This book was totally different than any other pirate novel I’ve ever read. I have to say, I was a bit thrown off when werewolves, vampires, and magic got introduced, but I really loved their inclusion in the story.

Blurb
When Molly flees onto a pirate ship ran by Thomas Crowe, she has no idea what she’s getting into. Soon, she stumbles into a war between werewolves and vampires, becoming a key player in what’s to come.

Really, the only reason for my rating is that I never attached to the characters or the story. I was interested, but i was never on the edge of my seat, yearning for more. Part of this may have been the writing style, I did find it to be slightly stilted at times, but I feel like most people would love this book.

I actually really enjoyed the romance in this book. Molly and Tom were cute together, and I loved how Molly stayed independent even after she found a partner. They both did their fair share of saving each other, which definitely kept this entertaining.

The world building in this was also pretty strong. Somehow, in 300 pages, Douglas was able to create an entire universe, with feuding clans and cults. The little excerpts in between parts were super enjoyable to read, and really helped flesh out the story. Without ever including info dumps, the world building felt natural.

I was pretty disappointed by the lack of pirates in this. I mean sure, Tom is a pirate, but we don’t get to see much of him pirating. I wanted swashbuckling fights, raids, and bloodthirstiness. Considering that “pirate” is in this books title, I really wanted more pirates.

That being said, if you’re someone who loves werewolves, vampires, and pirates, this is the book for you! With a loveable romance, and a unique plot, this book will keep you engaged until the very last page.

I love pirate books so I knew I had to try this one. It was very enjoyable and it is one I would read again. The main characters were so fun and interesting. The plot was full of suspense and action which is something I really love in a book.
