This book really hit the solar plexus, and I think I had more emotions than I care to admit. I loved the book, and the characters are well developed, and wow, the emotional roller coaster is off the chain. However, I can't recommend this to my students because it is too advanced, but for my 17+ students, I will most definitely recommend it!

I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity
A sunny heroine with lots of new twists and turns in her life. The writing is OK but not very clear at times. This story is mainly character driven as Blue is is such a cheerful and lovable character.
A good read.

Thank you to Netgalley, publishers and author for providing an ARC.

This book was utterly beautiful! The tale featured attractive characters, a heartwrenching tale and some darker themes. The author uses words to project feelings across to her readers and I craved the good and the bad!

Blue Skies

Bluebell (I adore this name so much) is a happy, nature-loving and living girl.
She visits her never before seen father so now she needs to adapt to city life and public school. Joshua Hunt the mystery neighbour next door. He doesn’t reveal much in the beginning because he‘s keeping some secrets.
He is the kind of bad boy with the never-revealing and brooding attitude (You see, I‘m a sucker for a good bad boy).
The first half was lovely and cute especially because of Blue‘s sweet character. She helps the people around her and gives them so much with her happiness. Hunt feels more and more attracted to her. With their opposite vibes, Blue and Hunt attract each other like magnets.
My absolute, absolute favorite part in the whole story is the relationship between Blue and her Mom. It reminds me so much of the relationship between my own mom and me. How they treated each other and what they did together really hit home. She loved Blue endlessly and without a doubt.
Thats not too often seen in YA or NA books and I don‘t really get why.
At 50% the book got really heavy for me.
You could feel the shift and that something was different. Blue started to feel more from the things she experienced throughout the book and learnt new lessons.
She started facing problems she never needed to but to me, that made it all feel more real. She never lost her happiness nevertheless which I found impressing.
I admire Blue because she always sees the good even in bad situations and trys to get the best out of it.
Hunt’s developement was truly showing in the second half of the book. His feelings toward Blue helped him see the good im him and that he was good enough.
I liked his character developement the most. Joshua came from a bad family but never stoped and fought his way through.
He wants to be better in the future and does everything to make it possible. He does everything he can for his loved ones.

„Because when you love someone, it‘s not just you anymore. You do what‘s right for them, not you.“

At the 75 % marking I was basically sobbing. The author doesn‘t throw it in your face what the plot revolves about. It’s more a feeling at first.
I won‘t say what made me ugly-cry (I couldn‘t get out of my bathtub because I could not stop reading. My skin did this wrinkly thing when you’re too long in the water so that made me an ugly-crying-grandma lol) because that is a major spoiler for me and would destroy the whole feeling.
This book wrecked me so much.
I think thats the reason why I took so long to finish it (maybe also my little reading slump lol but mostly it made me feel so many emotions and I knew I would cry).
The end was perfect for me. Maybe not exactly what you would expect but that made it much more meaningful and significant.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone who likes a good mother-daughter relationship, wants the grumpy and sunshine trope, but also wants to have a good cry (my eyes may or may not burn from all the crying. Whops).
This book also contains topics about depression and dementia.

cRaZy WeiRd! This was super different! I am so mixed about this book. I don't know whether I love it or hate it. I don't think I'll read another book like this though.

I’m really enjoying this authors stories and this is another excellent read by her.

Blue is a lovely main female character. I just adored her. She is what people would call a free spirit. Growing up with her mum she never met her dad..until now. Her complete opposite is is Joshua Hunt. These two are so lovely together.

This is a beautiful well written story that gave me goosebumps. I loved it.

Blue is a beautiful character, a girl of forests and crystals, a dream that grew free and now awakens wrapped in the norms of society. Blue knew of energies, stars, rivers, and barefoot races across the field; now she has to learn to pay attention in class, instead of getting lost in the scenery beyond her window.
The world is not tolerant of those who are different, mainly in adolescence, but this girl teaches us to not allow bullying to bias our life, to grow without giving up our essence.

But, if Blue is the light, then Hunter has had a life of shadows. A dark prince, a broken hero, a lost child ... but one who fights with all his might to reinvent himself; while he learns to trust, to reveal to this peculiar girl, one by one, his scars...

A book about identity, growth, mental health, family and love, as full of tenderness as it is of strength, eroticism and spirituality, of happy moments and heartbreaking turns. A book for many re-readings.

This book is full of finding your place in the world, experiencing new and strange emotions and accepting that life has good and bad times.

Loved this book!

The blurb is quite catching and it has some strong written at the beginning and the end, but the middle feels sloppy. Blue was an interesting character and a root for her but Joshua (Hunter) wasn't one I'll especially root for.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness my emotions area all over the place right now and thats definitely a good thing! This story was beautifully written .
The main character is a bit of a wild child, free spirit, raised by her mom (a hippie) and home schooled her whole life. Reading auras and meditating. are part of her everyday life as well as running naked through the woods. Adjusting to societal norms are hard for her and moving in to live with her father and attend an actual highschool is not what she wants at all.

I couldnt really relate to the character and had a hard time getting through this book,

This was a wonderfully written mature YA book. It has a coming of age story with the sweetness and sensual allure of young first love.

The heroine Blue is a bit of a free spirit. She was raised by her hippie mom and home schooled all her life. Smudging and reading auras are part of her norm as well as running naked through the forest and meditating. When she moves to live with her father and has to go to high school, she has to adjust to the restrictions of social norms including learning to focus in a classroom setting. While I found it difficult to connect with this character, I absolutely loved and respected the way she remained true to herself. Despite teasing and bullying, Blue always carried a positive energy and she was always confident in how she dressed, spoke and acted.

When she meets Hunt, she is not deterred by the tough guy exterior he shows the world. She feels connected to his spirit and knows he has a good heart despite what he wants others to think. Hunt also feels connected to Blue but his natural reaction is to push her away because of his own feelings of inadequacy. He thinks she deserves better than him because of terrible life circumstances he's had to face. I struggled at times with feeling emotionally connected to this couple. I really wanted to love them but I knew something was not quite right when I felt indifferent about whether they got their HEA or not. I will say I did love the steamy scenes. I loved that Blue seemed to be the instigator of their intimate moments and the reluctance Hunt always had despite his strong attraction to her was a real turn on.

I am not entirely sure how I feel about this one, to be honest. I feel that it had a strong beginning, and a strong ending, but lost itself somewhere in the middle.

At first, I really liked Blue. She is a free spirit, and isn't shaken by much, especially having been raised without all the burdens of society. I liked that that wasn't disparaged by the author. She evolved to become this giant ball of negativity though, and it was blamed on her being "sheltered," which undid a lot of the earlier parts!

Joshua Hunt was a harder character to care about. Initially, I was intrigued by him and excited to watch his walls break down as he learned to trust Blue. His relationship with his dad and Henry felt complex and as though they would really be delved into.

Instead, we mostly just have instalust and instalove, with very little actual bonding happening! Pages and pages of Blue and Joshua just having sex or waiting until they could, with him constantly dodging her questions. They didn't even share simple things like favorite foods, or light-hearted happy memories. Which made any chemistry they had feel shallow.

The climax of this felt very sudden and messy, as well. All of a sudden there is a tragedy, and poetry written by a teenage girl is apparently obviously "dark" and evidence of something (as someone who has written poetry for years, I am at a loss as to why Blue reacted as she did to it...). Then, just a total shutdown that I guess is supposed to make sense?

The last 10% dragged quite a bit, while also skipping ahead quickly. It left me with some whiplash! Also, a million questions, as I am still bothered that so little was actually shared about these characters! What happened during the space?? How did they "grow" so fast? Why not grow TOGETHER?!

I think this had a ton of potential, dealing with some very serious topics in ways that felt very natural, but perhaps took on too much. I enjoyed reading most of it, and look forward to more from this author.

This book made me feel a lot while also leaving me kind of empty. I loved the characters. I wasn't as keen on the amount of sex and thought it may have been a bit overboard, however there was a warning for that in the blurb so I can't really complain. The topic of mental health in writing is something that has been overlooked for years and is finally coming to the forefront, and as someone who struggles with anxiety and depression I appreciate that. I wanted to feel more from this, though. For such a big, difficult topic, it was handled well but didn't pull me as hard as I wanted it to. I wanted more background on Blue and her relationship with her mother. I wanted more information on the time between graduation and the craft fair at the end. Maybe there will be a spinoff.

Overall, a solid 3.5 stars. I wanted a bit more, but I did enjoy the read. Will possibly do a reread in the future to delve a little deeper.

This is an emotional story about two different people finding each other.

Bluebell is a happy person with a ready smile and a positive attitude, and Joshua is this serious boy who is quite and determined and has no time for girls with sunny smiles.

Their relationship progresses despite the odds, but Joshua is keeping things from Blue, why is he not letting her in his life.
And why Blue’s parents are keeping things from her as well.

I enjoyed reading this book and I really liked Blue’s attitude, I liked how the relationship progressed until you got invested in it. And you kind of see everybody’s story but wait for it to come together.

But then suddenly everybody’s secrets and problems are revealed in just one day, and it’s just too much. Everything was happening at the same time that there is no way any of it was going to be solved.
Also there are so many coincidences, and I know it’s kind of explained near the end, but still.

I liked the two main characters but also the secondary characters, they got their own characteristics and personalities. But I also felt how young they are and how much growing up they needed to do.
Also I felt that Blue’s lifestyle is not really her choice but her mom’s and that she needed to find herself.
And I really didn’t like Blue’s mom at all.
I saw it coming, but when it happened I felt so disappointed.

I also liked that the ending was trying to be different.

I would certainly look into the author’s other books

“Maybe that’s me romanticizing the idea of getting old, but I think it’s sad how easy it is to fast-forward through life, each day blending into the next. So often we don’t see — let alone feel — the magic in the moments we’re making until we’re old enough to pause and view them as memories.”
This book was absolutely lovely. It captured my attention from the very start. I felt warm and gooey as I read it.
Blue is a 17 year old girl raised off the grid, for the most part, in a hippie sort of fashion. Homeschooled and sheltered from the negative aspects and feelings that come with a “normal” Childhood nowadays. She has been given the opportunity to spend time with her dad who she was raised to believe left her and her mom before she was even born. It’s there she meets Joshua Hunt, and embarks on her first romantic relationship while also discovering life isn’t all she was brought up to believe.

This was just beautiful and so refreshing! Blue was naive, but so intelligent and open minded. Her character was super sweet and charming. I loved her. She was so confident and I loved that she never pretended to be innocent. Now Hunt, he was the most surprising. He was very insecure, but never forced that feeling onto Blue. He was so intense but never controlling. I dont know what it is about women nowadays loving controlling men and thinking they’re hot. Hunt, Hunt was hella hot in all his self consciousness. He never found scapegoats for the way he was and I loved his development as he discovers he’s his own man away from his genetics. Such an awesome character!

I did find this book get a little slow around the 30/40% mark but it quickly picked up again and blew me away. The mysteries surrounding Blue and Hunt individually we’re really intriguing and I found myself surprised that I never guess what some of the big reveals were. Not what I was expecting. Such a great job.
I also found myself enjoying Kimmies unique character.
A solid 4.5 ⭐️ for me!

Growing up with just her mother, Blue Everest had everything she ever needed - except for one thing, her Dad. She never knew him as she grew up homeschooled on a commune with her mother and her best friend Benji who is your typical stoner hippie as we read a few interactions between Benji and Blue. That is until one day, she finds her mother is off on one of her long journeys and now she is to live with her newfound Dad and his family in a small wealthy suburb. Everything about this is a new adjustment for Blue as she is used to homeschooling and the woods and no timetables, here she has the suburbs, high school, and structure to navigate around. There is also the boy who lives inside the Everest's Poolhouse Joshua Hunt who has captured Blue's attention. She sees the sadness in him and wants to help him. Josh aka Hunt hasn't had the easiest of lives as his mother is sick and his Dad is off gambling away whatever he can get his hands on. Hunt has always worried he will turn out just like his Dad and hasn't dated anyone long-term rather than just a fling with no strings attached. However, Blue makes his dream that he can settle down and be in a real relationship and with her. Can Blue help Hunt with his baggage? What will happen though when Blue's life gets a bit too hard and complicated even for the happy-go-lucky free spirit she is? Find out in Blue Skies, a new angsty YA/NA read by TL Martin.

I was lucky to receive an ARC of this book from Net Galley. But good news, it's already out! This is a beautiful YA/Adult romance. I fell in love with Blue and Joshua. You will too. Highly recommend!

One of the reasons I picked up a T L Martin book is because the name sounded quite familiar. Then I did a bit of digging and realized that I have read another book by her, and that book happened to be as emotionally charged as Blue Skies.

I loved Blue, she was “whimsical” and always in the present in a happy hour lucky kinda way. Joshua was realistic and also happened to be in the present, but in a more somber way. And as different as they from each other, they needed each other to make themselves complete.

I loved side characters, I liked Rebecca, she was considerate and she was sensitive. I liked Tim cuz he was making an effort and was there when needed.

I loved the emotional, angsty ride, I love how well the words were used to sketch a full, heartfelt story, it’s a testament to Martin’s ability to write emotions so well that they feel real.

I’d highly recommend this book to readers who like to go on the emotional journey a good book promises to provide and ends on a high.

I was given an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Happy reading.
