Love by Night is a poetry collection about love. Meeting someone you like, starting a relationship, passion, knowing you met your soulmate.

I liked reading this collection, but I have to say I was also a bit bored by it. The collection feels repetitive. The poems are dreamy and they illustrate a perfect relationship. Unfortunately, it just didn't really work for me.

This collection of poems tells a story. The subject is the evolution of a relationship with all of the inherent vulnerability, revelation, hope, fear, acceptance and more that come to light. The poems are from the perspectives of two people and reflect their growing connection to each other. This title will perhaps make readers think back to when a relationship began or wish for the start of one. It is a tale well told.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

1.5 stars. does this type of poetry have a name? a subgenre?? if so, can all poetry like this be labeled with that name so that i know to avoid it??? i'm talking about this minimalist, overly generic, rupi kaur type poetry with some simple line/abstract art to distract from the absolute lack of substance in the actual poems. there was no depth in this. none. NONE. absolute nothing at all. kiddie pools have more depth than this. smut on tumblr has more depth than this. the mug that i drank my coffee out of this morning has more depth than this. it's just...... it's so easy to read, to the point where it's fucking frustrating to read. it requires absolutely zero brain cells to decipher. not a single one. now don't get me wrong, it's not that these were 'bad' per se, these were sweet love poems that i could see as fragments from love letters. they read like anniversary instagram posts. it's cute. it's romantic. but it's completely shallow. surface level. all you have to do is look at it for more than 3 seconds to see the bottom. is this the depth of love?? is this what love creates?? i wouldn't know. but if love spurs you to make poetry like this then maybe i don't want it after all. the 'art' or designs in this are pretty, i won't lie. i enjoyed how it was cut up into sections based on phases of the moon. the stars and night imagery was pretty and romantic. but that's all it was. pretty. had no depth. there were some poems that i did like, that had a bit more depth and actually immersed me in the romance of it all, but those poems were fewww and far between. this was nearly 200 pages, mind you. 200 PAGES. A POETRY COLLECTION. 200 PAGES of "I've never been more afraid/ of anything/ than I am/ now/ of ever losing you". am i being too harsh? pessimistic?? I've never read poetry about just romance and maybe this is what it entails. but either way, i did not like this. no. not at all. if you like rupi kaur, or amanda lovelace, or other poets like that, then i'm sure you'll absolutely love this. but, as you can probably tell, i'm not one of those people.

Received an advance copy from Netgalley.

This was written beautifully as a conversation between two people. While I did feel some endings were very repititious this whole read was enjoyable.

Talks of the moon, love, not being enough to conversations regarding the other side, being more than enough and how love isn't necessarily saying the right thing. Sometimes love is just sitting in the dark with someone so they aren't alone.

"Your hand is the safest place I've ever known"

I smiled dozens of times and cried a few while reading this collection of beautiful poetry. This collection is a conversation between a man and a woman about their love story, from anxiousness of new love to the familiarity of being with your soulmate and best friend. It is also a journey of self love for both people, finding their other soulmate within themselves and learning to love themselves, imperfections and all, through the perspective of their true love. Williams compares this love to the seasons, to the sun, to the moon, to the stars, to the sea, to the tides. And not because it is mundane, but because it is inevitable and unshaken.

The story these poems told was relatable with just a touch of whimsy. The journey of self-love was just a beautiful as the love story, where both the man and the woman found a sense of belonging with their partner and also with themselves. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection and look forward to picking up a physical copy.

I'm a little sad I didn't love this work of poetry as much as I thought I would. It was still a solid piece of work, and of course poetry is subjective to the person who wrote it so there's always that to keep in mind. Some things I enjoyed about this work was the simplicity and comfort some of the poems brought me. I felt like some of the things written came straight out of my dreams, as in all the things I wish to do and experience with my future partner. Even more beautiful than the poems though, I thought was the art work. It was gorgeous, mysterious, romantic, and very atmospheric (though I didn't entirely feel some poems connected with the illustrations). I think what made me realize this work wasn't for me was the repetitive to some of the poems as well as what I personally felt was a lack of connection and depth. Some of the poems felt a little too generic that it left me in the end with the feeling that I would easily forget about these poems. As with all poetry, there were a select few poems I really really loved and would frame in my room if I could, and others that I just did not like. If you're a fan of contemporary poetry, you should definitely try and see if this one's up your ally!

This book of poetry reminds me of what it was like falling in love with my husband and also what it’s like being in love with him now. It is absolutely gorgeous and I will definitely be looking out for more poetry from this author. This was one of my favorite books I read in 2020 and I will be adding this book to my collection of physical copies.

Such a beautiful and deep poetry book about the night! I can't express how much I loved it and how much it inspired me! Thank you for the chance of reading it, NetGalley!

I was given an ARC through NetGalley.

I enjoyed this book! I was in the mood for some poetry and I loved the romantic aspect of this book. The poems were easy to read and understand. There were some I loved and then there were some I feel like didn’t grab any emotion from me.

I do think it’s an overall enjoyable read, just not as in depth as I would’ve liked for a poetry book.

This was quick read for me and I’m excited to see what other books the other will release!

This is a romantic tale of two lovers. They talk to each other about their love and how it evolves through the ages. I would recommend this to teenagers who experience their first love or to anyone who wants to remember how being in love feels. The illustrations were beautiful.

This book has a beautiful design. A lot of pages contain simple art. I liked some of the poems, but unfortunately, I didn't see anything special in most of them. The poetry is interesting and not bad altogether. But maybe not a wow for me. I missed more of the night theme in these poems.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this! All opinions are my own.

I found a few of these poems to have some depth, but overall I found many of them to be quite surface level, without much of the deeper inner emotion that goes along with some of the situations being written about. I wanted a bit more from this unfortunately. However, I believe readers of modern poetry who enjoy poets like Atticus will enjoy this one.

Advance Review Copy generously provided through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Aesthetically the book is so beautiful! I loved the illustrations. It doesn't go into too much depth. It is easy to read. I liked how the book was split into sections according to the phase of the moon. Objectively it is a very nice romantic reading, but I had some reservations...

I did enjoy some of the poems but most of them just didn't impress me very much. I wish some parts of some poems were connected to other poems. The biggest issue with this book for me personally is that the writing style didn't touch me and I didn't feel connected to the poems.

For me, this was pleasant reading with beautiful illustrations but nothing more. I was missing something.

I'll be waiting for you there

This is so romantic and aesthetically pleasing to read. Every page is so gorgeous with illustrations and I just loved everything about it. I also liked the idea and concept a lot. The last poem in this book is so hard-hitting, it stirred emotions in me.

This is a lovely little collection. At times just a bit too sentimental and saccharine for my tastes, but with a collection about love maybe that's to be expected. Poetry is a difficult genre to review or evaluate, but I found a few poems that struck me that I want to revisit later, and that's always a good indicator to me of the value of the work. I appreciate how the poems move from the first stages of early love to the passion of something new to the comfort and stability of an established relationship. The pages are also well-designed and aesthetically pleasing.

These poems are sweet and sad and beautiful. Told in what I believe to be dual POV from two halves of a couple, these poems give an incredibly intimate and beautiful look into how a relationship begins and evolves.

"The sun slipped away beneath the horizon
slivers of light faded
we walked the length of the beach
and lay there together in the dark
to watch the waves reaching toward us
and I realised I felt more bare
and vulnerable than I ever had before

and yet, I felt safer, too,
in the dark beneath the moon
with the rest of the world at our feet"

Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel for providing me with a temporary e-arc.

Love by Night is an artistic poetry collection, compiled by the famed Instagram poetry account. Divided into 5 sections and each a phase of the moon starting from new moon to full moon, this cosy and tender poetry collection explores a heartwarming romance that you can read snuggled up in your bed, with some music that evokes a deep yearning for love, in the twilight.
Written from two perspectives, this poetry collection has a dreamy romanticism attached to it. I haven't been in a proper relationship (except when I was daydreaming about them) to relate to anything the poems were going on about and this just made me feel super single. But not in a way that makes me feel lonely. Instead, it was in a way that made me dream of such love. Such a relationship. Something so tender and idyllic.

It is an easy, simple collection to read through and a fluid magical one at that, something I would recommend to the newbies in the genre searching for reads to experience poetry at its magnificence. And also, something that is not too complicated for them to comprehend through. With illustrations that will melt your heart away, this is a perfect bed-time read.

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing for the DRC!

This book was honestly a great surprise for me. Much better than I expected.
It's such a beautiful collection of love poems! Feels good reading about these people. It makes you want a love like theirs. I can't even select a few favorite quotes to share, because then I'd be quoting the whole book.

Absolutely love it!

Was swept away from the beginning of the pages and really made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. It's a friendly reminder of the way one feels in the states of love and romance

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for making this Arc available.

This was a beautiful collection of poetry. Alot of these poems hit close to home and the way they made me feel was touching. It was like seeing how you feel about your special someone wrote down on paper.

If you want to read about people falling in love, missing your special someone, wishing you were in love and relationships, then I would recommend reading this!
