This is an awesome middle grade novel that can serve as an entry point into sci-fi for the reluctant reader. Gotta love any book where the main character is a shapeshifting blob. Despite the (and probably due to) the out of this world premise, this novel takes on big issues like growing up and self-acceptance. (Also snatching.) If your kid loves Steven Universe, they'll go nuts for this.

I cannot wait until this book is released so that I can purchase it, add it to our science fiction section, and start recommending it to those students who are craving middle grade sci-fi just like this one. The message about being weird is one I love oh-so much. Kids need to know that it is not only okay to be weird, but it is amazing and lovable to be uniquely you. The author’s note and the book itself express this beautifully! Alongside that wonderful message, this story has intrigue and excitement. It has action, adventure, shape shifting, alien goo, Imblobsters and more. This book will be talked about and well loved.

I really enjoyed this story! It genuinely had me laughing out loud multiple times. I wasn’t expecting that! I loved reading how humans were affected by the blob and the funny stuff they would say. I totally recommend this book!

Kids will love this when they find out Jake landed as goo from another planet and can change his shape. For now, he’s normal and lives with his parents and has friends. Things happen though that cause him to change his shape and he wants to know why. His new friend says she will help him figure it out. Then sinkholes keep happening and they wonder if it’s all connected.
