For someone who is a huge kdrama fan… this is a kdrama in a book and I’m here for it. I’m obsessed. I loved the relationship between Yuna and Soohyuk and I just want more please.

Thank you to the publisher for my eARC copy of this book. Unfortunately I didn’t love this book and therefore didn’t finish, I just didn’t connect with this one. Not for me, sorry.

The translation of this book was not done well which made reading extremely tedious and confusing. I would love to read it if it was done in a better way.

This would have been a DNF had I not felt obligated to get this book cleared off my NetGalley shelf.
I thought I was going to get a delightful contemporary rom com based on the colorful color and fun summary. I did not enjoy the structure of the book. Honestly, the story felt pointless because from the beginning we know how the main conflict gets resolved, so the incentive to stick around is low.
Sometimes they were cute and sometimes Yuna and Soohyuk had some weird interactions that were not great for setting the stage of a romance. Ugh. So frustrating. So dissapointing .

This romance was super wholesome and a lot of cute moments with everything one can expect. with soohyuk being a doctor moving back to korea for his parents and yuna being a cook whose past trauma with men impacts her ability to be able to interact with them. premise interesting enough, some interactions were off-putting but its probably due to some of the writing just getting lost in translation not conveying its original meaning. had a lot of predictable k-drama tropes along with the slowburn in a good way and both had strong character development!

I really disliked Just the Two of Us. I picked it up, because the cover tricked me into thinking this would be a cute contemporary romance between two Koreans, one who's adopted and the other who also suffers from trauma, but still cute but also maybe angsty??

However what I got was first of all a prologue full of trauma dumping and a lot of harmful stereotypes about adoption and trauma, that really could've been written into the story or just cut out of it completely. Since it never comes back in any good way. And yes, the harmful stereotypes about people who're adopted and suffer from ptsd never really get debunked, it's more so used as an explanation as to why these people haven't found love yet. As someone who's adopted and also suffers from ptsd that pissed me off severely. Especially since this is a ROMANCE book and also the romance most of the time just takes a backseat to just everyday life in the hospital or like other subplots from different characters.
The book is also first told from Soohyuk and Yuna's point of view mainly, but halfway through it just all of a sudden has other pov's.

Second of all the romance is non-existent. The first time they meet it's supposed to be the stereotypical attracted to you at first sight, however Soohyuk kind of breaks into Yuna's delivery service store, so she, especially with her suffering from ptsd, is obviously scared. However still is gushing over this man's looks, like okay and he also is somehow really thinking about how pretty she is, when he can tell that she's terrified of him.
A lot of alarm bells going off and red flags just everywhere, cause this wasn't supposed to be cute, but still it went from a terrifying situation to but this person is kinda cute tho. Like I know that wattpad and recently tiktok does like to buy into the whole it's scary but also horny, but I don't like it at all. So, no thank you. Besides that there were no moments between these two were anything romantic. happened, but I guess maybe in book two it happens. I just won't read it and so I won't know.

I found it rather difficult to get into this book unfortunately. I didn't connect to or enjoy many of the characters, and I felt it was a somewhat poorly written book. Might work better as a KDrama.

This was okay, sort of cute rom-com. But i felt that we got to know Yuna alot more than Soohyuk. Though, i`m not even sure it was much character development, well for Soohyuk - since i felt he wasn`t there much in the story, at first he was, but i was hella confused who Matt was and it all felt very random and wierd. But Yuna was cute and i might read the next one.

This is one book that I DNF'ed. I couldn't get into either the stories or characters and just wasn't compelled.

sadly, before i could download this title, netgalley took it off their catalog. that means i can’t review this one. HOWEVER, i will be checking in with my library to see if i can get a copy and review it that way

The synopsis was good but when I started reading I couldn’t connect with the characters.

I don't know of this book was translated horribly or written horribly, but I was just sick reading it.

From page 1, it made very little sense and I had only questions.

There wasn't a single sentence in this book I liked and I want my time back.

A fun little rom-com story though it just felt like something was missing. I think the main characters' personalities missed that bit of funk that makes them more relatable. Overall though, a cute easy read!

This is a difficult book to review. I’m not even sure how to explain what was difficult because I’m not sure I can articulate to my own mind what I found difficult. When I found out that the book was translated there was definitely that little bit that I had to set aside in my mind. But then again, I didn’t particularly have an issue with the writing in itself. It was translated well enough and yes, there may be lots lost in translation but I think for the most part, the translation was comfortable enough.

The largest staggering spots for me with the book was perhaps the style, mostly because I wasn’t used to it in books. Usually books are written in first person, second, or third or alternate between characters in any one of these three styles. However, in Just the Two of Us, the narration was as it would be on television. Within a scene, many people appear on screen taking turns expressing their feelings/thoughts. That’s kind of how it is in JtToU; meaning within a paragraph, the POVs jumps among the characters interacting on page. But I find it hard to blame the writing for this because if this is a writing style that’s normal for the original language that the book was written in, then I can’t judge it for that. So I can only say, this style was personally very disorienting for me because I wasn’t used to it and hindered with my progress.

I loved the details. It truly was like watching a Korean Drama show. There was slow but steady progress with the characters and there were many things happening around both the protagonists and many other characters who are a part of the book in the story. The characters were true to their personalities steadily throughout. Soohyuk was difficult in the beginning and difficult at times even towards the end. What was redeemable about him was how we come to understand how his personality was forged and how he slowly breaks out of the shell. Yuna was a sweet heroine, brave and gentle. Like with Soohyuk, Yuna too slowly reveals herself and finds her own as the book progresses.

A big benefit for the book was that this isn’t a standalone which means the author took their time to let the characters find themselves slowly and just at the cusp of their understanding oneself and one another, the setting for book two was created.

I’m hovering on a slightly more neutral rating, because I struggled as much as I liked the book. 2.5-3 stars.

I really liked this one and I already can’t wait for book 2. I loved the characters and the story line and can’t wait to see where the next book goes

This was a slowwwwww burn...a little too slow for my liking, unfortunately, though I feel like some readers will enjoy that quality of the book. The plot feels like a soap opera - not in a bad way! It's very dramatic and the plot does pull you along, but it didn't really land right for me.

Soohyuk is a socially awkward pediatric surgeon, grouchy to all but his young patients. He decides to move to Korea for two years to track down his birth parents who abandoned him. After he arrives he realizes the spicy food makes him sick, but after smelling the most delicious food outside a shop that always seems to be closed, he can't resist his curiosity. Yuna, after suffering a childhood trauma, is afraid of men, so when she sees Soohyuk hovering outside her window, she's terrified. But after realizing that he's only there for her boxed lunches, she agrees to deliver her food to him daily at the hospital. As time goes on, she sees the kind heart behind his gruff exterior.
I like the story of these two, damaged by such traumatic pasts, learning to trust and love each other. But the story just dragged out for me with no real spark.

I DNF this novel because the translation was so rough. I couldn't get into the writing. It felt halting and awkward. The narrative perspective switch from the male protagonist to his mother threw me and I felt quite confused and not engaged in the first three chapters.

I would like to thank POPPYPUB and NetGalley for an eARC. This was a cute book. The characters Soohyuk & Yuna are adorable. I did have some difficulty with some of the words and how it flowed, but overall it was a good book. It did leave you hanging for book 2. I'm giving this book a 2 out of 5 stars, I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a slow burn romance K-Drama. It had a lot of potential to be great but the translation fell short. It changed the reading experience.
