I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity
A strange and kind of wacky take on the classic YA tropes. It was difficult to engage with the story as it was so unbelievable.
An OK read.

This book honestly isn't bad. I see where it's going with the storyline and plot, but it tries to pull off so many things that don't make sense. Like Rose and her father being a werewolf came literally out of nowhere. And especially with the whole Areon being a god and everything else just made 0 sense to me. I would give it a 2/5 because in general, it was a good book, but it just wasn't for me.

Rose has lost all her memories after a traumatic event. When they come back she has to deal with discovering she’s a werewolf, a crush on a God and a trip to the underworld.

Not my favourite book, I thought there was too much time spent on the before and not enough on the ending. It’s an odd one because the adventure reads as if for younger teens e.g, 10 or 11 but there’s swearing etc which suggests it’s aimed at an older audience. A fun read nonetheless.

This book was not quite what I expected. The path that the writer took was interesting and definitely not where I expected it to go. We start with Rose who lost her memories after what could only be some traumatic event. When the new guy shows up at school, her life starts to change. She is skeptical of him and his actions until he shows her he is not as uninterested as he appears. At some points you feel like the actions and reactions of the characters just don't seem to go with the story but by the end, you are thoroughly invested and need to know what happens.

Rose Knight isn't your typical 17 year old but she doesn't know that until she gets a visit from an old friend. A dead friend. In The Shadows was full of mystery, fantasy and the strength of humanity. Rose being a strong and resilient character that many young girls can relate to.

Rose Knight's family is breaking.

Her mother is dead, her father is wallowing with alcohol and her sister isn't coping well.

Rose has to step up for her sibling and still balance her high school grades and deal with the fact that she's missing a LOT of core memories.

But she's going to duck her head and deal with it. But just when she feels completely overwhelmed - she realizes that she has a whole past knocking on her metaphorical door.

She's a werewolf. And a mysterious person from her past is circling. And Hades decides to ruin her day.

Is she able to handle it all? Or will she collapse under the pressure?

I think this one had a good core concept.

I liked how grounded it was in reality (in the beginning) and I thought the introduction of the supernatural was definitely interesting.

Rose started off as a really good main character and while I feel like her development could have been a bit smoother, I did enjoy reading about her adventure.

I do think the plot ramped up pretty quickly and there was a lot going on with the story.

But other than that, it was a rather interesting book!

With thanks to Netgalley and Randee Lee Nelson for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review

I was given a free ARC by Netgalley. This is my honest review.

Definitely geared toward a YA audience. The main characters are in high school.

An average urban paranormal book where the mix of Gods and werewolves don't quite work.

I had an issue with a few plot points such as how the father turns from a srumbling alcoholic to clean and sober virtually overnight.

I didn't find this particularly engrossing. Unfortunately, it wasn't the book for me.

Rose is a teenage girl who is just like any other teenage girl. Rose and her best friend Andrew have been friends since they were kids and do almost everything together.
Unfortunately after her mother died and her brother ran away she lost her memory. She couldn’t remember her friends, or things she did as a child, she remembered nothing before 6 years ago. She’d tried everything to bring back her memories but after her therapist told her she wouldn’t get them back in the doctors office, she carried on living her life.

At school a new boy, Areon arrives and Andrew is given the task of showing him round. He’s grumpy and short with Rose and Andrew but things soon start to happen and bring the three of them closer.

This book was so good. I’m pretty sure it’s aimed at young adults and I really did enjoy it. There were a couple of twists and I found things happening really quickly that kept me turning the page and trying to read faster. I really look forward to seeing what will happen in book two as this book kept me gripped from the start.

I’d definitely recommend if you enjoy something fantastical with twists and turns.

I really like the beginning of this book, it was very intriguing and I couldn't stop reading, really waned to know more about the story and if Rose was going to get her memory back !!
Then, everything is back to place and I was very surprised with the way Rose didn't freak out or anything, it was just normal, no questions asking.
She totally accept who is Areon, without questionning anything like it was normal without any reaction !!
I admit that, ok, for her it was normal, because she had been a werewolf all of her life, but after 6 years without knowing her past and everything else, it was like "Ok, I'm a werewolf and that's it" !! I was waiting for more reactions !!
Let's not talk about her father, he was an alcoholic and wasn't there at all and all of sudden, he's there acting like a real adult for both her daughters. I had a really hard time about it.

This book has a great potential, but the reaction of the characters aren't the reaction we are waiting !! They kind of don't have any reaction, like Andrew, shen Rose told him what she is !!

Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of In The Shadows in exchange for an honest review.

While the combination of Gods and Werewolves is a unique take on the 'supernatural teen romance' sub-genre, In the Shadows is just too underdeveloped to rise above the sea of similar stories.

Rose, her family, and friends all either have exact 1 or no personality traits and once we get into the supernatural aspect, everything moves to quickly. Rose is remarkably okay with finding out she's a werewolf and recovering years worth of memories, Areon is way too forthcoming and casual about his whole "I'm not human" thing, and the story follows the same beats you see over and over again in the genre without ever expanding upon anything. It's almost as if this book relies on the reader knowing the stakes we're supposed to associate with Supernatural Teen romance so instead of building actual tension or character relationships, it simply pitches you a few moderation.
