What a pleasant little book for the beginner mini-meditator! Super cute illustrations complement the text. I love how non-human animals are highlighted and shown as friends in the book. This book is a great way to introduce a child to mediation in a fun, attention grabbing way. You and the mini-meditator can use this as a guide to practice the steps as you read along.

Thank you to Carolyn Kanjuro, Shambhala Publications, Inc., and #NetGallery for an ARC of #SitWithMe in return for an honest review. Review will be posted on NetGallery and Goodreads (goodreads.com/radicalrachelreads).

This is a good basic instruction for meditation, although I'm not sure that a book is the very best medium for such instruction. The illustrations are charming and the instructions are well done. A good basic introduction to meditation for anyone.

This is a relaxing and fun book for kids to learn easy steps for relaxation and meditation in just seven steps. Sit With Me: Meditation for Kids in Seven Easy Steps is written by Carolyn Kanjuro and beautifully illustrated by Nan Lawson. I immediately envision this as a daily book for use to teach and practice meditation and relaxation skills for children, and adults as well if they wish.
Sit With Me, in the beginning shows the various ways children (and adults) can relax, just like the animals do. It is things such as sitting like a duck, lounging like a cat, etc. It is a great way to show that animals take time out of the day for themselves and relax as well for various reasons. You can also find a frog, bat, moose, bear, owl, and hare. These pages are short, with quite simple statements about how each animal relaxes.
From there children are taught how to sit like a buddha through the seven key points from your head to toe on how to relax your body. Each of the seven steps is discussed individually, with more detail than how the beginning of the book is. Position of hand, head and mouth positions are taught using cute phrases that make it easy for children to understand and do themselves. Relaxation is encouraged through the buddha pose and to help one process feelings.
I found this book as a nice introduction to another culture practice that one may not be familiar with. I am not a fan of taking from other cultures, unless taught by someone from that culture. The author was married to Kanjuro Shibata XX, who was a 20th generation master of the Way of the Bow and third generation bowmaker to the Emperor of Japan. So, she does have extensive knowledge of Buddhist practices and rituals. I was not familiar with meditation poses so I found the book interesting in introducing something to my children that was new for all of us. The techniques are simple and do allow you to relax and let go.
Sit With Me: Meditation for Kids in Seven Easy Steps is not only an introduction to a culture that children may not be familiar with, but also shows them some calming and relaxation techniques that could be used in everyday ways. The illustrations are pretty with diverse characters and the animals even joining in on the poses.
Overall, I give the book four stars due to its simplicity in teaching the meditation techniques, easy to understand words and illustrations.
This book is set to publish December 1, 2020.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Sit With Me is a great way to introduce your little one to the art of meditation. It’s a great book to play along with. First, it introduces reader to some of the different ways to sit (encourage your kiddo to imitate these positions for a cool storytime activity), which leads into how to sit “like a Buddha” for meditation. There are plenty of great tips and tricks for doing meditation for peak effectiveness as well as a recap at the end, which is helpful, because it can be a lot to take in for kids, but the encouragement to try it out as your read along should help a lot. I’ve always learned by doing and activities help things to stick better.

Kids can practice mindfulness and meditation as well as adults, and there are many physical and mental benefits. The art is super cute, and diagrams and illustrations accompanying the instructions are super helpful.

This one is out December 1st and would be a great addition to holiday gifts as well as a stocking stuffer.

Using animals and easy words this book illustrates (literally) how to sit to meditate like Buddah. I think it is a good way to teach children this principle of meditation if that is what you are interested in doing.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Cute picture book about friends and sitting quietly. A good calm down before bed read.

Sit With Me is a wonderful picture book showcasing steps on how to meditate.

This is a valuable tool that I could have used back in the day. I wish as a kid people explained meditation and relaxation to me! I used to love head down times or Graveyard where we got to relax and listen to the sounds of what's around us. This is a simple book explaining how to sit and clear your mind. It's basic, simplistic and makes it easy.

The illustrations are also cartoony and incredible. I feel that they match the story really well and make it more inviting.

Four out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Shambhala Publications for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

This is a sweet little rhyming picture book where a grasshopper teaches children how to properly sit to meditate. Friendly animals join in. It covers the 7 aspects of posture and teaches them to let their thoughts just come and go. It's very well done for an intro for kids into how to sit and be when taking up meditation.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

sit with me is a book that teaches one to sit in the correct position for meditation. I liked the illustrations as well and the flow of the story. I even practiced sitting in the position myself as I was reading the book

Sit With Me // by Carolyn Kanjuro // illustrated by Nan Lawson

Sit With Me is a cute little book about a grasshopper that teaches young children how to properly sit during meditation and how to clear their minds.

After reading another children's book about meditation recently, I was excited to see this pop up also. I believe that it's important to teach children how to recognize and control their emotions, and meditation is a great tool on that journey. This book explains the proper position and posture in easily understood steps and explains why it will help you meditate correctly. The illustrations are fun and cute, but not overwhelmingly bright in a way that would distract from the message. It is a great intro but more resources will be necessary for the actual meditating part itself.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
