was a joy.

This is an abridged version, so some parts were left out. Some friendships were not developed as fully - like with Mrs. Allen or Josephine Barry. Or the rivalry with Josie Pye.

One nit-picky point for me was after Anne dyed her hair - and subsequently had to cut it off - she was only briefly showed with short hair before going back to her long braids. Was it enough to ruin the story for me, no, but it did give me pause.

All in all, a beautiful abridgement of a classic book, with gorgeous art. It really makes the world of Green Gables come to life.

I highly recommend picking this up! 4 stars.

This adaption was fantastic in the choices that the author highlighted in this edition from the original text. The illustrations were clear and easy to follow even with it being black and white. (Other adaptions have come out in colour) the only picky thing is we don't see Anne's freckles but that is only a small thing. I love how much of the conversational text made it into this adaption and the focus of family is strong and true to the time period of the original text.

The secret gem is at the back of the book with the adaption author showing and explaining how the adaption to graphic novel went and how she went about abridging the story line. This will be useful information for those wish to adaption graphic novels and was like your own personal author visit.

I think that it's really awesome to take a classic and turn it into a manga. My biggest issue is that it's hard to read on a tablet/phone. Since they are read back to front, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to start the book. Also the page breaks are not very easy to see so sometimes you can not tell what page you are on.
The siblings who own green gable were planning on adopting a little boy, then end up with Anne. He antics have everyone in stitches and scratching their head. She never lets you forget it's Anne with an E
This takes a book for young kids and adds beautiful art work

What a fun way to read a classic!
I love Anne of Green Gables and read it in Manga form was so much fun! I loved the expressiveness, the beautiful art, and the great recapturing of a timeless classic. I didn't even know something like this existed and now I can't wait to find more!

If you are interested in an artistic take on a classic you love and enjoy reading Manga/comic-styled books - then this is absolutely right up your alley. I was able to get through this in a day - and while it is not as detailed and descriptive as the actual book, it is a refreshingly light way to enjoy this story.

I love this manga has is a great way to enjoy the classics. It's 319 pages and the episodes all well-balanced. As a manga reader, I love the design of the panels and the expressions of the characters reacting.

The original Anne of Green Gables is a book that I couldn't fully enjoy until I was an adult, but I absolutely loved it once I read it. In fact, it's one of my favorite books now, so of course I have high expectations of any adaptation. The Manga Classics version of Anne of Green Gables by Crystal S. Chan and Kuma Chan has met and exceeded my expectations!

Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables sticks fairly close to the original novel in terms of character development, location, and timeline. The illustrations do a fantastic job of capturing the characters' personalities and relationships and also stick with the original description of the characters' appearances. I felt the same connection with the characters that I felt when I enjoyed the original novel and it was fun seeing how the artist chose to portray certain memorable scenes...some were exactly how I imagined and some were a little different.

One amazing addition to the manga adaptation is the bonus content at the end of the book. There is additional information about the importance of the Green Gables house design as well as information about how the adaptation was created with emphasis on specific topics. There's also a sketchbook that includes character design sketches and cover design layouts.

I believe that making this classic book available in manga format will make it more accessible to readers that may be intimidated or put-off by the original novel. I highly recommend this book for libraries that serve middle school and high school students. I plan on adding it to my own school library and will make displays where I can feature this book alongside the novel series in order to encourage students to read both formats of the story.

We loved the original story of Anne of Green Gables (because who doesn’t, right?), but this is beyond amazing – the manga drawings are fun! The drawings here really take the story to the next level. The text captions are really well picked out, and it really feels like the story is good – unlike some graphic novel adaptations where it feels like the story has been made short, too simple, and bland. Beautiful, this is truly beautiful.

Anne is an orphan girl who has always wanted to find her forever home. When she finally thinks she’s found a place to belong, she instead finds out that the Cuthberts wanted a boy. But thanks to Anne’s spirit, imagination, and heart, the Cuthberts find themselves falling in love with this young red-headed girl.

This was a great adaptation of this story, which has always been one of my favorite books since I was little. It stayed true to the original story and feelings of the story and makes this tale accessible to a much wider range of people. I think it would be great for middle schools to have a set of these manga classics for younger readers to be introduced to these classic tales.

The manga style itself was cute and easy to read, making this a gem of a book. My thanks to NetGalley and Manga Classics for allowing me to read and review this work.
