This is a Christmas story, rather than just a story set at Christmas as a large number are.

Matty Korza is an elderly lady that lives on her home, now rundown by herself. She is a recluse. The view of the cemetery is a comfort to her, as her family have all passed on.

She assumes the man who comes to her each morning to tend the property, but otherwise, she is alone in the world.

The children that play outside frighten her; they tease Matty.

One day a young child Aubrey injures herself as she tries to run with the other children after teasing Matty once again. Although afraid, Matty helps her, tends to her injury, and allows Aubrey to call her mother to collect her.

So grateful are they for her help they revisit the next day and invite her to Christmas Eve Dinner with their family & friends, but that’s not where the story ends.

It was everything you want from a short Christmas story, generosity, warmth, kindness to strangers and a great twist.

This was a lovely and uplifting story.

I would like to thank #TheGhostofChristmastoCome #NetGalley for the opportunity of reading this advanced copy in exchange for my own honest review. This book is due for release on November 20, 2020.

The Ghost of Christmas to Come is an endearing novella about an elderly woman named Matty. Matty has experienced devastating loss in her lifetime, and the uncertainty of this life causes her to become a recluse. When an injured girl appears at her doorstep, Matty assists Aubrey in dressing her wounds and calling her parents to retrieve her. Aubrey’s parents are so grateful that they invite Matty over for Christmas Eve dinner. Although they think they are just providing Matty dinner, they end up doing more for her than Matty could have imagined. Although this is a sweet Christmas tale, there is just the right amount of spookiness to keep you reading!

A good but short tale about family, love and loss as we follow along with the author on this story about an old lady who lives alone in her house on the edge of a cemetery. Plagued by loud children that sledge near by, a little girl falls down and hurts herself and is alone when her friends flee the scene, it's up to Matty to help and she does. It's after this that we learn she is actually a spirit.

This book is a standalone book but it's still enjoyable, I've never read anything by this author before but will be now as I liked the writing.

Many thanks to netgalley, author and publishers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review - all opinions are my own.

This is my first opportunity to read D.P. Conway's writing, and I was quickly pulled into the story of Matty, an elderly woman living alone in a disheveled house near Cemetary Hill. This short story really impacted me emotionally as my 90-year-old father lives alone and I'd hate for him to be as lonely as Matty is. Her simple act of kindness - far outside her confort zone - puts in motion a life-changing chain of events. I especially loved that this story was inspired by a discovery "accidentally" made in the author's life.

In Massachusetts lives an old woman near a hillside cemetery. She is asked each morning by a man if she is ready to go and she always says no. When it snows, she yells at the kids sledding down the hill to leave as someone might get hurt. The kids run off while calling her names. One day as the kids were running away, one little girl fell. She doesnt get up. Will the old woman help the little girl? What will the little girl do?

This is a story that reminded me of the love of a life with a family in their home. Due to that love, there is a reluctance to leave. It’s a story that questions why someone is reluctant to leave there cherished home. It is full of emotion including love, loss and hope. I remembered how I felt when the government bought the house I grew up in. My parents had to find a new home to live in. For me, it was never the same. I always felt like a visitor in my parents new home. It’s a must read for remembering the love of a home.

An old woman who lives alone learns a valuable lesson at Christmas in DP Conway's short story 'The Ghost of Christmas to Come'. This is a tiny little tale - you can read the whole thing in under an hour, a ghost story that has zero scares but enough feel-good fuzzies to warm your heart and make you smile.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"A beautiful story of love, loss and things to be grateful for this Christmas."

Author D.P Conway has penned down another beautiful story that reminds us to be grateful for the things we have in our lives. The Ghost of Christmas to Come is a story of Matty, an old woman who lives alone in a house by a large hill and reminisces over the memories of her family until the day she meets an unexpected visitor. Not just an unexpected visitor, but the story also has an unexpected twist in the plot which makes it a little different from the Christmas Ghost stories we have read. The story has the elements of general fiction with a saudade tone which will strike a chord with the reader and make them feel grateful this holiday season.

A short and sweet read for this holiday season. Merry Christmas!!

A magical Christmas story in the spirit of Dickens finding redemption at this special time of year.

‘Matty’ is a frail old lady living alone in a rundown house which has a perfect view of the cemetery she finds comfort in, regarding from her rocking chair.
Most mornings a man pops by to check on her, she assumes do odd jobs like clear her path of snow.

The author implies all is not as it seems but there is nothing sinister to be felt. Indeed she is more scared of the children she chastises for sledging near her property. Things change for her when a young girl slips and stumbles in her haste to get away. Left by her friends, long since fled, the only person around to help is Matty herself.

The measure of Christmas and her own memories are tied up in this potential act of kindness.

The writing is beautifully paced and the story progresses with a even spread of clues that all is not fully as it seems. Yet it is written in such a way the reader cannot speculate; I for one wouldn’t want to this is the author’s story, let him tell it.
Indeed I was caught up in it; not just the sentiment that comes where people give and consider others at Christmas but the depth of story. It is really a wonderful tribute to a woman’s struggle to overcome the loss of her husband and family, yet carry on even though broken. It also demonstrates we should never view the elderly as empty vessels or without memories. Often their life holds sadness and regrets we cannot imagine in our rapid, interconnected worlds.

The skill of the writing is that it is so simple; one wonders why we are not all published authors. Then the story twists and turns; and completes a satisfying bow and you feel this guy is perhaps quite good. But with practice I can replicate this type of narrative, then the writer explains how the idea for the story came about and you see the creativity in process and you marvel at how so much joy and hope can be drawn from a short work of fiction.

Ghost stories and the Christmas season seem to go together like crackers and party hats. I loved this story and feel a warm glow in its aftermath and I haven’t touched the Sherry - yet!

The Ghost of Christmas to Come is the third installment of D. P. Conway's Mysterious Short Stories; but it can be read as a standalone.

Matty Korza has been a widow for a number of years and with each passing year, she becomes more of a recluse spending most of her time staring at the cemetery at the top of the hill.

With each passing day, Matty is visited by a man who cleans her sidewalk and wakes her up in the morning. Until one day, Matty helps an injured little girl. Then everything changes.

The Ghost of Christmas to Come is an unusual story; and at 38 pages it is a very quick and touching read. This is the first book that I've read from the author and I found it to be an enjoyable story. If you like Highway to Heaven, you'll like the writings of D. P. Conway. Three stars. I liked it.

I received a digital copy of the book from Books Go Social through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
